  • I love the fact that makers of kids films back then didn't worry or shy away from scaring kids and exposing them to danger because they didn't forget what most adults do after childhood and that's that children enjoy be scared and excited. if u pitched this to a studio to get made as a kids film today it wouldn't make it past the script stage let alone be filmed, We need to get films and the story telling in films back to this way ,IF I SEE ANOTHER OUT NOW IN 3D ILL SCREAM !

  • It's sad and quit depressing to think if this had of been made now the set's would all be flat green screen backgrounds and all the animals wold be flat and shiny CGI and voiced by singers in the pop chat's. Thank fu*$ing god it wasn't and that we have this and films like it labyrinth, dark Crystal,Never ending story,Gremlins, to watch aging and aging,

I genunely think film studios back then were not so worried or hung up on making a loss and were more worried about actually making a good film.

  • I forgot how funny the scene was where Tick-tok was going to save Dorothy but his action ran down.

  • I really have no idea why critics despised this film so much. I have read every OZ Book, and there are a few differences, but this is MUCH more fathful to the origional books. The look is exactly like the illustraitions in the books. The Judy Garland movie (though I will allways love it) took major liberties with how characters looked and the whole story line.

  • That man at 7:48 might as well have been freddy krueger to me in my childhood

  • Wrong video XD!

  • and dont forget to eat cadbury easter eggs...

  • Love the movie! Muchos recuerdos de mi infancia !

  • Months of rehearsal! A week is all we had!

  • They just don't make em this way anymore. Animatronics must come back.

  • for my opinion number one fantasy with the never ending story 1984 thanks for upload this documentary.

  • brilliant puppetry

  • This is like a feature from the '50s, especially with the head Wheeler talking in a chair, he might as well be smoking a pipe.

  • This is just glorious - Thank you so much!!

I adore this film and teach with it.

Is it possible that I could buy this documentuary from you on DVD? I would be more than happy to pay a reasonable price.

  • This video has the first half from the 1985 making-of documentary "the Whimsical World of Oz", and it's great to see it again after all this time!

And again it went by so quickly!

  • this is just brilliant! thanks so much for the upload!

  • It seems that lots of people are rediscovering this movie. By the way, narrating this minipiece...is that Happy Days's Tom Bosley?

Incidentally, isn't this the same character Jean Marsh always plays? Talk about typecasting...

  • Thanks for posting this video. I grew up watching this. Too bad it was underrated for so long, but I think people are rediscovering just how great it is!

It was thrilling, scary, and entertaining all at once. You don't see this type of quality in films anymore! Not even with the digital.

    Thanks again!

  • Well how about Harry Potter or Spiderwick Chronicles? now those are scary modern fantasy movies.
