  • This is one of my favorite scenes from the Wizard Of Oz. Glinda dropping down in Emerald City is so flawlessly composed in the editing here. You get the real scope of her grandness and the captivating colors of green with the pink in her costume is pure art. The attention to detail and the seamless editing, as well as the perfect musical interlude for Glinda was supurb and really created a magical aura. I'm still amazed by this section of the film every time I see it.

  • Hi everyone :) i am at university studying graphic design and i have chosen to do a brief on the wizard of oz. I am going to be producing typographical posters to bring back this classic film and give it life once again so that people want to watch the film. It would be a great help to get some feedback on what people remember about this classic film or any other thoughts would be much appreciated :) thanks Hayley. If you could PM me that would be even better.

  • Haha , what a stoner movie

  • I seriously cannot believe this movie had to be ruined by that "The Witches of Oz" bullcrap! not saying this because I'm a nostalgitard I'm saying this because of how they just had to make some lame sequel that was an overuse story! >.>

  • The scare crow had a piont, Why did they make them go all the to fight the witch near death to figure out that she can go home all along? What the Frick? It's like telling someone, "Oh in order to get your keys out of the car was by blowing up the car." And then find out that the keys were in you pocket. God!

  • @Eagleboyhoove well, its good anyway because she saved the Scarecrow, the Tin man and the Lion and killed the 2 Wicked Witches. if it wasn't for her they'd all be screwed over! lol

  • @Eagleboyhoove Sometimes in life we help people by being a guide from a distance in order to enable others, and sometimes love ones, to find things out in life for themselves. Often this helps an individual to find their own selfhood and empowers them as a person. I think that is indeed what Glinda did for Dorothy here.

  • I always got teary eyed when Dorothy said goodbye to her three friends.

  • totally cute

  • so Be kind and nice with me and I will be with you

  • this story will always have a spark for me whenever i watch it. it's just beautiful, unlike any other nowadays.

  • This witch of the MILFS. haha

  • mute this shit, put on dark side of the moon

  • i love the mad tv version

  • hmz I`m a cute and sesy girl with a nice personality kiss

  • haha when I first saw the part of "you wouldn't have believed me", I was like "BITCH! Well, try me!"

  • wouldnt the good witch explode if her bubble gets popped

  • i love the wizard of oz

  • uhhhh!!! that is really annoying me cause that little girl is playing innocent

  • I never did quite get the sense of the line, "Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with" Poor writing?

  • @gabsylv I think she's saying you can't miss what you never had, and what she never had was a need to go anywhere beyond her own home and family to find happiness.

  • glinda is satanic

  • well This is A Fake Movie so... Movie couple hrs. long.... if glinda told dorthy how to go back 30. mins long.... movie = HOURS!

  • i think that the reason glinda didnt tell dorothy sooner was because she really DID need to find it out 4 herself. Because the magic of the slippers wouldnt work unless she really believed that theres no place like home.

  • I tell you, after reading Wicked, I have a whole other point of view on these characters.

  • back when Hollywood used to make great movies without promoting violence, sex, drugs and swearing. I dont mind watching those type of movies but its a shame thats what Hollywood needs now in order for them to entertain the audience.

  • @Godsgreatestgift1000 Yeah they think without that stuff it would be boring but there's nothing wrong with some modern movies.

  • @Godsgreatestgift1000

    How about Pixar?

  • After seeing Wicked I can't help but feel bad at this scene haha and I see the Tinman and I'm like BOQ and then the scarecrow FIYERO, completely changed this film for me.

  • I saw the trailer to Horrible Bosses yesterday. What happened to Hollywood's great films like this? When you USED to have a great storyline, instead of cheap throwaway jokes.

  • @Disneygirl3715 They still make them every once in a while... but it's a little harder to find them in the endless flood of garbage they release faster and with less effort with every year.

But if you're looking for them, you can find the movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Spirited Away, Gran Torino, and A Beautiful Mind.

  • @bobdonda Thanks, I'll have to check those titles out.

  • aww, such a cute scene^^

  • I have to agree with others here that Glenda coming down was perfect film art. It was grand and magical all at once and has definitely stood the test of time. This is indeed the real test of the power of good art.

  • dorothy saw glinda come down to muchkinland in a huge pick bubble. and the witch didnt think she would believe that she could get home by clicking heals

  • WHAT. TWO SECONDS?

  • The original problem was not that the teacher was taking away her dog but that she felt that she needed to run away from her problems becuase no one cared about her enough to help her.

  • 1:04

  • This film will always make me cry, It just brings back so many memories, Judy Garland, you are beautiful<3

  • I finally realized, after watching this movie my whole life, that the ending doesn't explain or address the original problem, which was, the evil teacher was taking away her dog!

  • @lhcarter I realized that too. However, in some musical adaptations of the movie like national tours, high school and regional productions Uncle Henry and Aunt Em tell Dorothy that during the twister and telephone pole landed on Miss Gulch.

  • @lhcarter I meant A telephone pole.

  • "Inserción desactivada por solicitud"... por eso te va el pulgar hacia abajo ¬¬

  • hahahaa xavierbot ur so funny and since when did u find that out

  • when I was a kid I had such a crush on dorothy and the good witch I spent years trying to meet her until I learned she was dead

  • @ThePhychoHero i really do know what you mean, she has killed both of the witches, why would she want to go home when that awful Miss Gulch is still there alive. Btw guys, i really adore this film, it's just a question:/, best film ever, rest in peace judy<3<3<3

  • symbolism to returning to a metals starndard is epic now that I know what to look for in the dialogue and the colors.

  • I want to know why she didn't stay! I understand she wished to see her family, but seriously! Who in their right mind would choose the sandy, humdrum world of Kansas over Oz?!

  • @ThePhychoHero Because Oz wasnt real. It was the green city (dollar bills). To get back to where she needed to be she needed 2 pieces of silver to rub together. In the book the slippers were silver, not ruby. Yellow brick road obviously represents gold.

  • @lilbromarky1 -_- I know Oz isn't real, it was a joke sherlock

  • "You've always had the power to go back to Kansas.."

"Holy Shit! I didn't knew i had teleporting powers!, Tell me the magic words Witch!"

    XD

  • Hnw€ Jhelum

  • lol she has an orgasm at the end of this video

  • I adore this scene. Judy Garland is just radiant in it. The score is perfect. It's just wonderful.

  • So she basically sent her on a mission to kill the WWotW? And she's the good witch....

  • the good wich is my friends grate grate aunt

  • @poopas88 then you need to open your eyes because the Lady Gaga is beautiful!

    just my opinion. KISSES!!

  • Glinda is a bitch

  • My mom sometimes asks me what I learned in school that day and next time she does I'm going to reply with this.

  • I can look at this clip - and the rest of the movie that goes with it - and always want to see it again. BTW - Can you imagine this film with Shirley Temple as Dorothy (the original casting). OY!!

  • <3 <3 <3

  • they should have used the Lady Gaga to play the good witch glenda. thumbs up if you agree!! actually she should have played glenda the good witch and dorthy, then this movie would have been a hit for sure!! just my opinion. KISSES!!

  • who wants tim burton to re-make this film :)

  • @robertandshana1 absolutely!! and with johnny depp playing the role of dorthy!! no, i take that back, the Lady Gaga playing dorthy and the good witch glenda and johnny depp playing the wizard. just my opinion. KISSES!!

  • @robertandshana1 why ruin a classic?

  • Let's see...

Dorothy wears the same shoe size as the witch of the east

Her house lands on the witch yet fails to come in contact with even a hair of any munchkin

"give me back my slippers. I'm the only one that knows how to use them..." is a weird comment because how do you "use" slippers?

witch says "Did you bring your broomstick" and Dorothy says "No" is totally insane also...her whole house is there! Why doesn't Dorothy just go into the kitchen and look for a broom.

  • @Klinkster68 not only that but glinda doesn't even use a broom. so why is she asking if dorothy's got one?

  • Comment removed

  • Who can say if I've been changed for the better......

Every single time I see Glinda anywhere. :(

  • @Sareth740 yay, you're on my side

I cringe everytime I think about this movie

  • I like madtv alternative ending lol

  • Isn't it obvious the message ? Dreams cause depression, heartache and fear. Why do you think everyone is clinically "depressed" these days? Dreams are Lies and nothing built upon a lie can stand - its physics. Your happiness from within not from without. The United States is the American Dream. It IS the Wicked Witch of the West.

  • -you always had the power to go back home!

    -... EXCUSE ME?!

  • @mapdark

Scarecrow: "Why didn't you just tell her before?"

Glenda: "Because she wouldn't have believed me."

Dorthy: "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR ****ING MIND?! You came down in a big bubble! I would have believed anything you told me! If you told me to lick the Lollipop Guild, I would have done it!

  • @nukewarfare2 that was funny as hell

  • @nukewarfare2 funny joke, and I think you know the real meaning. Not that she could return home by saying theres no place like home, but to believe that there is actually no place like home. : ) but then again you probably know that already.

  • @nukewarfare2 Remember, she had to learn it for herself!

  • @mapdark Hollywood.

  • @mapdark This means that backdoor copulation--butt-fucking--prevents overpopulation; heart is code for earth. The earth's desire is that moron humans have no more kids on this overcrowded planet. Dorothy's heart's desire is in her own backyard. The proof is in the pudding-no sex acts in this movie. No place like home-no pals like homos; they don't have kids. FBI Director Jay Edgar Hoover cross-dressed and pretended to be homo - no more kids.

  • This just breaks me up....I'd rust if I was the Tinman, and my tail would be wet if I was the Lion. Blessings, Always, to All.

  • This just breaks me up....I'd rust if I was the Tinman, and my tail would be wet if I was the Lion. Blessings, Always, to All

  • Much as I love this movie, the "lessons" always struck me as backwards. Basically, Glinda's insinuating Dorothy (and us) should be content with the farm on the prairie and never hit the road in search of adventure or change. And when the Wizard tells the Tin Man that the heart is judged not by how much we love, but how much we are loved by others--well, that seems backwards, too. Because the purest heart would be one that loves others even when getting nothing in return.

  • @SirWilly77 i have to say i agree with you there :) especially the bit about the tinman. Seems kind of selfish

  • I don't know why Glinda is called a witch, she doesn't even look like a witch, she looks more like a fairy. I mean how many witches do you know of who have a magic wand???

  • @bookworm266 sounds like Scottish or something lol

  • This movie brings some fond memories of my childhood.

  • Man I would be pist as hell if I was her if she told me that Id Be like what the Fuck what the Fuck!

  • one of my fave movie scenes ever

  • "Youve always had the power to go back to kansas"

    "Excuse me......"

  • My fav movie!!!!! :P

  • the scarecrow & glinda had it going on(:

haha. ill seriously NEVER see the wizard of oz the same way again.

  • whatever you do, don't watch the play Wicked.

  • @jamalam17z7 why? i liked it...

  • Rafehatesu the name of the original book is The WOnderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum. He wrote 14 Oz books in his life between 1900 and 1919 when he died. Then a lady nmed Ruth Plumly Thompson was made the official writer of oz. There have been many and continue to this day to be books written about Oz.

  • Dorothy thought that running away from home would take her to a better place, but she had to learn that this was not true. That the real happiness was there if she took a good look.

If she just went home without the experience, or learning this for herself, she wouldn't have learned this lesson

The Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow were asking for things that they had inside of themselves when the situation called for it.

  • What accent does Glinda have?

  • @bookworm266

it's an english accent because BIllie Burke who played Glinda went to London and was in theatre over there. She was born in Washington DC in 1885 but her dad was a clown for barnum and bailey so they traveled a lot in Europe. So she got the accent from living in London and being there in theatre which even in the US at that time people in theatre spoke with an english accent.

  • @Ltrain44. Thank you so much! i just couldn't place her accent at all.

  • Scarecrow: "But that's so easy! I should've thought of it for you!"

Tin Man: "I should have felt it in my heart!"

    Cowardly Lion: "........"

  • Love that movie

  • psychedelic shit..

  • In the book, it made more sense for Glinda to tell Dorothy she could go back whenever she wanted to, since it was the first time Dorothy saw Glinda. Dorothy was welcomed in the beginning by another witch, instead of Glinda.

It the movie, she sees Glinda in the beginning already, so why couldn't Glinda just tell her already!

  • @SuperFeeling WHATS THE NAME OF THE ORIGINAL WIZARD OF OZ BOOK?

  • @RafaHatesU The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

  • So what's the moral of the story?

  • @cyReesyPeace

    Witches are bitches.

  • "Why didn't you tell her before?"

"Because I wanted her to do my dirty work and kill those two witches."

  • It just comes naturally to me to have a pathetic adoring look whenever the bubble turns into Glinda. Soppy is enjoyable most of the time, but just not in front of people who are younger than me because I don't want them to see me be a sissy. Feline-style soppiness is the best: lying down whenever you feel like it and stretching and purring and rolling around as if there was catnip and the way people fawn on them, but cat-soppiness is different from sissy-soppiness.

  • But I've decided now - she can be a fairy godmother to the two witch students (me and a friend of mine who has shared the experience of both places). Like Dumbledore, Glinda only visits on special occasions.

  • I love the music that plays just as the pink bubble turns into Glinda, it's very tender. In fact the music in this video is just gorgeous all round. Glinda is in my magical school/college role-play, though I'm not sure why she worked in my college and old school since she is not a member of staff.

  • This part until the end of the film always brings tears to my eyes:') because i love this film so much i dont want it to end:)

This film + Gone With The WInd have to be the greatest films EVER made:'):')

  • If I was Dorothy, my English teacher Amanda would be Auntie Em and Glinda because she is warm and kind and gentle and beautiful, and the inspector who observed our class would be the two bad witches and Miss Gulch because she was mean to Amanda at the end of the lesson. Although in the film it was Dorothy that the bad witches wanted to attack, not Glinda or Auntie Em.

  • agreed!;)

  • Greatist film of all time :)

  • Now thiis is how dorothy should have reacted;

    /watch?v=6exm2Hi28Xw&feature=related

  • Hard to believe this was filmed in 1939!

  • @sega31098 It is even harder to believe liberals had many of the same ideas back then as they do today.

  • Glinda is very wise and gentle. =)

  • Strange.... Why disney isn't considering a kick-ass remake ?

  • TOTO HAS FALSE TEETH :D

  • The "Ga" is silent.

Ha, I love the Wizard of Oz, and I'm also a huge Wicked fan.

When I was a little girl, I always thought Billie Burke was so pretty.

  • I <3 Glinda and her bubble ^_^

  • @tths667 you can get a converter at tubemusicdownload com

  • @ongshihui123

then please go and watch the musical wicked. it will give u a totally dif. oppinion about the "wicked witch", that she isn´t that wicked. and glinda not that good.

and jeah. i love elphaba - the wicked witch of the west.

  • is it the wicked witch from the north and south is good but the wicked witch from the east and west is bad.

  • yeah. from the movie site u see it that way. but if u go see "wicked" you´ll see that not all bad ones are as bad as u see them or think they are. ^^;

    so go watch it.

  • ok...

  • Trust that sugar-plum fairy to float in all and spice and kittens. She takes all the credit because shes perfect, fluffy, mumsy and looks like shes the love child of Bert and Mary poppins. Looks go for everything as shes hardly the eco warrior that Epheba is, trying to stop the slashing and hacking of the winged monkeys habitat as they build that Emerald City. Glinda would probably say sod those winged freaks I want my prada and latte! Did you know her outfits made from Munchkin hide?

  • I love this movie !!♥

Add me if you love it too!

  • @paulmccartney7ElvisP -me too.

  • (L) doroty

  • Weird how Billie Burke (Glinda) was 54 years old when this movie was made...she looks so young! She was a broadway actress in the early 1900s.

  • this scene has a totally different meaning once you've seen wicked. and you know that glinda KICKS the wizard out of oz...

  • i love wicked

  • one of my favorite movies

  • we represent the lollypop tree, the lolly pop tre the munchkin was made funny.

    gamagan1

  • Toto is the same dog as mine wtf!?

  • slide some oil to me hit my sholder blades if you dont and stp crisco will do just find. the play was also awsome.

    gamagan1

  • Witch:

"You don't need to be helped any longer. You've always had the power to go back to Kansas"

    Scarecrow:

"Why didn't you tell her before?"

    Witch:

"Because the movie has to be 2 hours long. If I told her back then, it would just be 20 minutes..."

  • @Klinkster68 lol!

  • ok - this has alway stunned me - this is known as one of the best movies of all time - and this is the "big scene" - and she sells it well - BUT... if you listen carefully to her... she sold us a tearful line of absolute meaningless bullshit! Dont take my word for it... listen to it yourself...

"cuz if it isnt there... I never really lost it in the first place."

Now... think that through - really think it through... If you really analyze that you will see she sold us a line of shit

  • No-it's not meaningless...what she is saying in her round-about way is that if she ever has to look for the things that make her happy (her heart's desire)...she only has to look as far as her own back -yard. We get the most satisfaction in this world from our families and loved ones. What makes you happy is your family, your home and your sense of belonging...then look no farther than your own back-yard...because if it's not there...you never lost it to begin with.

  • well you have repeated what she said (only you changed to 2nd person) but it still is meaningless. If you said "because if it is there you never lost it to begin with" that would make sense, but you say 'because if it is not there, you never lost it to begin with" and that has no meaning. Think about it.

  • She says "because if it is not there, you never lost it to begin with" because if it isn't your home and your family (your heart's desire), you can't really be losing much.

  • ok - lets go at it this way... from a gramatical standpoint... how can you lose something thats not there?

  • @enlighten42 "How can you lose something that's not there?" That's what you said. Well isn't she saying, "Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with." ?? She's saying exactly what you just said, you can't lose something you didn't have to begin with. You're playing word games to the point that you completely lost the message of the line. It's a pretty simple concept to understand, really.

  • elighten : you need to change your name to IN DARKNESS and think OUTSIDE the box.

  • I'm 51 years old, and a piano teacher. This part ALWAYS brings my tears ! Something about the music, I think......

As old as I get, this movie will always be #1 on my favorite movie list!

    Thanks for the posting!!

  • Great Part ! Glinda's Hot !

    " There's Know Place Like Home." =KANSAS=

  • im dorothy in a school play

  • wonderful....i'll call the newspapers. lol

  • I just finished reading the book today.

I loved it; it was so awesome.

  • i remember that i played as a lion in elementary school, haha, and the lion in this show look kinda funny

  • When I was a little girl, I WAS Dorothy. I'd skip to school almost every day like Dorothy on the yellow brick road. I was crushed when I read about Judy Garland's tragic life. :(

  • My favourite character in this movie was the wicked witch :)

Loved her since i was a kid!

  • Oh Auntie Em...there's no place like home. :)

  • "Cause she wouldn't have believed me"???!!

I would have punched her right in the face. lol

  • i know, right?

    like shit, you coulda tried!!

  • Wizard of OZ + Darkside of the moon = FTW

  • I always LOVED Glinda 2!!! I'd love to travel by bubble!

"Only BAD witches are UGLY!" <3 Glinda

  • When I was a little girl, I wanted Dorothy to stay in OZ and live with Glinda! I LOVE Glinda!!!
