  • I just bought one , i thought is was the mama bear , but i measured it , its the baby bear stove , takes up to 18'' logs . I havent got it into the house yet , i have to sand some surface rust off and paint it. Its also missing the upper row of fire brick , this is one heavy ,big stove, i cant imagine the pappa bear stove, is there any valuable advice you have about operating this stove. Its my first wood stove.

  • @1952kid Make sure you keep your chimney clean all the time. At the very least clean it twice a year. When you clean it out make sure you put the ashes in a steel can with a lid.

  • @1952kid @1952kid Baby Bear does not have a second course of brick. They are a single door stove with one air intake in door. Some Papa Bears do have this upper course, most Mama's do not. It IS however shown on the bluprints of Mama and Papa. Double door stoves are Grandma 20" logs, (across) and Grandpa 24" logs, part of the Fireplace Series. Single door stoves are the Bear Series. More info and operation tips along with manuals at hearth.com, Forum, "Everything Fisher" thread.

  • @BearStoves i just installed the stove, its a mama bear i got my measurements mixed up , it has two air intakes and will take a 24'' log,. with an on the stove thermometer , it seems to heat the beat at 550 to 600 degrees, is this to high , do you know what a normal range would be.

  • @1952kid Thats prob normal, I've never had a thermostat on mine, but it gets very hot

  • @1952kid The correct temp is to keep inside flue temp above 250 all the way up. This is the condensation point where creosote forms. If any portion of stove or heater starts to glow, close air intakes immediately. This is an overfired condition. Manual available free at Hearth.com in Hearth Wiki under Fisher Stoves. That is upper end of normal range. 700 is considered too hot. Mama heats approx. 1500 sf. or "up to 1750 sf" depending on Fisher literature used. (poster, ads, brochure, or manual)

  • is that the mama bear stove that takes 24'' logs ?

  • @1952kid I thought it was a mama bear but it will not take the 24" logs
