Ha Ha. But ER nurses don’t have it the worst. Try being an Ambulance officer where the Ambulance is free. People call you for the stupidest stuff. Oh sure I am happy to drive 40 km flat out 3am for your in grown toe nail. Try it out in the field then you will see the truly frustrating nurses!
@SteveBushwalker So wait you are calling me at 3am because your hands hurts for the past week and you've been driving all week as well... so why did you need our volunteer service.... because you think you will get seen faster? No it doesn't work that way... ok get in...ughhh haha
I have a friend that's making the move from paramedic to nurse and I don't envy him at all. I would have to slap the shit out of some one by the end of the first day.
@coryzgoddess Oh honey CHILD!!!!!!!! You hit it on the head boo! When I was a student, I was tucking filks in bed, running back and forth getting warm blankets, and putting the HOB up so folks could feel better. No wmind you, you can lift the HOB up and down with the handing little remote we give the pts. Honey, I was threanted to be fired because I refused to lift a cup to a mans mouth. Keep in mind, he had full ROM in his UE's, and was able to grasp objects, yes, i assessed before I refused.
Some people these days are just so stupid. "I used to take aspirin and medication for my cholestoral and blood pressure but I stopped" Nurse:"what on earth prompted you to stop?" "I felt better." I wouldn't be surprised if people actually walked in a hospital and said stuff like that. The only reason they're feeling better is because the medicine is supposed to make them feel better. Do some people honestly take medication only until they feel better then think they no longer need it?
@FlyingT1ger Yes, part of our job is spending tediously long amounts of time trying to educated people that health problems are life changing and that there is no 'cure' but rather indefinite use of a medication to correct a chemical or biological malfunction. I understand that it sucks and that it's unfair but it could be worse. 50-70 years ago, many of these things that we can now treat with indefinite medication would have killed most people within 5 years before we knew how to treat it.
@ScorpyCFS I think nurses don't get enough respect for the work they do. If I had to be a nurse I would probably go insane from dealing with all the stupid people. I don't know how you guys do it, but something tells me your profession doesn't get all of the respect it deserves.
@FlyingT1ger@FlyingT1ger I had someone on home O2 who disconnected his O2 for 3hrs, and was short of breath so he called 911. Parametics responded, hooked him back up to his O2 and what do you know! NO SOB!!! Yet he still came to the hospital! Some people are really that oblivious.
I love the "dependent population base" statement. You really can't blame society's trash for becoming dependent on narcotic drugs and ER rooms. It is the only place where they get treated like humans and get free drugs. Every day is Woodstock in an ER.
@BlueStateChronicle Its difficult to understand tone in a written medium, so in the case that you were agreeing, then great, if you were disagreeing and using your example to demonstrate, then my response would be that the term 'dependent population base' is a wider term to describe the ever increasing demands on government resources per person, such as the individual visiting the ER for a cold or the person calling the police because someone is using their bin to put other refuse in.
and then abusing those resources in some way, either literally with verbal or physical abuse, or just with the unrealistic expectations that those resources will bend over backwards to completely smooth out the wrinkle in that person's life that any normal functioning adult should be able to, and in fact should do themselves.
That is FANTASTIC...I literally burst out giggling towards the end. I'm an ICU nurse and get that kind of response from patients and it just kills me to hold my tongue sometimes.
when i broke my leg i made it easy on the nurses... what pissed me off is that it took them five hours to get me a blanket. i didn't complain tho... after all they where so nice to me.
Is it anyone else's experience that showing this video to non-nurses is somewhat . . . disappointing? Saying that, EVERY nurse I've shown loves it.

Truly Solid Gold!
I really like the way the nurse began by explaining what he was trying to do...with no effect on the Patient From Hell.
As an Inner City Nurse, I can tell you it is the rich trust-fund-entitled that act this way.
Homeless and poor are usually quiet or wacko.
Keep making these....it is helpful to have a 'slice of reality' on YouTube!
