As a sidebar, there is a funny comment in Phil Lesh's book - Searching for the Sound. Apparently, Jerry received an accordion as a present as his first musical instrument. Thankfully, Jerry convinced the giver to have it exchanged for a guitar. Phil muses - wonders what would have happened had Jerry kept that accordion.
I was there too sitting in the first row, after buying my ticket from the black market for more than 150 DM , and followed them to Hamburg and france and a year later to washington................... thanx for sharing
I was there too. It was so funny to see some of the German journalists in total awe at the hippie tribe that had flown in from the states in a couple of planes and blast the roof off of the conference center. These guys had obviously never been to a dead show before and those two nights were particularly wild. I think they suddenly understood what the hype was all about all the previous years they had heard about the legendary grateful dead
@longlivejerryg I think that was the place where the journalists were in booths up above the stadium, like in the roof...I remember looking up after the show and seeing the looks on their faces, they were dumbstruck! Like they'd never experienced anything like it.
my first dead show one of the best days of my life, i still need a miracle every day. where can you find this kinda of atmosphere theses days , no where
I was at this show too! Cool venue, lots of room for stashing a backpack in front of you, a little writing surface with a desk light, and headphone jacks for listneing to translations of political speeches...the hall had been used for some kind of political conferences....The juxtoposition of crazy hippy energy, and the grey post commie vibe in Berlin made for some special shows!
I was there at shoreline for this song a few weeks before in the 3rd row !! Love it!!

Does anyone know who was on the Accordion?
