George has no idea about how election fraud occurs in Iran. There was no vote counting at all. Everyone in Iran says they voted for Mousavi, including many poor and countryside people. Ahmadinejad at most got 11-15 million votes if the votes were counted. But they did not so. There are frauds all over the results, even in official documents published, there were negative number of votes and boxes with votes of multiple of 100s. Government removed the links for the documents after only few days.
Above all, the government always could bring masses for the show of support for the leader and government always after such sagas, e.g. 1999 dormitory incident. But this time, it was the other way around. Qalibaf, a conservative estimated 3 million supporters of Mousavi were on the streets on 25th of June, despite all the risks and the fact that the demonstrtion was cancelled. On the other side there was no comparable show of support at all. Even Friday prayers was a very small fraction of it.
Please bear in mind, Tehran is not all Western minded and has a great portion of masses there. The talk about countryside is also absurd. More than 65% of Iranians live in cities above 100,000 population. So the country is quite an urban population. Also Ahmadinejad has lost his popularity among the countryside too because of his poor character in the debates. Mark my words for the shoes being thrown at him next time he goes on a trip to countryside in Iran.

Anyhow, I might be living in the West now. But I am from a poor family in South Tehran and have many relatives in the country side. Also as for AlGor election, people could protest no problems at all. The difference of votes were so little. Here we are talking about huge fraud, not in one million or two. At least 10 million or so.
That is exactly why they do not give permission to Mousavi supporters to rally. Because even without permit they have been able to hold millions of demonstrators, e.g. Friday prayer yesterday whereas Ahmadinejad can hardly manage 100,000 anywhere anytime.

George has no idea about how election fraud occurs in Iran. There was no vote counting at all. Everyone in Iran says they voted for Mousavi, including many poor and countryside people. Ahmadinejad at most got 11-15 million votes if the votes were counted. But they did not so. There are frauds all over the results, even in official documents published, there were negative number of votes and boxes with votes of multiple of 100s. Government removed the links for the documents after only few days.

Above all, the government always could bring masses for the show of support for the leader and government always after such sagas, e.g. 1999 dormitory incident. But this time, it was the other way around. Qalibaf, a conservative estimated 3 million supporters of Mousavi were on the streets on 25th of June, despite all the risks and the fact that the demonstrtion was cancelled. On the other side there was no comparable show of support at all. Even Friday prayers was a very small fraction of it.

More than 65% of Iranians live in cities above 100,000 population. So the country is quite an urban population. Also Ahmadinejad has lost his popularity among the countryside too because of his poor character in the debates. The government could but didnt becuase: No permit was issued for Mousavi fans to protest and hence no permit could be issued for Ahmadinejad fans either; still on the iranian mother's day: hundred of thousands (if no millions) of Ahmadinejad fans filled the street...
The friday prayer was very popular with massive presence of people, but due t the reason mentioned before only a fraction of them rallied in favor of Ahmadinejad.

Yes Press TV is an Iranian station, but so is the BBC( a government funded operation). And yet the BBC can put out there pro Iranian opposition bias out to the public without real criticism. Yes there is a difference in degree on the final say, but neither country has a direct vote. Also Sweden it very different than Iran. I believe the only reason why western democracy works well over there is because they have a smaller population than Iran, and it's more localized than a big nation like Iran. That my personal view on the matter. Why do people compare there countries government to others? I still don't get that.

Democracy does necessarily mean freedom either. Hell even Hitler was elected. That's why I said they are different types. One type of democracy may not be good for some people. You can also say that Communist china is a sort of democracy too. You also talk about the supreme leader getting the final word. Did you know in the US that we have an electoral college? That the electoral college gets the final say on who won an election here in the US. So no real difference there.

Almost every time I look at a newspaper someone was beaten by the cops. Did you see the DNC and RNC convention protests here on You Tube? There is video of police beating demonstrators. Galloway's constituency was abolished.That's one reason. However, why this constituency? Why this MP? Why not fight for a seat in Scotland?

Hi - parliamentary elections are usually every 4-5 years. Last General Election was in 2005 so next one will probably be in 2010. He's not standing but i think he's looking for another constituency. Also, Galloway has great success in court cases against him...if charged he'd be successful!
