Nice review. Just two notes about (re)installing the OS: If you have a second computer with an optical drive, you can prepare a bootable USB flash drive and use that to install. This works for both XP and Linux but it's a bit more complicated for XP. Also instead of pressing F2 and change the BIOS settings, you can press F12 to get to the quick boot menu and select the USB drive or external DVD from there.

its a CDless OS, that means you dont need a operating cd. XP
heres the steps to erasing pc & it puts all the rest of your desk top software back all in 20 minutes,
(Steps)
Go to Start .
All programs .
Click on Acer Empower technologies .
click on Restore systems to default.
Click ok.
the system shuts down Automatically & erases & puts everything back including PC desktop Software.

@stancan1 There are plenty of Linux programs which will let you sign into an MSN account. Just check in the software library.
