You want an arch in your back while keeping your butt and upper back firmly on the bench. Your shoulder blades should be pinched together and tucked back. Keep your midsection tight. By arching your back, you keep your core tight. More importantly, you keep your rotator cuff protected by pinching your shoulder blades.
@NastyTigerstyle It certainly depends. One could choose to either bench with a flat back or arched back.
Recently I tweaked my back by arching it during this exercise, not too bad but enough to make the week uncomfortable for me.
Arching your back may also result in using more of your mid pecs than you want in the exercise (this is important if working your upper pecs are priority).
But yes, always, always, always, tuck the shoulders!
@iModpsp the difference is all in the seat on which you lay on. If the seat is even, then it's a bench press. In the video, the seat is at an angle which makes this an incline press. and the opposite of this is a decline press.
Bad form. By not going down you don't get the full benefit. Going all the way to the top or "locking out" actually emphasizes more triceps than it does chest.
when im unracking the bar, i have a terrible pain go through my left elbow.. why is that? am i lifting it at an angle? Im not lifting to much weight, as i can go through 6 reps with the desired weight.. Plz right back as soon as u can..
@belldogg19 You need to be careful with joint pain. It can cause serious harm. I can't tell you exactly what your doing wrong cause i dont know but joint pain is bad bad bad. I stopped benching since it was to hard on my neck and back. hope this helps.
Inhale on the way down..inhale on the way up..lol

I heard when you lift the bar, you have to make a L shaped with your hands. Not to flex all the way up!

@FlameFreak48 this retard didn't answer your question to the fullest..
the inclinebench trains your upper chest, decline trains lower chest, and flat trains mid chest.
StaRay09 7 months ago
@iModpsp if no one has answered this, benchpress is when the bench is flat, incline is when the bench is raised, where the head is at.

How old is that bar? It looks rusted like hell.

Should we use weight, or just the bar?
gaBehcuoDsuoitneterP 9 months ago 2
@gaBehcuoDsuoitneterP Use weight. Less than you would use for bench press but more than you would for military press.

Apparently, I must inhale for the entire set.

You don't want to bring your arms too low; this will cause injury.
