I really do not understand all the comments saying this is not Aretha! They say it does not sound like her, but it sounds exactly like her! Aretha can and has always been able to sing in different styles. That is the magic of her voice!!!!!!!
Columbia was just out of ideas for the future Queen of Soul. This is just bland and they tried to take every bit of Soul out of Aretha. Thank God for Atlantic Records and the great Jerry Wexler. They let Re be Re and the rest is history!
@MrStyle23 I don't see Columbia in that light. Sure Aretha was not at the head of her career at Columbia but they introduced Aretha to genres and songs that might have been alien to her. Her Columbia years are very underrated and it might not have been where Ree needed to be but her material from that period was aw inspiring.
@ THE QUEEN ARETHA: True the song is from "Runnin Out of Fool" - Columbia. However, I don't believe the voice used here in this video is Aretha - It sounds nothing like her.....
The Queen can sing a phone book and it will sound fabulous to us! I like that she sang this song with soften tone. It shows her ability to sing almost any type of music.
@MrStyle23 if im not mistaken, Aretha's father wanted her to sign to Motown..He ended up slapping her because she wouldn't.....She ended up going to Columbia where she wanted to go.. I think in her book, she stated that "thank god" she didn't go to motown.

Wow!! While I can hear it's Aretha it still sounds so different from what I remember of Aretha. Perhaps it's one of her earliest songs.

Better than Mary Wells version in my opinion.... This take had much more rhythm and attitude, but Mary did show the way

.. And would you believe Aretha was to have been Motown Records' first big female singing superstar if Berry Gordy got his way. Aretha's my girl!

Believe or not, MOTOWN/Berry PASSED on Aretha & the Franklin Sisters (Erma & Carolyn) for a more, a you know *certain* type of "sound".

Actually Aretha passed on Motown. Her father wanted her to go to a more establish label (Columbia).
