This clip is most definitely playing at the wrong speed. Wheeler & Woolsey do not sound like this. For those not in the know, W&W were the #2 comedy team at the box office in the 1930s - right after Laurel & Hardy and before the Marx Brothers & Stooges. Unlike the others, they didn't have an afterlife on TV.
#2_before_Marx Brothers? Dont think so,considering "Horse Feathers" was the third best-grossing movie of 1932 (and best-grossing comedy)...Anyway,W&W flicks didnt aged well in comprasion with other teams mentioned :-)
Well sure there are always going to be exceptions, but the fact remains that W&W consistently out-grossed most challengers and often appeared on the "top moneymakers" lists. A studio doesn't let you make nearly 30 films if your films are flops. RKO's bread was buttered by Bert and Bob in the 1930s,
@a238407 They aged just as well. The problem was that they tended to be somewhat adult in their comedy and use a lot of double-entendres and inuendos, so, unlike their contemporarys, they could not be aired on TV, when TV picked up old movies and shorts in the fifties.
