Can someone explain why the referee lifts the fighters gloves up and down after he beats the 10 count? What is he checking for and how does he know when they can't continue? Like at 1:30
@zmalik10 The ref isn't checking for anything. Refs will see how you respond after being knockdown and will have you take one to three steps to make sure you're in good enough condition. Also, the referee checks the eyes. If the eyes wander and can't focus, that's another safety precaution. Cortez didn't do all these things but almost all refs do.

Can someone explain why the referee lifts the fighters gloves up and down after he beats the 10 count? What is he checking for and how does he know when they can't continue? Like at 1:30

@zmalik10 The ref isn't checking for anything. Refs will see how you respond after being knockdown and will have you take one to three steps to make sure you're in good enough condition. Also, the referee checks the eyes. If the eyes wander and can't focus, that's another safety precaution. Cortez didn't do all these things but almost all refs do.
