I didn't think I would enjoy this because of the way it started out,but once you give it a minute it is well beyond worth listening to.This is an amazing job,for an amazing piece of work.Great Job Omnia, you did well.
when i heard that a folk band made an interpretation of the raven i thought wtf?!?i mean i would be logical for a doom or gothic band...but when i listened to this version...O_O it's just magic!!!and the vocalist is really hot!! :)
you are wrong my friend. this is a pagan folk band from the Netherlands but yeah this poem cover made them look a bit of gothic cuz the gothic literature and culture influenced alot from Edgar Allen Poe together with H.P lovecraft shakespear Lord Byron and many more old writers and poets its amazing cuz of the fact that all those great men are dead for hundreds of years and yet their art still lives on in this world and continue to impress us. this is the true meaning of being immortal :)
Pagan folk is the music style, Gothic is the type of artist, and even if one thinks that Edgar wrote gothic literature, he did not, his writing style is known as modern terror, but certainly it has a gothic sense as we like. He is a master, and Steve Sic too. =) Jeje
i never said that Poe was gothic i said that the gothic culture influenced alot from poets and writers like Poe. and omnia is a pagan folk band wich made a cover song to Poes poem the raven. and you right he is a master. in 2nd place for me its H.P Lovecraft :)
um, I study English Literature at the University of Antwerp and Edgar Allan Poe is most famous for his third generation Romantic Gothic poems and short stories ... never heard of "modern terror" before. and I'm pretty sure of this because tomorrow is my exam on this topic and i'm studying Poe at this very moment :p

@MasqueradeCircus Edgar Allen Poe was Way before the Goth Fad.... He Is the Master of Goth I would say so. He is above Goth! An author of reality. I agree.........
This has really nothing to do with the Goths and some of it has no correlation with paganism as well. Also, some of the instruments Omnia use were not around in the times the goths were pagan. Some they use weren't even from the goth/pagan continents. It's more just a mish mash of someone's uneducated interpretation of a pagan folk band. Another misconception is of the Goths being so dark. Their art was often bright, golden, and infused with gems.
@rockpop1 And we, in this time period, have adopted and accepted the works of these great authors into our sense of "Gothic" or "Metal", concepts unheard of in these authors' times. :-) These works are so timeless that they can be accepted, literally, time and time again into the culture that is currently 'modern'.
@MasqueradeCircus Pourquoi parler de putain de "gothic' pour qualifier un groupe pareil.. Aussi incroyable.. Y a rien de goth là dedans. Stop dire nimp
@funk55558 Omnia have always been connected with poetry, the vocalist - Steve Sic is poet himself and loves it, so for anybody who's familiar with the band is not a surprise that they do a poetry peace. The also have versions of Lewis Carroll's "Fairytale" and "Jabberwacky", as well as some old peaces like "Odi Et Amo" (you can youtubesurch them all and hear them). About the genre - they are a Pagan Folk band, but they experiment a lot (maybe even more than they should?).
Magical, magical......

I don't think he has a voice and intonation for that poem. His singing of this is very well done though.

A very beatufull song, off course great text (duhh) but also one of the greatest arrangements i've heard for a poem.
