the comments about the gearbox of this car are not correct. the high pitched whine the car makes are created by the straight cut sprockets in the gearbox. the advantage here is that the sprockets dont have to be syncronized during the shift and disregards the use of a clutch movement. this cars shifts gears by cutting power to the ignition while it changes gear, so u get a much faster shift time.

Wish people would stop going on about the noise, if there was anything wrong with it, why did all the bmw team schnitzer cars of 95/96 make this noise? If there was anything wrong a factory team would have hardly had it sounding like that!! And as the people in the know are saying its 100% the diff and sequential hollinger gearbox.

The noise is 100 percent the dogbox (straight-tooth). For normal cars, the only "straight-tooth" gear is reverse, this is why if you give the car gas in reverse, you will hear a similar noise...

The straight tooth gears are less prone to slipping and can be abused significently more then standard slant-toothed gears. Personally, driving a car with a dogbox is simply thrilling...by far my FAVORITE car sound...

This is the sound of a new dogbox which hasn't weared enough yet.

The pair of meshing gears have too small tolerances, that's probably why it cracks aswell as the gears don't mesh properly.

Could be something different aswell, but it sure sounds like it.

The sound created by the compressor surge of a supercharger is dependant on engine RPM, not on speed.

This is clearly a straight-cut dogbox transmission what you hear.

STW stands for "super touren wagen" in german, so this car must be atmospheric, with secuential gearbox an d the biggest brakes seen in a touring car :D . 320-240 hp, more or less.
