  • You have to remember, the point is to make it low cost and rugged for conditions that something good wouldn't be taken to. They need to be mass produced so that they can be distributed as largely as possible. Also, if you're a kid in Africa where you probably haven't even herd of a iPad before, are you really going to care?

  • great job its solar powered

  • patent infringement!

  • Lawsuits, apple multi touch, who the hell are the people behind such crap

  • Half the video is all about looks, fail. It's all about the os and software. The worst for kids

  • It's so gay

  • Now! Crap! Kids don't want this shit!

  • That woman is an impatient bitch...

  • Can't you afford a table guys

  • How about a foot crank, then you can crank while you use the tablet and it is easier than the hand crank.

  • stupid reviewer...let the man finish what he was trying to say.

  • Looks like a pretty durable tablet for people in developing countries. I like the hardware, and charging crank for this Tablet. It would be cool if the solar panel, and hand crank was built-in to the side and back of the tablet, so they are less likely to get lost. But, I guest making them separate means you can use one crank and lid with multiple tablets.

  • Joanna (the reviewer) doesn't even look at the guy most of the time while he is speaking...

  • Joanna be more respectful.

  • Nice job Joanna!

  • So you can use this in Africa... nice.

  • crank it stern

  • @TobMonster2

You're right, and it may just be a different business strategy. Maybe the market for these devices is the type of country which dictates a "tablet for the people", and OLPC delivers this kind of low-cost device while executing a great PR campaign.

Though, I really think this could lead to much of the world having access to internet for the first time. That's profitable enough for me.

  • She was not trying to snatch the tablet from him. She was tilting it forward as to allow the camera a glare-free view of the screen. She was in no way rude, just not a great product demo.

By the way, this product is meant for developing countries, and I think they've done an excellent job on executing their goal. They could do better, but who else is trying to expand this technology to such unprofitable markets?

  • @Korebyn

Developing countries are a profitable market

  • thumbs down, joanna, let the man finish what he was trying to say!

  • When you think about it, I really love The Verge and the podcasts, but Josh is sometimes a bit rude with people too. Why is that ?

  • she was doing her best to pretend to give a shit about that "tablet?" whatever it was it belongs at Rite-Aid or something

  • Looks like I'm not the only person to spot how rude this woman was. Awful. Kudos for him carrying on trying to explain the product though.

  • So rude! Fire her!

  • Wow. I don't think she should be allowed to be in another video. She was being incredibly rude.

  • The first 2 minutes looks like they're silently fighting over who should hold it.

  • if im stuck on an isolated island, that thing will be super handy

  • My gosh that lady is rude, and horrible people skills.

  • y so many dislikes? do u guys not like the video or the tablet? Coz i think the verge is doing a fantastic job making all these great videos.

  • @oscarhalder Its the reviewer, shes a bitch.

  • LOOK AT HER TRYING TO SCROLL HAHA

  • Cmon faster faster!

  • Yeah it's obvious Joanna isn't a very good people person. She rarely looked at his face and interrupted him too much.

    Next time Josh?

  • @LOLDSFAN the whole team is at CES.

  • So arrogant. Let the guy finish what he has to say. That's called respect.

Also, this is designed for children living in poor regions. Do you know what this can possibly mean? If you did, you would be treating it with much more interest.

  • If you see a cursor on a tablet... You failed!

  • Awesome stuff...

  • Yeah sure the device seem to have its faults. Kt's probably beta-alpha at this stage anyway. I still think a well thought out tablet for children in developing nations is better than on tablet at all.

  • Why did he not wanna fully let go of the device?...

  • joanna is hot.

  • Where are the influx of whiners coming from? Joanna is doing a fine job.

  • This lady is a nightmare

  • This lady is a nightmare

  • I like the design very much. This design + decent hardware + windows 8 or android = awesome.

  • why are these people so obsesses with power recharging options?

  • @alaandawod it's made for use in developing countries where regular sources of power aren't always available.

  • The werst reviewer ever. Fire her...

  • Is it lewd to admit that Joanna makes me Stern?

  • I have so much respect for this guy. I am amazed he didn't punch her in the face.

  • For all you out there who "aren't impressed" by the tablet as a product; OLPC is a non-profit that develops and provides computing devices for **children in developing countries**. They aren't here to impress your average consumer. Yes, clearly their software needs work. But, the hardware is very promising.

  • Interviewer has aspergers:

    LET ME CRANK IT

    LET ME TOUCH THE CRANK

    I WANT THE CRANK

    REWORWEROWEROWEROWEROWEROWERO

  • @limpviscid hahahahahahaha well said

  • Joanna, I'll share some of my Xanax with you if you'll promise to let people finish talking and make eye contact with them once every 30 minutes.

  • they stole the XO name from SRAM :o

  • Why's she so serious and aggressive thru out the video? It looks as if she's doing a big favor to that guy. Pathetic reviewer. Is there anything that's stopping you guys from recording more than 5 mins of video? Why this hurry? It's not a sin if the first look lasts for more than 5 mins if it's informative.

  • Yo Joanna, theres no need to be so dam aggressive

  • OLPC has discontinued their "give one, get one" program. Boo!

  • omg, she is so agressive and unpolite, if i was the guy, i would take the crank and throw it into her face and below.

  • She seemed really nervous lol but i'd penetrate.

  • I'd like to learn more about XO 3.0 but this video wasn't much fun to watch and barely had any information in it.

  • I'd like to request a video of Joanna cranking that handle for six minutes. Thanks.

  • Joanna, you are lovely, but please let the man finish what he is saying. Stop interrupting him.

  • tablets looks heavy

needs at least 2 people minimum holding it at all times

  • Let the man talk, Damn!

  • ...just .... don't ... drop ... it!

  • She was really pushy!

  • I love Joanna's face when she said "thank you so much", she is not impressed at all, nor am I, that's a lame tablet with a linux distro which is not optimized at all for tablet, I wonder why they didn't go for Android, do they want their own app market?

  • terrible reviewer.... she wont even let him finish what the man is trying to say.

  • @mattjhjmatt The verge all have trouble letting people finish their sentences

  • @mattjhjmatt she is definitely being rude.

  • Is that guy really short, or is Joanna just really tall?

  • Yeah, Joanna keeps cutting him off too quickly. Ask a question then let him talk.

  • 2012 tablet shift.

  • 1:43 Let the man finish what he was trying to say.

i don't like the reviewer on this one, i feel as if am missing some details.

  • @dekoomers It's kind of obvious he was saying that the ARM processor is less power hungry so the hand crank is actually somewhat useful. Joanna is quite expert at doing these and it's great for a "first look".

  • the title is wrong.. it's OLPC, not OPLC. one laptop per child.

  • @PincusDylan fixed! Thanks!

  • It has a Pixel Qi screen, runs Android and charges with solar power?

    I NEED IT NOW!

  • i feel that they both having issues with each other

  • He definitely had a wank thinking about her when he got home

  • I want! :)

  • very cool

  • Cool device, but awkward presentation.

  • OPLC CTO - "We go places where there are no walls"

    Bill O'Reilly - "You can't explain that!"

  • 1 hour for 6 minutes of cranking? That seems pretty impressive actually.

  • @hongaaronc Yes it is, very impressive.
