looks like exactly what you said. Defective aluminum motor mount. You were doing a great job flying. maybe on your next one you could reinforce it by surrounding it with 2 part epoxy. Great job, good luck in your future r/c projects.
I have been using the plastic GWS mounts and have had no problems. They are only about $1 at the LHS. You would think that the metal mounts would be better than plastic...appearantly not though.
Thanks for the comment and the stars. I need to know what kind of radio you have to help you best. I am using a Futaba and it has to have mixing capabilitys. Let me know and I will try and help.
well i did not buy a radio yet becasue i did not know if it had to have mixing capabilitys and all that. where did you get yours and how much was it? thanks
Hmm...you'll probably never know what caused that to break. Maybe prop out of balance, maybe the first mild crash. I'll bet Herashio Cain from CSI Miami could tell you EXACTLY what happened while having his head tipped sideways with his glasses in his mouth. Unfortunately, you're a long ways from Miami...LOL
Great flight, all right! It may have been a bit out of balance, but it didn't sound like it, when you flew it. This is a case of probably more beefing up is obviously needing required.
But the most logical explanation to me is, you hit something in flight, something came off and hit the prop, someone shot it, or you had a big bug strike or a bat maybe.
You know It never entered my mind to ballance the prop. I always ballance my nitro plane props and have not done that with the electrics. That thing is putting out about 25,00 rpm and an unballanced prop at that speed could sure cause a problem. Another theory is that the same people that manufature that mount made my shift linkage for my HArley. It broke the other day and I had to limp home in 3rd gear. So much for MODERN TECHNOLOGY...........
Wow, the aluminum broke! Yeah, re-watching that first launch, I bet thats what did it... Great build and fly though, it really looks nice and you got the side launch down by the 2nd try. It took Keith months to talk me into trying that. I like how you fly out of your yard too.
Thanks for the comments. With the price of gas flying electrics at home is "GREEN" I wont use that aluminum type mount again. You would think it would be strong enough to handle that little bang from the first launch. Another theory is I hit another stealth flying by Obviously my radar would not have detected it.
The plane looked great until the crash. I'm wondering if the prop was out of balance? Thanks for sharing the flight. I may have to give one of those a try. ***** Eric

i think the prop was over stressed and that piece of it broke of, then the motor was spinning an unbalanced prop causing the mount to fail

wasn't it your atenna that went in the proppellor?

Prop did not hit antenna. Look at after crash footage antenna not dammaged or wraped up in frop of hub. Mount failed.
retiredrider 2 years ago
your motor mount was not meant for such high speeds. that aluminum looks way too thin you need a thicker motor mount

my mount broke too but it wasn't in a f-117
