best Venus ever heard was by black singer Gracy Bumbry at Bayreuth 1961 - not at YT, please search recording at web - (btw: big "scandal") - if you listen her deep erotic singing you know why Tannhaeuser returns with her back to Venusberg acc to original finale (which was censored after 1st performance) and you hear how powerful music (not changed!) fits perfectly to his finale arie, too, and not to strange catholic crying :D - don't understand why original version not played ???

Spas Wenkoff's early pace in "Dir tone Lob!" seems a little slow BUT Gwyneth Jones Venus is as outstanding as ever. She, along with the late Tatiana Troyanos in 1980's-early 90's Met opera recordings, are the best Venus I have ever heard.
