I have the Rolling Stone hot list issue from spring of 1993. He learned in June that he was sick. So when talking here he didn't technically know he had the cancer. Sorry its the revisionist history geek part of me coming out. Plus I read Agent Of Evolution, his bio.

You can hear he gets uncomfortable when the interviewer says stuff like: "you're gonna be married in two years, I'm sure of it"
