This song has so many great qualities, but the lyrics are what capture me the most. Ben Gibbard touches a lot on the subject of isolation, and i can appreciate that. "I know there's a big world out there, like the one that I saw on the screen in my living room late last night, it was almost too bright to see." So sad but soooo good.

@blackmoon4441 It's about drug/alcohol addiction- the metaphors are all there if you pay attention to them. The drugs make life a prison; the "guards at the on ramps" he speaks of can symbolize friends or enablers that keep the drugs/alcohol in his life. Then most of the other imagery- the tv screen, the lack of a party, the drinking by candlelight each night further represent an inability to escape addiction.
