  • jackie is a total orgasm!

  • The Byrds also did Don't Doubt Yourself Babe by Jackie DeShannon.

  • no video

  • Wow, never heard this before. Could swear I heard David Crosby's voice in the beginning, but I can't heard it after that.

  • I am sure I can hear Gene Clark's voice (low) and Roger McGuinn's Rickenbacker 360-12 string playing. I am a big Byrds fan (seen them in concert 15 times or so) and have never heard this before. Great song thanks

  • Who wrote this song? Beautiful, never heard it....Jackie and The Byrds!!! Was this before they hit it big? What is this song about? Oh I just read below this was recorded at the same time The Byrds recorded "Mr. Tamourine Man", so they were not yet famous....wonderful....

  • Iirc I read this was recorded when they were finishing recording the Mr.Tambourine Man lp.

  • @darling67 naw this is just as shit as the pop crap today

  • @darling67 Not at all, what is really lame is the mainstream industry. I happened to bump into Kate Perry almost the same way, just to find a lousy rip-off of an old song by Jackie Mittoo! Is this what the supposedly talented Miss Perry stands for?! Gimme a break!, she's nothing! Anyway, it's a cool thing having YT around, so we can scan throughout the world so as to avoid the gorgeous-but-untalented Miss Perry and the just-cute-but-even-more-untalented Miss Gaga.

  • @MechaGojira00 Lady GAGA cute? I think shes really plain. Does a good song now and then. Jackie DeShannon was gorgeous and often did good music.

  • @402maypo I think you're quite right, Gaga's not cute. I dunno what I was thinking of or having running through my veins when writing that comment. Jackie DeShannon did not often but quite often good music, also she was kinda advanced as could make some inrods into folk and rock fusion a couple of years before The Byrds or even Dylan. But well she keeps on being one of the most underrated composers in pop history, being it sorta sad. Cheers!

  • @darling67 Man,I'm with you.Sad to say that Katie Perry is the best of an unbelievably lame bunch. What must Jackie and Carol King be thinking? And they did it in the early 60's,not exactly a female friendly time.Competed with Elvis,Lennon/McCartney,and won more often than they lost.Always make sure my little girl hears music that was written, arranged, produced, and performed by the best girls ever.

  • @oleole52 I was just a little kid but this was my era,i listen to the "oldies"many i can remember, youtube is incredible finding archive recordings and the live clips,as for over promotion of many singers these days compare them to Judith Durham(seekers-never find another you)she sings like an angel,my Dad played me a song by Anita Carter(i never heard of her)she also has an incredible voice, both these artists were so humble, i don't think there is not one current vocalist who can even compare

  • @darling67 kate Perry (Hot 'n cold?) she is ok for 2010. Probably the best of the crop. Doesn't say much, does it? I was lucky enough to grow up on this stuff

  • @darling67 It sure is! And remember that many artists of today record an album like every third year. But still they can't come up with a real good album in many cases. Compared that to the 60s, when you were supposed to do two albums and four singles a year.

  • When interviewed by Terri Gross on NPR's Fresh Air, Terri said that she was shocked that this didn't become a big hit. Jackie said she wrote the song after seeing the film with Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty. She wept at the end, and felt compelled to write a song about this moving film that dealt with first love. Jackie said that she loved the Byrds, and would try to see them at every opportunity, so how fortunate that they performed together, for at least this one time.

  • Oh, that's fascinating. If you have it, perhaps you could put up the demo version sometime? It'd be great to compare.

  • @Sweeteesweet1

I always thought this was the demo version....its described as such on the Byrd Parts volume 2 cd

    Jim

  • @captainsoul1953 No, there's an acoustic demo from 1965, which was released to the record business only.

  • 3 versions by Jackie, really? I've heard this and the orchestrated one on "Me About You". May I ask what the third version is?

  • @Sweeteesweet1 Thanks for all your nice comments. There's also a demo version of this song, which is included on her acoustic (demo) album, "Metric 5".
