  • They didnt want eyes poppin out, cause the G's was the double as in the spacec.... That is cool.... I feel 5-6g as a poop,,, Licensed is the word, USA gave no licenSE.....,

  • my grandmother's cousin has desinged one of the wings on the plane i think its the right one

  • God I love that 'ol sexy beast!

I grew up in a house just two miles from the runway at F17 airforce base in Sweden (Kallinge). Every time they took off on a sortie with full afterburners, to patrol the Baltic sea; our whole house was shaking and the windows rattling. It used to scare the shit out of me as a kid;-).

  • this aircraft was the first one to be fitted with Canards, it has been copied manyyears to come

  • the Swedish goverment had a choise to make either they started the production of nuclear weapons or the production of a new multi purpose airplane and i am proud that they choosed thatt they choosed the airplane instead of nuclear weapons... Even thou it dint have as much scare tactics as nuclear weapons has i think the Viggen was a exelent choise.... But it has very much scare tactics and its a really sexy fighter too.

  • Åh min älskade Viggen, som jag saknar dig!

  • What a beautiful aircraft. Pity they didn't build more of them.

  • It's driving backward on it's own! How cool is that! :D

  • It uses the reverse thrusters to reverse so quickly. This aircraft was purposely designed for quick turnaround and short uneven [gravel, dirt, grass, woodland] field services.

  • Of course it driving backwards, how else will ju park att IKEA or Ullared??? :D hahaha! :D :P

  • SWEDISH POWER!

    Eng:Viggen is our best airplane

    Swe:Viggen är våra bästa plan!

  • They have a totally different envelope!

Probably the best "modern" fighter/bomber (also considering price tag).... and now Gripen sure comes in with a price tag much below Eurofighter or any US fighters.

  • Swedes have a consistently peculiar way of using their own radar info and going in and out of Finnish/Swedish airspace when flying against the Finnish F-18. Against pilots who have a proud history of decades of Saab aircraft. It's just silly. Like Finland or Sweden would pose a threat to each other. Idiots.

  • Trainig my man is the key to all combat. What do you think Top Gun is: Americans against Americans, Germans, Russians, French or Canadians. It's all about the knowledge and experience. Sometimes the greatest lessons are the closest at hand.

  • Was the viggen ever sold as a stike aircratft outside of Sweden? I know Saab tried their best to sell it to Finland but it was a bit out of our policy at that time. And a pure strike aircraft still is.

  • Not to my knowledge; However surprisingly the Pratt & Whittney they used was purchased from Canada from the ARROW super fighter project....Bet the Canadians really kicked themselves over that one!

  • Man, for as small a country as they are they have made some singularly bad assed fighters, examples given the JAS VIGGEN SAAB DRAKEN, and JAS39 GRIPEN. No modern fighter should even consider following the Viggen into the low energy state, "low & slow" where it survives and thrives there.Fully flapped forward canards, and look at the efficiency of that thrust reverser. No runways? How about highways?

  • That's why I admire the Swedish forward thinking "Outside The Box"

  • very nice vid

  • Wow! A very very very good-looking "Viggen" Love that plane :)

  • Talkin about noisy aircraft's like the mighty J-35!

In Tullinge the F 18(I believe?) the J 35 pulled their throttles and afterburners already in the mountain-hangar! My dad told me about it! it sounded like hell broke loose!

  • Yeah! You´r right it was the A 36! A little copy of the Vulcan with the same engine! But it were never built!

  • These Thunderbolts were among other thing supposed to carry Swedish nuclear weapons to the Soviet union!

Luckily it didn´t come to that!

  • No it was the saab 36 who were going to carry the nukes. Instead of getting nukes the swedish government builded the SAAB 37. The SAAB 36 were never built as far as i know.

  • The Viggen was not intended for this purpose. The range was never long enough for such missions.

The intentions with Viggen was first of all a ground / sea attack plane targeting attacking soviet forces and in the fighter version air superiority

  • Correct

  • That's what you call peace through military strength. Now you realize Freedom Isn't Free!

  • I am a sergeant in the reserves and I served at Lv-3 and K4. I hope some day that my previous profession shouldn´t be necessary? But if we would disarmed the western world right now it would turn into chaos? So peace on earth wont happen in my lifetime!

  • lol that was the first time ive seen an air plane land park and then take off all in one shot......as if he said ...."woops wrong landing zone" !...lol

  • In one airshow an American Tank plane pilote came up to me and asked "What the h*ll is that" when the airplane did the stol and backing manouver as shown here.

He looked mighty surprised and he have seen most things I presume.

  • lol....yeah i would be suprised to

  • SUHOI-THE BEST

  • As much as I like Sukhois, try not to start an arguement here, please :)

  • LOVE VIGGEN LOOOVVVEEEEE ITTTTT.. I grew up having Viggen´s flying over my head now only have commercial airplanes flying over my head... Greetings from the Jamtland republic in Sweden :b

  • I spent over 18 years with the U.S. Air Force and there are days when I wish I was Swedish.

  • @ ZELTWEG 2003 ;)

  • The most amazing aircraft. Powerful, noisy and beautiful in the way only a jet fighter can look - and what an amazing short landing, turn and take-off. Sweden you have got to be proud of her!!

  • well kinda we have now the JAS 39 Gripen (griffin) but we sure love the viggen

  • The JS-37 will always be the Superstar Fighter/ Bomber of Sweedens aircraft arsenal.

  • Is there some of the J-37 still in service?

  • We certainly are :) But you haven't heard "noisy" until you've heard a J35 Draken on afterburner, it's a noise beyond belief :)

  • I believe you!

  • Hemse the Name "Thunderbolt" it is like the F4 Phantom still one of the worlds greatest Fighter/ Bombers of the 20th Century
