I saw them on June 10th In San Diego. It completely exceeded my expectations. To bad they werent British. If not they were be considered one of classic Modern Rock / Alternative bands like The Smiths, Cure, EATB, etc.
As far as recent LP's you really can't go wrong. I likethe more trippy and heavy ones like FY and 98's Hologram Of Bhall. The other albums seem to be more song's that are in a Pink Floyd vein., Uninvited Like the Clouds and After Everything Now This.
Love this band..one of the greatest around. Seen them live alot of times in the early eighties back in melbourne, australia. Have all their albums and cd's. I also met these guys but i particularly liked Marty and Richard Ploog(ex- drummer) they were so wonderful to talk to so interesting. Eventhough i now live in greece have photos and posters of these guys all over my room how about a few gigs in Greece.
I saw The church in 1987 in London and seen them up into the 90's.. I had the wonderful experience of meeting them and spending time with these charming men..it was a great experience one which I do hope to repeat. Thanx for the music over the years guys.. never stop...I'm still collecting the albums xxx Marianne
great gig but brighton 2 daYS EARLIER WAS BETTER AS THEY DID ALMOST WITH YOU. GOT A FEW SHORT FILMS FROM THAT GIG WHICH I WILL AD WHN NOW HOW TO . ONLY JUST SIGNED UP TO YOU TUBE. LETS HOPE FOR A NEW ALBUM SOON. i think they have done enough touring for now- 3 tours in 12 months. we could all download one of the hits one week and get them in the charts
I was there too, been seeing them for years and it's the greatest music crime in history that they (and the Go-Betweens)haven't had greater commercial success.
Do The Church do a lot of songs from Starfish? That is one of my fav albums of all time and I would love to see a gig where they did a ton of songs from that album.
A crime that this band isn't as big as U2 - they've been around as long and are the better band...they just never wanted to be what they could have been...
Hell, now that I think about it, the same could be said for Peter Koppes. It's just that he doesn't have Marty's balls-to-the-wall, over-the-top fuck-it-all stage presence, and thank God for Peter's subtle good-taste, because it would probably be overkill. They are all Rock Gods, and I love them.
Toally agree with you. During their early years it was PK who did most of the solo and exquisite/elaborate guitar riffs and MWP took care of jingle-jangle parts.
Ahhhhh soooo cooool! Saw them in Detroit last year where they just rocked the Magic Bag's roof off! This brings back wonderful memories of that evening, and, wow -- so cool to hear Hotel Womb live! One of my favorite songs of theirs ever.
Thanks for the video.Steve said it was their best show of the European Tour.I wish I had been there. And Hotel Womb is a surreal song, really fantastic song. The Church RULE!!!
Absolutely incredible music for 30 years. Love them. Should be known as one of the top 5 bands ever !

They only did two UK dates that summer, Brighton and London. We travelled down from Manchester for both....they were SO great.
First saw them on an Aussie mate's recommendation at The Gallery in Manchester in 1982....they should be world wide superstars....

They should be MUCH bigger than what they are now.........they at least deserve to pack in a 5000 seat arena.

The worlds most underrated band.

nope, they chose to make their own music and used the pop stuff to support their habit & for that we thank them. Yes Priest = Aura = WHOAWOW
