Club members never pet the birds in public, as it gives people the idea that they can pet them as well. There are over 15 birds in the Raptor Club, and only a few allow themselves to be touched. @DProductionsNBK - When we took him to his first presentation (we had 14 birds at the Sandhill Crane Festival) and the gal who was handling him was carrying him around the room, he rotated his head entirely upside-down and looked around the room. Cameras were flashing, people were laughing, and he was just eating it up. He's a real character.

He is definitely a club favorite.

Widget is a wild owl who cannot be released back into to the wild due to his being imprinted as a baby. I am in the WSU Raptor Club, and the four videos that I have posted are of Raptor Club birds.
Widget is imprinted, Kessie has a broken and irreparable wing, Gwen has brain and eye damage, and Windsong is totally blind.
We are student volunteers, and we will care for these birds for the rest of their lives. We have a Red-Tailed Hawk that has been with us for 28 years.
@KokoroXali You knew there were barn owls breeders out there, right? They sell them as domesticated animals. By the way, I regret my comment, I've changed during the year, and now I love barn owls in another way: wild ;)
Hadn't seen this for some reason. That's the way I prefer all animals, and that sentiment is shared by the members of the Raptor Club. The second to the last thing that anybody wants is for the bird to join the club. The very last thing that anybody wants is for the bird to die or be put down.
One of the Club's Great Horned Owls was released last spring. Against all odds, she recovered enough to go free. She was not 100%, but close enough. She had babies this summer.
