dude PSP runs NES and much more in perfect speed with save state feature + much much more. use "NesterJ" and make sure your CPU clock is set to 333Mhz or use FCEUltra which doesnt have a graphical interface and is not as easy to use.
or use FCEUltra on the PS2 it runs NES as a charm in beatiful quality.
I would recommend the Gameboy Color based upon your criteria. The GBA might be a better choice for something newer, several of the models are pretty cheap and backwards compatible.
Many NES Clones have the problem of not displaying colors correctly. This can be extra bad when they are low on batteries. There is no tint option on the Hyperkin FC Mobile... Uhhhh determining how to best play the game on a handheld was the point... If I did not show how the Hyperkin messed up colors I would not have been doing due diligence.

There was a website that sold it but I think they only sell the Wiz now. I bought mine on e-bay years ago.

i'm not sure what to get. i want a small portable game system, not too complicated, fun, lightweight (not toooo heavy :D)
one from the 1980s-1990s maybe, something around that.
