I for one think that things could have worked out if Portnoy became the drummer of BOTH Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold. Things would have gone like this. Mike takes a 5 year break and works with A7X. Then this cycle happens.

1)Mike stays with DT, tours with them for 3 years while A7X takes a break

2) Mike stays with A7X, tours with them for 2 years while, DT takes a break

3) Mike, DT, and A7X takes a break.

Then thecycle goes on.

As I see, you're on the A7x side, so before you go bad-mouthing people for their comments, I suggest that you look back into 25 years of progressive metal and try to understand other people's feelings of sadness, anger and betrayal.

i got know a7x throurh mike.. and they're awsome, they songs somehow not just some popular heavy stuff, or just some songs with great music but only gurgling voice (like in flames.. sorry no offense their music is awsome too but i hate when the singer doesn't sing only hooks..) so a7x is a really good music i'll look for their older stuff too..

BUT! pleeeease mike go back to dt at least some years later coz dt just can't be dt without it's drummer :(

He's at a point right now where he is just drumming for A7X. They're not looking for a new drummer at the time, obviously because of what happened with the Rev, and Mike is just there to play until they feel comfortable hiring a new full-time replacement for the Rev.

Mike never said he was permanently leaving DT. In fact, he said quite the contrary, that he couldn't imagine not going back to DT sometime in the future. Just...get your facts straight, eh?
