  • AHH Krysta Rodriguez!!!

  • hanschen's scene is much more seductive than frank-n-furter

  • Comment removed

  • Did Marissa von Bleicken play Martha?

  • I'm playing Ilse, but I'm sad because I can't sing in this song :( Unless they change it

  • @lossie101 Don't be sad. Very few of us will even get the chance to be in it. I hope you did really well! (Unless you're still in rehearsal, in which case, break a leg!)

  • Lea Michelle was in 3 major Broadway plays in major roles before Spring Awakening - Original version of Ragtime, Le Mis, and revival of Fiddler on the roof. Just read.....

  • for some reason if hanschen was talking to me like that i feel that i'd let him, do it with me

  • question...why do they use hand helds for every song??

  • @narniafreak92 They want to give more of a concert feeling in the musical (:

  • I never knew Lea was in Spring Awakening! i love her!

  • @Thing1JThing2L what are you headless? This show is the only reason the creater of Glee contacted her to play Rachel. Come on! Get your head out of your butt.

  • @Rumevyione the ONLY reasoning i can find like and infinite amount of reasons why ryan murphy , ian brenning, and brad falchuck chose her.!

  • @Rumevyione Oh come on. It's not their fault that if they have never heard of Spring Awakening before Glee. Music and arts programs were being cut across the nation prior to Glee. Broadway isn't exactly the most easy thing to have access to.

  • LEA<3

  • krysta is in this! that just made my day :)

  • Hm. Whenever I watch it though....it looks like Anna is the one saying "radical." Maybe it's just me. ^_^"

  • Lea is amazing

  • I think I've asked this before, but is anyone else wondering why Anna is saying Thea's line? ("such a radical?") Did they possibly change something or was that a mistake on the understudies part?

  • @AmyLeerae I think Thea says it here, too, the camera shift just makes it look like Anna said it.

  • is that Rachel off Glee?

  • @9t5Gina2k7 Yupp.

  • @9t5Gina2k7 Yes. Lea Michelle was in this. So was Jonathon Groff who plays Jesse on Glee.

  • I have to stop singing songs from this musical in school, I'm getting in trouble with the teachers.....

  • @LorenMQ LMAO!!! I got in trouble too because my ringtone was Totally FUcked

  • @LorenMQ hahaha that happens to me all the time. in social studies i went "theres a moment you know.." and my teacher went "dont continue..." :)

  • @eisnergurlzz58 HAS YOUR TEACHER SEEN IT???? That must have been hilarious!!

  • @LorenMQ hahaha i have no idea! but she's a big broadway nut, so she's probably heard the songg xD :)

  • @eisnergurlzz58 when i sang that i kept it intact. In drama rehearsals, we was going to do thoroughly modern millie, but instead all the students kept it intact!

  • Question,Its spelled Wendla with a W,then why does it sould like Vwendla, cause all the S.A cast back then and preset says it like this,so can someone please tell me why,or are they ment to have an accent.

  • @Lololuce04

The play is originally German. In the German Language, the letter W, when pronounced sounds more like V the W

that should clear it up for you!

  • I really like the contrast between Hanschen's wannabe-sexy/creepy speaking voice, and his singing voice!

  • is that Krysta Rodriguez from The Addams Family?

  • @J0McBanana Yes , she is :P

  • They use real microphones to represent the modern angst and free of the soul that is more of a rock outward escape from imprisonment as apposed to the dialogue scenes in which the action is introverted and more reserved

  • @ACrollercoasterrides ooh, I like that. =) thanks!

  • why do they use real microphones?

  • @dreamgirlz96 either its to better draw your attention to whoever's singing, or its because of their light costumes, headset mics would require a clip-on pack, and with all their jumping around, it would fall out.

  • @JackieBorelli I'm pretty sure they wear microphone packs, at least on the Tour anyway, for dialogue. I've deduced this mostly because of the Hairspray video on the Totally Trucked channel. :)

  • @dreamgirlz96 Because fake microphones don't work as well

  • hahahahahahaha do it with ur left hand hahahaha

  • Saw this today with these people so good

  • is it a lil weird i have a bigger crush on Remy Zaken than Lea Michele? I mean Lea is beautiful dont get me wrong, but i like short woman lol

  • @dk5388 I do, too! So, no, it's not weird.

  • im gunna play the adult women!

    SOO EXCITED!

  • Lea Michelle, you were born to shine.

  • Lea is pure brilliance. :)

  • lmfaooo. I can only imagine how awkward that is. ahahaha

  • According to the original play, Hanschen's picture is a copy of the Venus of Palma Vecchio.

  • @ABookwormAndProud In the musical, it's a postcard with a reproduction of Corregio's Jupiter and Io, where Zeus is coming to Io in the form of a fog or smoke. I can't speak for the play since I'm less familiar with it, but that's what he has in this version.

  • That cut a lot out of the song...

  • my favourite song from the musical. the harmonies kill me every time.

  • i love seeing lea michele in songs like this

  • thank you for that

  • The lady in this is my favourite "Adult Woman"

    she is brilliant

  • he looks like hes giving birth a bit

  • what is the guy in the middle doing

  • @Glee4EVA1000 Uh.........well

  • @Glee4EVA1000 He's 'getting in touch with himself'' so to speak

  • i don't really get this

  • @Glee4EVA1000 He's masturbating. :) Hope this helped.

  • I'm playing Hanschen in the Oxford premiere in Feb 2011. This scene's going to be fun...

  • Comment removed

  • I would turn lesbian for Lea Michelle, but stay straight for John Gallagher Jr... decisions, decisions <3 xxx

  • @TheMegajellibean awwwwwwwwwwwww i would to

  • Lea is so KID performing this show... I love the way she can change al lthe time!

  • i always watch the OBC of spring awakening on my computer, but i saw the tour going on right now a couple nights ago. soooo good!

  • Martha- I love Mortiz too!!!

  • im playing hanschen in the south premier this week =]

  • i'm in the adelaide version, playing thea :D december 2010 :D ♥

  • @sdrhead vv how did u see it? im confused

  • @sourpatch5559 there's a national Spring Awakening tour going on right now - totally different cast (unfortunately) but still amazing! I would probably pee my pants if the OBC for Spring Awakening got back together!

  • Just saw this show tonight! Absolutely brilliant! <3

  • amo esta obra

  • why is it all so rushed???

  • sew fuking titillating

  • is that krysta rodriguez at 4:24?

  • @liameg528 Yep :)

  • @liameg528 yep :)

  • haha it's a bunch of prancing girls around a masturbating boy. an interesting juxtaposition.

  • @lyndes33

i know, it's supposed to be a play on the term 'junk'...i think we all get it from there :)

  • @cazia9 I love this play, I realize. I think everyone got that part. I just think that the director did a great job and i love whoever came up with the idea for this scene because it's very creative

  • oh johnny b. how can anyone resist you?

    I miss phoebe though

  • @lyndes33 Phoebe played Ilse in this performance. I think Lauren was sick or something and they just asked her to be Ilse.

  • @WorldsBiggestGleek2 oh i know, i just wish that phoebe was playing anna because I never got to see it live, so I would have liked to see the entire original cast.

  • @lyndes33 Yeah same with me. I never did either. I saw a shot clip though!

  • 1:00

My feelings exactly. Oh, Melchior.... <333

  • Seriously.

That Sad soulful sleepyhead is my one true love!

  • Comment removed

  • I love at around 4:09 when Hanschen starts to sing, especially when he says "stereo."

  • Oh my god, I've nearly forgotten how fantastic this scene is...

  • can u still see this live???

  • @falloutboytohmi Sadly no. It closed on broadway and the tour just ended. But the good news is that they're starting a whole new tour with a whole new cast! Maybe you can see it then!?! I saw this and it was definitely worth it! :)

  • @WickedlyAwsome I know!! I'm seeing it in March! so excited

  • i got to see this! god it is so funny:)

  • @amsomegirl the tour just ended :/ sorry. the whole show is somewhere on youtube..that's where this clip is from. but that's the closest thing you and I are going to get.

  • @notyouraveragething I was talking about the song:| thank u very much

  • @amsomegirl its actually not funny whatsoever. its a very somber play about self discovery. theres a couply funny moments but that's about it.

  • @amsomegirl well there's going to be a whole new tour with a new cast pretty soon! And it's more of teen discovery and what makes it funny is that most of us have been through these kind of situations! It has comedy relief here and there to lighten it up a bit but it's a very sad, serious play. But gosh it's so worth seeing! :)

  • O.O Jonathan has really sexy thighs.

  • @TheBlueColoredBlob hahahahhaha

  • GOD! i love remy zaken, a girl who is little, cute, and can sing...i am in love!!!

  • Omg this is so amazing! They really transition well and the vocals are exquisite!

  • hahaha musical masturbation... thats a new one

  • Tthe reason thay have big mics is because they wanted the songs to be like a fantasy, an escapism.

  • Haha oh I just finished watching the whole thing-this shit is crazy, haha.

  • God, Lea Michele is so amazing. All the girls are good though; lovely voices. I want to see this show live. <3

  • The beginning is so cute (:

  • Wow what a wonderful preformance and Lea Michele is now on Glee!

  • which girl is jennifer damiano i mean im a big next to normal fan but i cant tell which ones her?!

  • @ilovcake91 Aw man I just saw Jennifer Damiano on Broadway in next to normal and she was amazing!!!

  • @MrRockapella93 I think she's in the chorus...

  • @ilovcake91 She's not in this video. She was a swing in the show and wasn't on as an understudy in this performance. I love Jennifer too. There are a few videos on youtube of her in this show though.

  • @InvisibleGirl1018 do you know where i can find a video of jennifer as a part in SA on youtube?

  • @eightyeightsugarrush ummm. search for the user Kylezilla. She has videos featuring the OBC with Jennifer as Martha. If you just search for Jennifer Damiano I believe there is a video of her singing Blue Wind with JGJ but it is just as a promotional event not actually on stage.

  • @InvisibleGirl1018 i've seen the one with JGJ but i will search for the other.thank you:)

  • the first one to sing, is that rachel from glee? :)

  • @parkerpops Yea. Lea Michelle

  • i wish i could live in usa...

  • I got to see this on broadway about 2 days after it opened. I was skeptical at first but after the first scene i loved it.

    Amazing show!

  • @NickyLess How on earth could you be skeptical? o.O I wished I could've seen it on broadway. But my hometown performance was great, too. :D

  • @ALovelyLullaby When the woman in the ticket booth told us about it, me and my ex were like "ok, sounds weird but we'll give it a go" So glad we did now.

  • i never get over this video. oh how i wish i could have seen this on broadway with the original cast.

  • o never mind..ha

  • does anyone know what herschen is saying during the scene? i can't understand him because everyone's laughing too loud...

  • @113xoxo he's reading a post card to a model.

  • @113xoxo he's reading parts of Shakespeare's "Othello" to the postcard, and saying it so it sounds racy haha

  • haha i just realized that he was reading the killing scene from othello when he was doing that haha. thats hilarious

  • who plays the kid thats playing with himself

  • jonathan b wright

  • @Tannaw1234 Jonathan B. Wright. he's hilarious!

  • @Tannaw1234 jonathan b wright.. (: beautiful

  • This show runs in norway now. I watched it yesterday. LOVED IT!

  • LOL HE SNIFFED IT

  • I love this show...was in NY in Fall 2008 and went to this show...afterwards, I realized that the original script is written by a german author :D

I travelled the world to learn something about the author of my country^^

    Great Show!!!

  • oh hannnnschen <3

  • What character does Jennifer Damiano play?

  • She was a swing that covered the female roles. I don't think she was in this performance as a character

  • Comment removed

  • It's normally translated as "Spring Awakening" although the German, "Fruehlings Erwachen", does use the genitive. It's not really important.

  • where i can get a copy of the play? like a dvd or something

i live in South America, so i have no chances of watching it live ,at least not in english, and I'm dying to watching it

  • Do you think you can buy a copy of the play?

  • the acutal play you can buy anywhere. i reccommend buying the copy by Dramatists Play Service. i own it, the play is marvelous. but very diff from the musical

  • Is this musical a book or movie?

  • its based off a play of the same name

  • Actually, the musical is called Spring Awakening, whereas the play is called Spring's Awakening.

  • thats what i meant. Spring awakening the musical is based off of Spring Awakening the play

  • I think, its up to the play's title is up to the translator's discretion because I've seen "Spring Awakening", "Spring's Awakening", and "Awakening of Spring" in my college library. They're all the same play, but different translators.

  • I thought people were NOT ALLOWED TO film or take photos of stage performances..

  • never stopped anyone. ;)

  • Oh, wow, it's Lea Michele.

  • I had this whole show (this exact copy) on my old computer but I lost it in the switch to my new comp :(

I had it on my ipod and I miss watching it so much.

  • This musical wasn't intended to be a "straight-up" musical where the characters are talking, then singing, then talking again, where they just as easily could be speaking the lyrics. The song here functions as a soliloquy or interior monologue of the characters instead of them speaking to each other. Even in duets, the characters are really speaking their personal feelings, the way a character in Shakespeare might have an aside where he addresses the audience and not the other characters.

  • Gives me goosebumps. Everytime. :) Love it. <3

  • I do teahcnical theatre (I run lighting, but I'm trained in sound), my guess is that this a reflective musical, not a live action musical, if that makes sense. We use element-mics(head mics) because we don't want it to seem like they are wearing a microphone, it's all the realness factor. However, this musical uses handhelds becuase they are adressing the audience. It's classy, but yet cheap imo.

  • the hand held mics are just for show they actually use head mics

  • @14Veltin actually they use both. When the characters are using the hand mics, the sound technician mutes the head mic ... the hand mic is not just for show

  • I absolutely love Jonathan B. Wright in this song (the guy masturbating). He literally made my day!!!!!!! hilarous, love this performance in general!!!

  • Do I see Lea Michele here?

  • Yes you do (: blue dress, playing Wendla.

  • @tenryuu yeah! its where she got her start in acting basically ...

hahaha u recognize her from glee? yeah cool isnt it

  • @xXsiscokittensXx Yeah. I know that she started on Broadway, but I never knew which musicals. :P

  • @xXsiscokittensXx hahaha, thats why i started watching glee :)

its weird i got into musicals cause of universal studios and how they played wicked, then that led to rent, which led to here, which led to glee :D

  • Ohh, Moritz Stiefil.

    I love hiiimm :)

I LOOOOOOOVVEE THIS SONG, AND THIS MUSICAL :)

  • why did they hold microphones? why is the orch on stage?

  • It's why they call it Broadway. ;\

They're performing in front of a large audience, which calls for the need of the microphones.

The Orchestra being on stage, well, I really don't know much abt that.

  • no why do they have hand held ones, why dont they use the same ones for when there speaking?

  • That's a good question. The reason why the characters in Spring Awakening hold their microphones to their mouth when they perform their numbers is because the "song world" in Spring Awakening are almost like private moments, instead of like in a usual musical where the characters are singing to each other. Even in Melchior and Wendla's numbers together like The Word of Your Body and The Guilty ones, they don't sing to each other, it's all about their feelings and inner thoughts.

  • @bubbafluff21 they're not actual microphones. they're fake.

  • sorry i havnt seen the show, then why do they have them?

  • @bubbafluff21 it's supposed to mean that the songs are happening in an alternate reality.

  • @ginohhh uh...i don't know who told you that. they're really using handheld mics to sing. for one, you can hear a distinct difference in sound when they're using the mics.

  • i'm sure its just the direction the director chose to go with the show. they could've done mic head set things and had the orchestra offstage but maybe they liked it better this way. who knows :)

  • @bubbafluff21 Doxygirl's description is pretty accurate to the reason. I don't know why ginohhh told you they were fake, cause they're not fake. and the band is on stage because it really helps re-enforce the rock setting of the show. i don't know if you've ever been in a rock musical like Rent or something, but having the band on stage is AMAZING, it really gets you into the songs your singing.

  • I looooove Phoebe Strole, I'm so sad this doesn't have her in it!!!

  • what does jenna ushowitz play?

  • she's one of the backup singers, i think. i think she's in the new cast, not this one.

  • Jenna Ushowitz played the understudy to Wendla. But Lea Michele is obviously playing Wendla in this video.

  • they actually have mics hidden in their hair and clothes that can't be seen. they use the handhelds sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice.
