And as for Mcarthur park what the hell i love this song ,he didn't wan't to do it but it still got to no 1

a love song about a lost one--the mixing of love feelings is long, when that love is lost, that cake will never bake again, it takes two long----a deep song---only one who has lost a love can understand
I was very lucky to have met both Richard Harris and Jimmy Webb. Someone asked me yesterday if I was on a desert island and could only bring one piece of music what would it be? I instantly said "MacArthur Park" by Richard Harris - I could listen to it forever. And I believe that Jimmy Webb was only 18 when he wrote both words and music. Genius.
@lesliecunnian Very good choice! No matter how many times you listen, you'll find something new - an overlooked nuance, a hint as to its meaning. MacArthur Park is like a great novel that one reads over and over and always comes away with a little more understanding and a desire to go back for more....
a man's man.like lee marvin and ollie reed. the world's an emptier place without them. and sadly ther's no REAL STARS LEFT TO BOOZE AND BRAWL LIKE THE OLD GUYS DID.
Richard was one of Johnny Carson's favorite and frequent guest on the "Tonight Show" He was talented and a great story teller as well. One of my favorite movies
stars Mr Harris in "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" with Robert Duvall and Shirley
MacLaine......... VHS version only for some reason?
The role of Bull Mc Cabe saved Richard Harris from acting oblivion and should have won him an oscar but he had butted heads with too many big Hollywood players over the years. There is a magnificent life size statue of Harris as King Author in his native city of Limerick where, as is usual for Ireland, opinions about the man differ greatly. Many dislike him for claiming to come from the 'mean streets' of Limerick when his family was, compared to most at the time, very well off. Big deal!
From the bare knuckle streets of Limerick to the sound stages and theatre stages around the world...a class act with one fist and a Bushmills chaser!!!!! Atta boy!!!
My mother passed away when I was 16 and I am now 54..but this Richard Harris song was her most favorite song ever......I had them play it at her funeral....
@Shadi1007 Actually, it was Patrick McGoohan, if I am not mistaken, who was in Gladiator. He was an equally interesting and colourful character, and I believe he was an Irishman, as well. Read about what happened to him when the ending to one of his most popular series, "The Prisoner" was changed, or not to the liking of the series' faithful viewers
Actually it is Richard who plays the old king in Gladiator Patrick McGoohan played the king in Braveheart both great actors but Richard will always hold a special place in my heart
@GEROIDIN You are so RIGHT. I thought that Braveheart was so recent that Richard Harris must have been dead by the time it was made. WRONG! Braveheart was released in 2000, and Richard passed away in 2002, Both events seem like only yesterday. You're right about Braveheart, too. It was Patrick McGoohan. And they were both great actors. Hope Shadi1007 gets to read your comments and disreguards mine.
Adrian, have you ever read the books? They're at a higher intellectual level than many so-called books for adults. The fact that kids are main characters does not mean that they're exclusively for children. As for the "spoilt" comment, I have no idea where that came from, but all I can say is that I enjoyed them both as a child and as an adult, and I am as unspoiled as they come. I had many chores and responsibilities growing up, worked hard, and put myself through college. You're ignorant.
Hail the true dumbledore! Dumbledore really died with Harris after the second film. The HP series truly lost something special with Harris' death, its such a shame.
He was a true great!! Its very rude to argue about who played a better Dumbledore on a tribute website to Richard Harris! Miss you Richard, you were a legend!!
When this song came out I LOVED it, - a child of the 60s. It has no meaning but for the exceptional actor who sang it (adequately at best) - God rest his soul.
He was caught up in the times.
HOWEVER, not including his spectacular career, he was the penultimate Dumbledore, in ALL aspects!!!
I will always respect his genius and his adventure. Not many English actors would have considered the role of a "Man Named Horse."
Take a look at my name and you know i have Irish in me... although i was not born there. Mum English, Dad Irish what a combo. Ive been brought up in England and ive never been to Ireland... but i want to go there some day soon when i get some dam money. He makes me proud... im proud that i have some Irish blood in me. He lived his life the way he wanted and didnt give a shit about what anyone thought and for tht i admire and respect him and the life he lived. RIP SIR Richard Harris
He is missed in the States. His words from Too Mny Saviours on My Cross, have been an inspiration for me, much more than any priest's lecture from the pulpit. So too has his narrative in the photo montage from the Album Slides. He was a character, but one who lived life fully with a heart and mind that never forget his soul. And that for me was the essence of the man. Pat Frost you are lucky man to have such a friend and to be a friend!

stalzz; Thnx for another op to listen to this greatest rendition of Richard Harris' version of 'MacArthur Park'!What a voice! What a real MAN! What Soul in his voice & a gift to us all!
jimmy webb was a great lyrics man, but this needed the voice of richard harris to get the song delivered to your heart. if you listen close to the words, there is a macarthurs park in each of out lives.
jimmy webb, the greatest, but he needed the voice of richard harris to make this song felt. if you look deep you will get YOUR meaning, your macarthur park in you.
I first heard MacArthur Park at least 40 years ago. For me, there was a MacArthur Park, men playing checkers, and a girl in a yellow dress that fell on the ground around her knees. The imagery is overpowering. His face had such character and his personality something else. In one of his last interviews, he was asked if his career had taken off again from playing Dumbledore. His reply, "Oh yes! I am at the pinacle of my decline." He was such a wit, such a man, and I miss not having him around.
@sikorskiS55 Here's another one...just before his death, he was being wheeled away from his hotel where he lived and he yelled " its the food" to people looking at him. What a card!
Never watched a HP movie(true) but I saw his last live interview where he said he only did it 'cos his gddaughter called him saying she would never speak to him EVER again if he didn't accept, she was 5 at the time!As for what he meant to me, there are many reasons but mainly because I finely understood the WHY of Ireland in The Field went to Connemara 'cos of his work.Bless him and us to have had the privelege of knowing such a fabulous human being hE will always be with me in my heart.
he was so gd he was soo gd, i can't believe he died,evry1 thinks of the new dumbledore when sum1 mentions dumbledore, i wished he lived longer, but he did say that he didnt want 2 be remembered cuz of wat he did in Harry potter
Frail and grey you mean! The man was alegend, ok serious booze problem and womaniser, but he made use of the 72 years. No procastination, just got on with it, like the Irishman of old, not the modern irish celtic tiger mortgage ridden clown of 2008!
I met Mr. Harris during his last tour of Camelot; he was frail and blonde but the following night he shined on stage....he is immortalized as KING ARTHUR...in my mind, anyway!
His version of this beautiful song is perfect. Jimmy Webb, the writer, and a friend challenged each other to write a nonsensical song that would be recorded. That's what I heard.
man this video is so awsom and i loved richard harris in harry potter. we all miss him so much. man the guy sthey replaced him sucks no offense to the people who like him. i personally liked richard harris better. i only knew him as dumbledore thoguh.

A beautifully done tribute to a singer and actor I have loved since childhood. Miss him greatly but he has left so much behind. A Tramp Shining!

jimmy webb was a great lyrics man, but this needed the voice of richard harris to get the song delivered to your heart. if you listen close to the words, there is a macarthurs park in each of out lives.

jimmy webb, the greatest, but he needed the voice of richard harris to make this song felt. if you look deep you will get YOUR meaning, your macarthur park in you.

his role in count of monte cristo was fenominal and this song is great.
great as he played in harry potter also.

Frail and grey you mean! The man was alegend, ok serious booze problem and womaniser, but he made use of the 72 years. No procastination, just got on with it, like the Irishman of old, not the modern irish celtic tiger mortgage ridden clown of 2008!
sligo74 4 years ago

He is my hero always a vivid personality a skillful actor a good singer and always in one scrap or another.
There will never be another Richard Harris for me and I miss him so.
