Thanks for posting this. Late 70s, used to listen to this album just before heading out to gig with my friends in the dive bars of Phoenix--always hoped it would help to "Make the Music Magic".
I remember being in field exercises as a soldier in Germany in the early 80's and the AFRTS dj played this whole album...where I was one of maybe three out of 300 that heard of BeBop Deluxe, imagine my surprise when this comes to me over the airwaves like an old friend offering up a cocktail and a handshake....very good memory!!
First heard this song on WNEW 102.7 when it was a real rock station. They actually used to play the whole first side of Modern Music. Something about that medley that captivated me to the point of no return.
This was truly a gem of the times, really had to hunt down a copy of it on CD,seen them play this release in it's entirety, they opened up for Blur Oyster Cult, awww those were the days when real musicians perfected their craft...
Alert! ITV Legends TV show, featuring Bill Nelson, 26 March, Metropolis Studios, London. Full band, Be Bop Deluxe songs, recorded live for a DVD release, once in a lifetime show.
One of my first albums. Sitting in my room, playing this over and over, hearing my parents fight and turning it up. I imagined growing up and falling in love for the first time...thanks for posting!
turned on to this album by my bud Mike Kozak's brother Tim... thanks for the intro brothers.. Bill and band rocked my world for many a day.. to include this one.. thanks for posting.. MIck Maag.
First rock album i ever bought after seeing them on the old grey whistle test. Their performance had me hot footing it to the old Virgin records in Manchester and listening to the album on the padded headphones before buying it and playing it to death. Now the cd has regular airings. Still sounds as fresh and vibrant as it did then. A criminally under rated band, Thanks a million Bill and co for your wonderful inspirational intelligent music x
one of my favorite albums back in the college days in the 80's bill nelson rocks....this band deserved a lot more recognition..great stuff a lost classic album
this was my first exposure to Be Bop Deluxe, this album blew me away, its still one of my favorite gems,Kiss Of Light,Orphans Of Babylon, the Modern Music suite are fuckin amazing, great guitar tones and amazing musicianship, sad they werent bigger
I first saw BeBop in 1975 ish? when they opened for Heart. By the time they were done with their set no one wanted to see Heart anymore. Modern Music had just been released and they did the whole album. I had never heard of them prior to that, but became in instant lifelong fan.
one of my fav albums of all time

'when those steel guitars begin to play'- this is music that is as necessary to the soul as air is to the body.

Its a shame that EMI not pay Bill royalty for all BBD records at all.
So if some of you who works for EMI read this, SHIT IN YOUR PANTS :(
