Yeah man your not the only one I know how you feel. It sucks I have the same book and everything. I went to the office about 3 times and I been getting a 22,35 and 39 and I needed a 50 for the Air Force. It use to be 36 but they raise it because of the overmanning. It's a new year now and I would like to start it off by passing this test.

99 on the practice, and a 96 on the real thing. All you have to do is study. I could gloat, but I'm not perfect. Sure I was smart, but I had to lose 50 lbs. All it takes is the determination to do what you want to do. I sure as hell didn't think I was going to go from 225 to 180, but a little heart goes a long way.
in the classroom but everyone has that one subject which they hate. guys if u got at least a 21 on ACTs (my school didnt take SATs) and know how to speak in a professional manner then the asvab will be cake. there r parts on there like autoshop, mechanics, electricity, that everyday people dont know about(im one of those people) so dont feel bad if u dont know that stuff. they mainly get your scores from math, reading comprehension,vocabulary, and science sections. dont let people fool u. its

I took the ASVAB two times and flunked it. I made an overall score of 30. I made a 87 in mechanics and a 90 in Electronics. Everything else was in the 20s. I think the military should look on what your good at and get you that job instead of looking at overall scores.

i took the practice test and scored 0.453333333333... so i pluged that in and got the percent, i got 111 right out of 225 i think and it got 49% so i can choose the best career i can :D

First they give you a "CAT-ASVAB" test, this test is a small short paper version of the actual asvab, it is used to help the recruiters not wast time with people that cant pass the cat because they figure if you cant pass a fraction of the asvab then you cant pass the full asvab either so no sense in wasting time sending you there.
Only 4 areas of the ASVAB are counted to create the AFQT score.
They are Arithmetic, reasoning math knowledge, word knowledge, and paragraph comprehension.
The rest are job specific areas that you can qualify for but are not counted to create your AFQT score.
The total score of these areas are compared to a computer statistic of everyone that has taken the asvab and that gives them the AFQT percentage score.
I think the current average they go by is the 2002 average.

I know how you feel. The first time i took the ASVAB was with my recruiter just to see how it was and i scored a 11, that sucks!. I just took the ASVAB today the second time and i got a 17. i don't know what i did wrong? I have been studying the ASVAB for dummies everyday. I"m taking the ASVAB in june for my 3rd time and i have to score 50 or higher before my recruiter can take me to MEPS to take the real ASVAB test. Been studying like crazy! my 10 year old sister passed the test i made her take it and she got a 72. how did you get that low? i got a 97 my first time without studying. did you forget what 7-2 was?
yea im there too. i took the paper version of the asvab for the Air Force and i got a 38. A 50 is needed for the AFQT. I studied a little more and got a 38 on the computer version. i scored high in mechanics which is what i wanna do, i even passed math with a 50. it was word comprehension that i did bad on, i believe i got a 40.
i failed my first test with a 29<bought the new asvab for dummies 3rd edition comes with the CD for test and flash cards its great!! also bought the AFQT for dummies..good luck
21 :( don't blame yourself too much your school district needs an upgrade. you need to take remedial classes in Eng and Math mostly. The electronics and Mechanical part is pretty much knowledge based, you have a better chance acquiring the information prior for these sections. However the math and reading will take more intensive in depth practice. Stay away from the Asvab for about a year or two, read + math all day and all night. get a patient tutor for 1 on 1.Time your self on practice tests

The thing about the ASVAB is that it tests such a broad range of topics (automotive tech to English) that there will be at least one area (hopefully) in which your real-world experience will help you (but many more than will perplex you). Too many applicants jump right into the test without studying. Go to a bookstore, grab an ASVAB prep book and spend a half day doing some practice problems. Try to simulate an entire test before taking it; maybe your recruiter will let you do it.
i even had a few teacher give up on me...saying "how did you make it this far without mastering basic algebra ?"
but make sure your confident before you take the real test because if you fail you got to wait like 3 or 6 months i heard before you can retake it....which is a bitch because how do you hold interest during those months ?

lol you think the ASVAB's hard, wait till you get to MEPS. I got a 60 on the ASVAB and completed MEPS on Jan 14, leaving for Benning on valentines day can't wait. You'll be alright just keep at it and try to stay in running shape for the drills.

Going for the Navy 1st test was a 38 without studying, 2nd test was a 48 with studying...2 more goddam points but i couldnt get it!...Was really hoping for Navy Aircrew..dnt really want to take the test again, so i decide to talk to a army recruiter about the aircrew job. Hope i get in.

I failed my ASVAB test about 30 days ago got a 19...I was disappointed in myself even though I study on my weakest areas I still got a horrible score. My guess is that I was rushing it.

Questions do they allow calculator's when taking the asvab test, and how much questions did they give you, and was it done on paper or did you use a computer and how long did they give you to complete the test and whats the pass mark?

questions there is a total of 144 questions over 9 different subtest the one you need to study will be Math Knowledge, Word Knowledge, Aurthmatic Reasoning, and Pargraph compinhension. When you go to MEPS you take the computer version each subtest is timed.
Depends what branch you want to go for I know to enlist in the Army is a 31 and Marines 32.
i didnt pass my two asvab for the army i scored low in my first test it was an 30 just bearly there for my paper test and my second one was on computer version was a 25 so my best bet is to retake it again on the paper version i retake it again in feb 11th of next year but i'm not rushing to retake it cause i'm not as ready as though i want to enlist i dont want to rush on it and wait for a whole year wish me luck
the thing that pisses me off is that some recruiters are some A ...right now they dont give a fuck about how many people they sign up...every military branch has reached their recruiting goal .. its over fucking packed thats why its taking for 6 to 8 months for a poolee to get sent to bootcamp---basic training and shit.......but i finally met a good recrutier thats helping me out in the asvab and he explained me about how the good and badd shit that goes on in the military...
Don't be discouraged, you can do it. You shouldn't need to study for the ASVAB, you need a technical, mechanical, and practical mind to score high.

Some advice: Take school seriously, check out KhanAcademy here on YT if you aren't very efficient in math, and believe that you can do whatever you put your mind to.
You'd be surprised how effective that last one is.

It takes courage to admit your flaws... Just remember that the ASVAB isn't about how smart you are, its a test about your capacity to learn. The ASVAB for dummies book is pretty good btw. Also here is a tip, if you can't figure out the answers by doing a question, try to find what multiple choice answer does not fit the question. You can usually eliminate one or two of the multiple choices this way. Good luck.

First they give you a "CAT-ASVAB" test, this test is a small short paper version of the actual asvab, it is used to help the recruiters not wast time with people that cant pass the cat because they figure if you cant pass a fraction of the asvab then you cant pass the full asvab either so no sense in wasting time sending you there.

Only 4 areas of the ASVAB are counted to create the AFQT score.
They are Arithmetic, reasoning math knowledge, word knowledge, and paragraph comprehension.
The rest are job specific areas that you can qualify for but are not counted to create your AFQT score.
The total score of these areas are compared to a computer statistic of everyone that has taken the asvab and that gives them the AFQT percentage score.
I think the current average they go by is the 2002 average.

I know how you feel. The first time i took the ASVAB was with my recruiter just to see how it was and i scored a 11, that sucks!. I just took the ASVAB today the second time and i got a 17. i don't know what i did wrong? I have been studying the ASVAB for dummies everyday. I"m taking the ASVAB in june for my 3rd time and i have to score 50 or higher before my recruiter can take me to MEPS to take the real ASVAB test. Been studying like crazy! Going for the MARINE CORPS!!!! OORAH!!!

yea im there too. i took the paper version of the asvab for the Air Force and i got a 38. A 50 is needed for the AFQT. I studied a little more and got a 38 on the computer version. i scored high in mechanics which is what i wanna do, i even passed math with a 50. it was word comprehension that i did bad on, i believe i got a 40.

21 :( don't blame yourself too much your school district needs an upgrade. you need to take remedial classes in Eng and Math mostly. The electronics and Mechanical part is pretty much knowledge based, you have a better chance acquiring the information prior for these sections. However the math and reading will take more intensive in depth practice. Stay away from the Asvab for about a year or two, read + math all day and all night. get a patient tutor for 1 on 1.Time your self on practice tests

The thing about the ASVAB is that it tests such a broad range of topics (automotive tech to English) that there will be at least one area (hopefully) in which your real-world experience will help you (but many more than will perplex you). Too many applicants jump right into the test without studying. Go to a bookstore, grab an ASVAB prep book and spend a half day doing some practice problems. Try to simulate an entire test before taking it; maybe your recruiter will let you do it.

i believe i'm working on a 5th grade math level....like it's easy when somebody walks me threw a problem but on my own...i just forget all the steps!
and word problems are a bitch!
but every other subject in school i kept a B in...math was always a low C

but make sure your confident before you take the real test because if you fail you got to wait like 3 or 6 months i heard before you can retake it....which is a bitch because how do you hold interest during those months ?

Going for the Navy 1st test was a 38 without studying, 2nd test was a 48 with studying...2 more goddam points but i couldnt get it!...Was really hoping for Navy Aircrew..dnt really want to take the test again, so i decide to talk to a army recruiter about the aircrew job. Hope i get in.

I failed my ASVAB test about 30 days ago got a 19...I was disappointed in myself even though I study on my weakest areas I still got a horrible score. My guess is that I was rushing it.

Questions do they allow calculator's when taking the asvab test, and how much questions did they give you, and was it done on paper or did you use a computer and how long did they give you to complete the test and whats the pass mark?

@mekeino No calculators allowed when taking the ASVAB as for the
questions there is a total of 144 questions over 9 different subtest the one you need to study will be Math Knowledge, Word Knowledge, Aurthmatic Reasoning, and Pargraph compinhension. When you go to MEPS you take the computer version each subtest is timed.
Depends what branch you want to go for I know to enlist in the Army is a 31 and Marines 32.

i didnt pass my two asvab for the army i scored low in my first test it was an 30 just bearly there for my paper test and my second one was on computer version was a 25 so my best bet is to retake it again on the paper version i retake it again in feb 11th of next year but i'm not rushing to retake it cause i'm not as ready as though i want to enlist i dont want to rush on it and wait for a whole year wish me luck

the thing that pisses me off is that some recruiters are some A ...right now they dont give a fuck about how many people they sign up...every military branch has reached their recruiting goal .. its over fucking packed thats why its taking for 6 to 8 months for a poolee to get sent to bootcamp---basic training and shit.......but i finally met a good recrutier thats helping me out in the asvab and he explained me about how the good and badd shit that goes on in the military...

Don't be discouraged, you can do it. You shouldn't need to study for the ASVAB, you need a technical, mechanical, and practical mind to score high.
I'm an A-Type, I literally can't get anything less than 110 on mine.

Some advice: Take school seriously, check out KhanAcademy here on YT if you aren't very efficient in math, and believe that you can do whatever you put your mind to.
You'd be surprised how effective that last one is.

It takes courage to admit your flaws... Just remember that the ASVAB isn't about how smart you are, its a test about your capacity to learn. The ASVAB for dummies book is pretty good btw. Also here is a tip, if you can't figure out the answers by doing a question, try to find what multiple choice answer does not fit the question. You can usually eliminate one or two of the multiple choices this way. Good luck.
