The Serbian government sent out military to ''protect'' the locals from deserters and Italians and then they threatened that if The State of SCS didn't join Serbia in a common union under the absolut Serbian dynasty the Serbians would take parts of the State's teritory. Im well aware that there is centuries of ethnic conflict associated with the Balkans, however the communist party's grand plans of a united Yugoslavia led under Serbia would only last so long.

The Yugoslavia project was ill-formed post WW2 based on a wild dream that lasted almost 50 years. After the death of Josip "Tito" Bros, the nationalsim that lay dormant for decades started brewing once again. You cannot simply expect so many different religions to co-exist peacefully without conflict. bullsh*t. yugoslavia was a good country to live in if (1) you were a serb or (2) you were a communist. it wasn't a good country to live in if you were croatian or slovenian. most of the jobs (and thus most of the power) in the military and government went to serbs. croatia and slovenia were the most prosperous and literally bankrolled the rest of the country at the expense of their citizens.

The division of the southern slavic people (with the exception of bulgarians/macedonians) is obviously artificial and each party supported some of its minions based on religion (Russia - the serbs, Germany/Austria - the croats and Turkey - the bosniaks). In it's first 20 years, Yugoslavia was organized to negate any "ethnic purity" of it's divisions. Noble goal, but what was the result: Ante Pavelic and his genocidal practices! So Tito, post WWII, creates the political divisions...which recognized the ethnic groups- however Tito didn't prefer any of them, and he would crush any of them that got out of line!

The Serbian government sent out military to ''protect'' the locals from deserters and Italians and then they threatened that if The State of SCS didn't join Serbia in a common union under the absolut Serbian dynasty the Serbians would take parts of the State's teritory. @sasht1 Tito was quoted as saying - A weaker Serbia is a stronger Yugoslavia. Wasn't Tito was in fact Croatian who had the desires of a independant Croatia in his heart at some point. The Kingdom of Croats, Slovenes and Serbs formed the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1918 and ended in 1943. Im well aware that there is centuries of ethnic conflict associated with the Balkans, however the communist party's grand plans of a united Yugoslavia led under Serbia would only last so long.

It was the old case of some not wanting to let go of power at any cost which had a huge impact on the lives of their current and future citizens. The Yugoslavia project was ill-formed post WW2 based on a wild dream that lasted almost 50 years. After the death of Josip "Tito" Bros, the nationalsim that lay dormant for decades started brewing once again. You cannot simply expect so many different religions to co-exist peacefully without conflict. The Yugoslav idea would never last and each region (similar to the former Soviet Union countries of Ukraine eg) would always desire their own independence. The balkans war of the 90's could have..

The division of the southern slavic people (with the exception of bulgarians/macedonians) is obviously artificial and each party supported some of its minions based on religion (Russia - the serbs, Germany/Austria - the croats and Turkey - the bosniaks). @izbicno1 first you dont know nothing of history, if serbs wanted to kill all bosniaks and croats why in the hell we made croatia and bosnia, they didnt it was serbia who created their states, serbian soliders, we allredy had kingdom they never did. afetr WW1 we have been asced if we wont great serbia or we want to make yougoslavia with all nations equal, we have choesen yugoslavia. we dont hate croats and bosniaks it is stupid what you saying.

@redserb1389 I do know something about history, and to say the Serbs created Croatia or Bosnia is factually incorrect. In it's first 20 years, Yugoslavia was organized to negate any "ethnic purity" of it's divisions. Noble goal, but what was the result: Ante Pavelic and his genocidal practices! So Tito, post WWII, creates the political divisions...which recognized the ethnic groups- however Tito didn't prefer any of them, and he would crush any of them that got out of line!

@andell1 hmm no serbs took macedona in first and secound balkan war, in ww1 we were most effective force in tessaloniki front(also called macedonian front) when serbs broke bulgars, turks and austrians together with greeks and french. when that front was broken our soliders rush to free all occupied land. we have given to create great serbia but our king refused and made yugoslavia witch had something witch is called banovinas(almost countries). ante pavelic was croatian and nazi scum.

@redserb1389 Of course Ante Pavelic was Croatian...I wasn't suggesting that he was Serb: I was suggesting that in it's first 20 years or so, trying so hard to create a Yugoslav identity that Serbs, Croats and Slovenes could embrace...still did not erode the resentment that some within Yugoslavia felt towards others they were supposed to see as countrymen.
And Serbia not creating a "Greater Serbia" probably had more to do with seeing what happened to Austria-Hungary!

@redserb1389 And you seem like a very reasonable, decent person...but at the end of the day, the reality is that Yugoslavia didn't work out. And it wasn't just Yugoslavia: Czechoslovakia and the USSR were also two other nations which were multi-ethnic, and where political union couldn't survive after totalitarian rule ended.
But one day, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia...will all be together again...in the EU!

@redserb1389 True...but with one vital difference: none of the former states of Yugoslavia will be in any position to exert dominance over any other state of the former Yugoslavia.
