  • this was a bit too fast and somewhat confusing

  • wtf you are doing it sooo fast mabye you can make a remake in slowmotion that will be helpful tumbs up if you want it to !

  • I don't see how this video is so helpfull. All it did was confuse me

  • Perfect!! I am going to make one continuous square and use as a blanket! Love your tutorials!

  • thanks teresa you are the best

  • I love this tutorial! Its so helpful

  • @ThePinnagerjaggin Thank you.

  • عمل رائع والشرح مبهر

    شكرا لك

  • @totalife18 Είστε ευπρόσδεκτοι

  • Im 13 now and I've been crocheting for 2 years. I didn't do much back then exept an extremely long chain :P But your videos helped me soo much over this time and I have already made a granny square blanket, a beanie hat, a bag, and many other things. I even know more than my grandma! (x It helps me get my mind off of things that worry me too much :D Thank you thank you thank you sooo much Teresa!!

  • @ABCnormalperson1 You are coming along quite well. Keep up the practice and you will continue to be successful with each individual technique.

  • Hola!!! Me podría recomendar algún tutorial en el que enseñen a hacer el cambio de color en donde queda un triangulo del cuadrito de un color y el otro de otro color?? Gracias.

  • What size of needle were you using and what kind of yarn????

  • @cbreitung1 Size I/5.5mm crochet hook

  • Oh Nevermind.

  • Are THere Written Instructions? I Would Like To Book Mark Those To Because The Speed of this is confusing me as I try to do it along with the video

  • @LittleCraftyKitty There is a link to the written instructions in the video details below the video.

  • thank you so much this was so helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @madifunny12 You are welcome.

  • I Bookmarked This lol

  • FINALLY I found the sigle color one.

  • I'm a crochet beginner and your video was so great! A granny square blanket is my first project! :)

  • How do we turn this into a scarf?

  • @hamstertiff99 You can sew the squares together.

  • Do how have a video that shows you how to crochet a whole bunch of these together to make a blanket? Is that even possible?

  • Best granny square instructions ever! I watched a few others and mine came out as a circle, or a rolled up square. After watching this video, it actually looks like a square!!!

  • @Evysmommy Thank you. :)

  • @Evysmommy Mine too! LOL!

  • WHAT SIZE NEEDLE ARE YOU USING? IT DOESN'T SHOW IN THE WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS :((

  • @magikalgirl79 The size crochet hook does not matter because it can be made with most sizes. The most common size I use is 5.5mm size I.

  • I know how to make the granny square, but I don't know how to keep my hole in the middle from being abnormally large. How do I fix this?

  • What size hook are you using????? I'm trying to make some squares for "Share a Square" they make blankets for kids with cancer

  • Thank you, thank you thank you!!!!! I was losing my mind trying to figure out the corners. you are an awesome instructor!!!!

  • @suethewino I appreciate the comment, thank you

  • I was just wondering what size hook you're using? And I love allll your videos. Without them I would never have been able to re-learn how to crochet ;) thanks so much

  • This might be a dumb question but I was wondering how do you close off the granny square when your all finished?

  • @RollRightOver You join the last round together. That is by inserting your hook through the top of the first stitch, wrap the yarn over your hook, pull it through the stitch and the loop on your hook. Cut the yarn, pull it through and then give it a tug. Then you sew in the tail.

  • @tjw1963 oh my gosh that was easy lol, thank you so much for responding, your videos are awesome!

  • @RollRightOver Thank you. :)

  • Thanks!!

  • Thank you very much Teresa for your teaching. I managed to make a granny square for the first time. Thanks a million from London UK

  • hi

im getting good at doning the granny square just few questions if you could help please :)

    1) Should i turn the blanket every time i chnage up get to the edge? does it have to be turned

    2) how to i make the holes smaller on the granny square, ive tried smaller hook not made any diff that i can see!!

    Thanks :)

  • @532818 do you use tension?maybe you need to do it tighter?? just a suggestion feel free to try it!

  • @532818 also you dont really need to turn it, just when you get to a corner rotate the square, thats wat i do!

  • Teresa, I must thank you for teaching me more than I've ever learned on my own. I took a project I learned from you to our county fair and I won a purple ribbon. Thanks from a happy fan, and please keep posting, your a great teacher.

  • @520ranchhand Congratulations! Purple ribbon is best of show isn't it? Thank you!

  • grrrr, i cnt frikkin get it, sorry but i find u crochet too fastt!!

  • @pudbopoo11 When you are beginner, you will reduce your frustration by learning the beginning crochet stitches first before trying out a project. There is a pause and rewind on the video player

  • What can you make with this??

  • @bieberfever5207 A blanket, scarf, purse,

  • wow I never knew there were so many variations of granny squares! Your instructions are so easy to follow! is there any way you can please send me a playlist of each different crochet , like single, double , half double , and so forth...thank you so much for putting these videos out there for everyone!

  • @5happydays5 I will send you the playlist of the beginner stitches

  • Thank you so much! This was exactly what I was looking for. You explained it perfectly and made it easy. I kept trying to follow this pattern I have and it made no sense at all. I could do yours without even looking at the stupid pattern now. Thanks again. I can't wait to see your other videos.

  • @Apricotic You are welcome! If you visit my profile, I have a lot of them in playlists. You will also find a playlist full of granny squares.

  • Is it me, or is knitting so much easier than crochet? I've been looking at video tutorials and reading tutorials all over and follow them as exactly as i can, and not once have i been able to get the granny square right!! I'm at my wit's end with crochet.

  • @incandescentsmile I have never been able to figure out knitting.

  • Thanks for your videos. Even though I am the beginner I got the granny square perfectly. One quick question for you what is the kind of yarn you are using? Please give me the reply. Thank you.

  • I have been trying to crochet for a long time, and this video is absolutely wonderful!!

  • Hi, your crochet videos are excellent! I've never crocheted before but watched your loopy flower square tutorial 2 days ago and made a complete square the following day... It looked fab. I was wondering if maybe you could do a tutorial with the loopy flower on this traditional square? Many thanks Ashley

  • Thank you SOO much for such a great tutorial. I just made my frist granny square and I'm so inspired to make a full afghan!

  • Words fail me to describe how EASY you have made crocheting for me Teresa!!! I knew how to crotchet just never how to start.... I now know what i am doing and feel confident to try some more beautiful crocheting videos you have uploaded!!

    Many MANY thanks and Blessings

  • No matter how many times I try to do this pattern it NEVER turns out right. I'm very comfortable with SC and DC, chain stitches, etc. It either comes out as a circle with huge holes or a lop-sided square. Very frustrating :-(

  • Ne pis tırnaklı kadın yaaa, insan bir manikur yaptirir. Migdem bulandi yemin ederim. Nereyide acsam bu tirnaklar cikiyor karsima.

  • BUH!! the sound of the yarn rubbing the chrochet needle gave me chills. haha!

  • How could anyone possibly NOT like this video?

    Simon in NJ

  • I've made two afghans for family but they both came out lopsided, what am i doing wrong?? Your videos are very helpful but I just don't know what I'm doing so wrong.. Please help

  • @amsantana86 A lopsided square may have to do with missing corner increase stitches. Possibly missing a set of stitches on the side, which will make one side smaller than the others.

  • aaah! making gs afghan for friend and it's lopsided what'd I do wrong?

  • thank you!!

  • what size hook and what type of yarn did you use for this?

  • @iheart906 The yarn is 4 ply yarn. The hook is a size I/5.5mm crochet hook

  • Thank You!!

  • Couldnt understand the book I got, but watching this has made it alot clearer. Thankyou so much

  • @cody1800212 Just keep in mind that there are many different techniques with crochet so you can pick and choose what works best for you. I appreciate the comment!

  • Very helpful. :) It was so easy to follow! Thanks so much. :)

  • @VaishNaik You are welcome!

  • Did my first granny square with this...thank you!!!

  • Where did you learn how to crochet like this?

  • @craftygurl101 My mom got me started but I learned the rest from magazines and books

  • I get SOOOO confused when patterns say "slip stitch to beginning chain 3" or something like that, I can NEVER see a space to slip stitch in....I tried putting a marker on it so when I finished I would know which chain in chain 3 but I still can't see a space to put the hook in....

Can somebody please help me? It's so hard to make anything when you have difficulty with such a simple step!

  • @acaycia That means to slip stitch in top of the first chain 3. In some circumstances, the first chain 3 will count as the first stitch.

  • I saw a video where the guy chained 2 and double crocheted 3, is this just a stylistic difference?

  • @OboeLady86 It is going to depend on what you are making. There are a lot of variations to create unique designs. In some circumstances, it is preference on what technique you like best.

  • I just bought a book to get back into crocheting. The granny square was listed as easy, but I just couldn't follow along with the directions. Thank you so much for this video...now that I understand your direction better than the book, I'm off to Michael's to purchase more yarn...!!! :)

  • @leigh2820 I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • My first time after almost 26 years without doing nothing, was with your precious help. I was 10 now im 36 , mother of a little girl who will win a new blanket , thanks to you :)))

    Thank you so much!

  • @soniarisquinhas Thank you for the comment!

  • The problem I have with this video is the problem I have always had every time someone tries to teach me to crochet: They just stick their needle in here and there without explaining what they're aiming for. As far as I can tell in this video, when you're going through stitches to pick up the yarn and bring it through after the first "double crochet" you're just randomly shoving the crochet hook in some place. A little more explanation and detail would be extremely helpful.

  • thank you so much! you are the best tutor ever! i just finished a birthday gift for my mother, couldn't have done it without you :D

  • @avahung1206 Happy birthday to your Mom! I appreciate the comment.

  • Thank you! I made these as a child with my grandmother, but it slipped my mind....it came right back...I like how I could crochet the square with you..it was just like crocheting with her again. I'm on my way to some cool projects!

  • Okay, so can you just keep going and make a neverending granny square, like if I was just going to make a blanket, or do you have to make a bunch of the 5 rounded ones and stitch them together?

  • Thank you. A friend spent time with me yesterday after Christmas Dinner teaching me the Granny Square pattern. Your tutorial was a perfect follow up for the next morning!

  • @jkdiverkaren I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • Hello, u are soooo good a t crocheting! Who ever taught u in the first place?

  • I just attempted to do the granny square and it looks like a circle, I've redone it about 5 times and am still getting the same result. Any ideas what i might be doing wrong?

  • @Smoocherz have you done 2 sets of 3 dbl crochets per corner hole?

  • @Smoocherz The corners are 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet in the same space. If you you look below the video, you will find the link to the written instructions.

  • is there a limit to how big the square can be?

  • @avalon2468 You can make the square as large as you would like.

  • Great tutorial... Thank you!!

How do I join the granny squares together?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you! I am totally crocheting all kinds of hats, scarves, and flowers because of you. You are a great teacher. I am just finishing up my first granny square afghan. I used your slip stitch joining technique between squares and am finishing up the border as we speak. Thank you for posting such great and helpful videos.

  • Wow... I did it! Thanks a million. I loved that you did this in real time lt allowed me to stop and start and look at your technique... yaya

  • VERY GOOD TEACHER!! GREAT VIDEOS!! CLEAR!! PATIENT!!

I GET IT THE FIRST TIME!!!! YOU ARE THE VERY VERY BEST ON YOUTUBE!!!!

  • Thanks, your videos are very good. I am a beginner and I tried this granny square with very good results. Not as pretty though. I think I need to make them less tight, I am practising.

  • @catibar Keep practicing and you will get the hang of the crochet granny square. Thank you for the comment.

  • i adore u teresa, now im making granny square crochet thank u very much

  • @riddick4986 You are welcome! :)

  • Whenever I try this, the edges really curl and it turns into a granny bowl more than a square - what am I doing wrong?

  • @ralizpo With the granny square, there are increases in each corner. It is possible that you have missed some increase stitches or the chains may be to tight. I do have the written and symbol instructions posted on my crochet blog. The symbol diagram will help you with stitch placement. The link is in the video details below the video.

  • Thank you so much! I just made my very first granny square with you! Not quite as perfectly done as yours, but I'm pretty darn proud of it!

  • @nursepeachy You are welcome! Keep practicing and the granny squares will become more consistent.

  • I absolutly adore your videos!!!!! I have a question though, I would like to do a large square as a blanket but instead of changing colours in the round could they be changed in a way so it looks like four triangles together? I realise this will be hard for the center but i was thinking of about round 2?? your view on this would be greatly valued!!!!

  • thank god, a visual lesson!! i couldnt figure this out on paper and i wanted to make a christmas present and i almost gave up until i found this!!!

i have one question......how do you hold your yarn in your left hand? please reply!

    thank you!!

  • @peachey2021 I have a separate video and will send you the link.

  • Hi, Teresa: I've watched several of your vids and credit you and your instruction with helping me being a crocheter! I do have a question. I plan to make an afghan out of one traditional granny square. You stick to one color, do you have recommendations how to switch the colors? I've read about and have seen different variations, wonder what you recommend. Thanks so much!

  • @wig4usc If you go to my main channel, you will find a playlist with granny squares made in a variety of colors, changing colors. I prefer to slip stitch to attach, and then work a chain for the step if the first stitch is a double crochet.

  • Good teaching video. Might need to pick this up for a hobby.

  • @Utubebrowser111 Thank you.

  • Teresa you are truly amazing, you're a greaaaat teacher I love your videos!!!:)

  • @GabyEscol Thank you!

  • Teresa, Do you have a video showing how to do the wavy stitch also known as zig zag crochet?

  • @beginner46 I do have 3 ripple videos posted.

  • @beginner46 I will send you the link.

  • @tjw1963 Have you or can you do a video on how to do the zig zag crochet, also known as the wavy stitch.

  • this video was a big help, thanks very much, i was taught to do basic crocheting in school but ony long chains im glad to have another skill, im going to make a big patchwork blanket out of granny squares for my bed when im not at work! thanks again!!

  • @AleiraDarkIce You are welcome.

  • Hi. I am making a baby blanket from a granny square but as it gets larger the blanket starts to pucker. Am I doing something wrong?

  • @missmorgan04 As in getting wavy and full? I am not understanding what you mean by puckering? Where is it puckering?

  • @tjw1963 I guess you could say its wavy and full. Maybe Im not explaining it correctly. All I know is that when Im done the corners don't meet perfectly. But have u made a blanket from a granny square?

  • @missmorgan04 If the edges are not even, I am wondering if some stitches have been missed somewhere. You may want to count each side to make sure it is even.

  • @tjw1963 ok. thx.

  • thank you soooo much for your videos!!!!! I'm left handed and used your left hand versions to learn. now a few months on I can read and copy from a right hand pattern!!!!! I've made baby hats, toddler hats and a few of the Kingston hats ( for me and a few friends!) and have now gone on to complete 3 Blankets!!!!! all with frills and flowers from your videos!!!!! My four kids thinks it's brilliant.Thank u,Thank u,Thank u!!!!!!!

  • I have been practicing all day and I am making circles not squares its driving me mad!!!!

  • @BigMommaGLC Hey, I just found ur solution I think. I got it confused at first too. What happens is, when you get to those corners u do three times double crochet right? Well u actually do more: you do three times a double crochet, then chain two, THEN three times double crochet in the SAME hole. thats what makes the corners! Or at least that's what I understood. Check out 8:36 - 8:50. Good luck!

  • @qtlivinhappy The link to the written instructions is posted below the video. You will find a symbol chart, which should help with the stitch placement.

  • After all these years of trying to read patterns a friend introduced me to your video's and i'm running around with yarn, making new things!! wahooo so thank you so much for your time you put into this.. Your a blessing to so many... Do you have a video that shows us how to put these squares together???

  • i'm kind of confused, cause my great grandma showed me a totally different way. She made 2 or 3 blankets out 130 of these squares. i'm going to need practice.

  • @PeaceAndLove3737 There are hundreds of different ways to make granny squares.

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial Teresa, YOu are truly a very good teacher.

Please could you help me with a pattern for doing a Crochet Square measuring 8 Inches.

the pattern I am doing just now is: 34 ch, Dc in 3rd ch fm hook and dc across. turn ch1 and then dc across to measure up to 8". which is taking forever. also I am struggling to keep the square in its shape. what am i doing wrong? especially towards the end when I have to turn do I slip stich or do a Dc ? thanks for your help.

  • YOU ARE SOOOO COOL TERESA !!!! You have taught me crocheting through several of your vids and yours are BY FAR the most easiest to follow with very clear, slow and in a weird way patient instructions, lol.. Thanks So Much!!

  • @nascar2182001 Your kind words are much appreciated, thank you!

  • Made my first square yesterday, had to watch it again to remember how to make another one, but I'm getting the hang of it. Love the idea of making a whole blanket just by continuing the rounds...might just do that.

  • Dear Teresa, Thank you for this very clear instruction! I live in the Netherlands where we use slightly different terms but I was perfectly able to follow your example, thank you!! Tirza

  • @tirzatirza1 I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • OK got it. Thank you very much for helping me begin a project I think I´ll work on a long time.

  • @1970SMary Thank you for sharing your success. I am proud of you too!

  • youtube wouldnt allow me to give the link. I can send you the link in your blog or send an email.

  • Teresa, I really appreciate your effort in putting up all these videos. I am a beginner and I saw this really cute pattern in one of the sites. But I am not able to understand the pattern. I know this is little too much to ask for but if you could put up a video I dont have words to express how grateful i will be...

  • can you make them a big as you want?

  • @myaam123 Yes.

  • The woma who would have tought me this sadly died when I was 15, and at 15 you dont listen as you know everything then dont you? lol thank you fro reviving my old musty thoughts so I can go back and do some good old traditional home steading
