To all the haters of Crossfit pull ups. Just stop comparing it to regular pull ups. They should be called "kips" or something. It's about getting the chin over the bare without touching the ground.
Do that as effective as possible = kipping or butterfly.
Exactly like snatch, try saying to a olympic lifter that he cheats in his snatch becuase he uses hipdrive, and doesn't pull/push it all the way up. He'll go going under the bar. And thereby doing the motion as effective as possible.
It's hilarious how many people are bashing the pullup form. How about this guys: Post a video response of YOU doing a crossfit workout so we can rip YOUR form to shreds. Oh wait... that's right.... you've CLEARLY NEVER DONE CROSSFIT!! lol
This is really impressive but one thing I'll never get is why all the kipping on the pullups? If you want to make this or something like Roy truly hardcore then people would do legit pullups.
@ w0y1z92753...about the pull ups, you gotta remember that they do these WOD's or whatever you wanna call them for time, now I've done dead hang pulls ups and Butterfly pull ups my self, it's much faster to do the butterfly pull ups, or kippling pull ups whatever you wanna call them and trust me they're not as easy as you think they are...you feel it regardless...just to clear up the reasoning behind the type of pull up...if you can't do butterfly pull ups ur sure to take really long on these..
Awesome job guys. However, I don't know why, but I hate seeing people do those kipping? kippling? pull ups. I just don't see them as legit pull ups because you're using momentum to partially assist in the following rep. Dead hang chins are the only way to pull, IMO.
@w0y1z92753 yea but your not doing 8 or 10 pull ups in a row. You can generally be doing anywhere from 20-40 in a row, so good luck doing 3+ rounds of that w/ dead hangs. Plus, even if you are using momentum the number of pull ups makes up for the use of momentum. And in Crossfit, the WODs are competitions that we use to compete against one another and ourselves. Its not like we don't do strict dead hang pull ups, but for competitions based on time, its impractical.
@Cookies205 True. I mean it's still a great effort to get through these workouts. However, I do know people who can do 40 legit dead hang pulls. Maybe that's why I don't like kipping. I still appreciate the dedication and effort required to get these guys to where they are, though.
@rowdyrob06 Yeah it's tough... it's supposed to be. If they did dead hangs, sure their times would be longer, but that's kinda irrelevant. Personally, I couldn't match these guys times. However, I still say dead hang chins should be what they are doing. It's like someone running a marathon for the first time, they don't get up and run one straight away they train and increase their distance over time. The same philosophy applies here.
@Cookies205 Well in the Army (Australian) we used to do a drill where we'd do 1 then 2 then 3 up to ten and back down again of dead hang pulls with push ups x3 the number of chin reps, so 3, 6,9,12... etc... and squats x2 the number of chin reps. So we'd do in total 110 chins, 330 push ups and 220 squats. My point is that it's not impossible. You really struggle at first, but that's the whole idea. I do know guys who can do 50 DHC in a row, for sets. They're machines.
@w0y1z92753 i think the reason they do the kipping pull ups is to maintain high intensity with working your whole body. pull ups are for bodybuilding, which isn't the goal. but at the same time i think they are funny too cuz they are "fake" pull ups. but im gonna suck it up and do them cuz i just received in the mail the p4 pull up system from rogue fitness. i've come to the realization that CF gets you more healthy than bodybuilding.
@mreisma LOL body building? Really? So the only people who do strict pullups are body builders? Get a grip kid. Bad form is bad form. Pull ups are a highly functional exercise, and are done by athletes in the widest range of sports. Body building... ROFL
She is sooo hot..... Her husband is a lucky guy.... but the guy in front of her.... still didn't finsh the work-out... if you look at a lot of his thrusters his head didn't go underneath the bar which = no rep
@Urrzah give this workout a shot man and you'll see the bigger picture...and just because crossfit is made for performance as opposed to aesthetics doesn't mean a thing - crossfitters are among the most shredded individuals out there, dwarfing 95% of those with a "bodybuilding" approach to fitness.
nice. i got into crossfit in the military and we made a puke bucket that said on the side, "for those who put out." we would bring it to the gym and people would see our workouts and i could tell they were scared. great job to all 3 of you.
The usual prescribed weight is #95 Men, #65 Women... However, it's also meant to be scalable. Meaning, if that weight is too much or two little you can adjust to fit your needs and abilities.
A kipping pull up is to a regular pull up what a push jerk is to a strict press. What about that is so hard to understand?
