Thank you so much! Unfortunately I didn't have a piano for a while after I made this video and I forgot how to play most of the song. I don't really know what any of the notes are and I just played on muscle memory, so it's been tough trying to remember how it goes. Worse, I made up a few parts because I couldn't read the music right so there's no way to really tell what I did there... I'll let you know if I can figure it out but thank you
@Ilovenailsxxxnaomi You will never get a tutorial for this song. He only does the second movement, so I can't say for sure how long that would take alone, but the whole song (on piano, not organ) took me about a year to perfect.
Thank you! I actually found the sheet music in my college's library in the music section and copied the pages. I had the song on my ipod also, but I'm pretty sure they were different transcriptions. That's why a few bits from my version don't match up with official versions you'll find, because I just made them up. It took days just to write down the letter under each note in the sheet music and it took years to match my hands to what I saw. Frustrating, but worth it :)
Man,you've got hands of iron!!!great potential.just work a little bit more on softness and dynamics...yes,you,ve missed some notes, but who cares..generaly,you have "piece in your hands"...just little bit more relax and softness, and don't rush ...keep going ...iit's har to believe that you learned this masterpiece "by ear" ! CONGRATULATIONS
I know you don't adhere to the sheet but can I just say, this has got to be one of my favourite recordings on youtube. I mean its incredible. I'm currently working on it and I must admit, I'll be looking at your expressive technique more every day :P oh and I do love 3:32 and the rubbing of the hands hahaha take care x
Thank you for the compliment! Good luck learning this piece; I know if I could do it, it's certainly doable for someone who knows what they're doing :P
Once you learn it, you should post the finished product
@jvance2230 no no its one thing playing for myself, and quite another playing for youtube! I only wanted to learn it so i can creep out my sister on halloween :P
Much Props for being able to play this with a combination of ears and basic musical knowlege, this is a piece i will attempt. It's good to know there are 'untrained' musicians out there confident enough to learn pieces like this and to put them up on youtube...
The best transcription for me is Tausig version, Busoni's version is more "organistic" the piano to have sound like organ, other versions exists but Tausig version is the more virtuosi and majestuosity, because combine the baroque mode of playing and the Lizst mode, because Tausig was a Liszt pupil, for me this piece are in the list of the more difficult pieces for piano and the most beautiful, really, this piece marked my life at the first time that i heared
I dont believe that you dont read sheetmusic, because you have good technic, crossing hands, finger independence, octaves, dinamic movement of the hands (Sandor) good digitation. The aspects that you have to better is: chords, skips, you study in a conservatory before? Sorry for my english I speak spanish and a little english, I from Central America. Congratulations
unfortunately i cant do a tutorial because I really have no clue what notes i'm playing but i do know that some of them are wrong and the timing is off. i learned this by listening to my ipod shuffle and trying to match what i heard to what i could decipher from the sheet music (the extent of my knowledge is literally just f-a-c-e and every good boy does fine). hundreds of hours and lots of frustration but to play it is heaven. it was worth it.
@jvance2230 Wow. I have the EXACT same problem with deciphering the notes. And I even took lessons for freakin' 5 or 6 years, like, 30 years ago. My friend, what we have is called 'being unable to sightread'. An unfortunate "affliction"; but on the other hand, playing by ear is a wonderful & rewarding thing. I am watching your video because I'm having trouble with the fingering in a couple of parts, for crying out loud, & the way you're doing it is easier. TY for posting this, and nice job!
The Fantaisie Impromptu is my favorite song, along with Bach's Toccata and Fugue. I love Chopin's music and unfortunately I've learned snippets of many of his etudes but never a full song :). I did try the Fantaisie Impromptu once, but after a few hours I learned like six notes and gave up. Such a beautiful song though. Can you play it?
Wow, do you play this by ear. I know that if i knew how to read music, I would be able to do the really complicated parts of this amazing piece. I am in love with Bach music
Some parts you seem to struggle with speed and sounds bad. The bad notes aren't as bad. You should lay off the sustain pedal. Some parts sound a lot better with it, but you lose those parts since you use it too much.
step away from the piano... PERIOD! and go learn how to read sheet music correctly, than try again, than once you learn the actual piece, improv on it, youll do better.
I love thi. I want to learn it so badly and play it for my talent show XD blow peoples minds LOL on the organ it sounds like the Entrance to Hell lmao NICLEY PLAYED!

well i can read notes but not music if that makes sense.. most of the time i can figure out which note has to be played but i dont always know which type of note it is and what timing it carries.. that's why a few parts of my transcription are a little bit different (improvised) from the traditional transcriptions.. glad it's not too obvious though

I found it as notes and then i made it with a music notation program

good job, if you can play this without reading notes it means u have a good musical ear.
I have a few tips: try to not use the pedal to much and use a liddle more dynamic.
Try not to play verry low with left hand and verry low with right hand 4:15- 4:30, btw i think youre piano is a liddle false :)
