And they based that on his boxing skills and not his ethnicity. Angelo Dundee, Ferdie Pacheco, Teddy Atlas, Manny Pacquiao, and even Floyd Mayweather jr. think highly of him.

@cstrait Real fighters? Chavez arguably had a padded record but he definitely fought the best fighters of his time. He ended up losing out to the next generation of the best when he took on De La Hoya, back when De La Hoya was still a real boxer and not what he is today. Also "more of a man?" How are you even defining that. He clearly got humiliated by Chavez in the ring in an Ali like "called it" style. His son is a joke but Chavez is comparable to Ray Robinson. Haugen is barely worth knowing.

He was a very brave fighter, with a good chin, none of that running that´s so common nowadays. He was not a white hope, but a reality. He fought the best, Whitaker, camacho, chavez, etc. Whitaker clearly outclassed him but he was never hurt in that fight .
