@troylee3 well the confederate flag is a flag that the confederates used, (oddly enough) and They weren't down for Blacks haven the same right as them....well, i hope im not an idiot if that makes you a racist...id rather avoid that :-)
Slavery in the United States was a form of unfree labor which existed as a legal institution in North America for more than a century before the founding of the United States in 1776, and continued in the South until the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1865. Slaves were brought into this country and sold under the stars and stripes of the flag of the United States for hundreds of years, much longer than the 4 years of the civil war.
your typical confederate soldier didn't own slaves. They were fighting to ensure their individual rights and states rights wouldn't get trampled by the federal govt which was mostly concerned about the needs of the industrial north and not the agricultural based south.
Robert E. Lee didn't own slaves, but many Union generals did. When his father-in-law died, Lee took over the plantation his wife had inherited & immediately began freeing slaves. When Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, every slave in Lee’s charge had been freed. Some Union generals didn’t free their slaves until the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868
@troylee3 fun facts....but a lot of people that supported the confederates or still have the flag, use it as a representation of the beliefs that they still have....not that the flag is wrong, but i was curious to see if you're just proud of your heritage, or if you believe black people should still be enslaved...since thats ONE of the things they fought to keep...thats all
Absolutely proud of my heritage, the good and the bad. Nobody should be enslaved. A lot of hate groups misuse the flag just as they misuse the cross but nobody wants to ban the cross.
To me the confederate flag represents all the things that make me proud to be from the South. Growing up Southern is a privilege really. It's more than where you're born, it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than lovin fried chicken, sweet tea. It's being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, and Coke...and each other. We don't become Southern, we're born that way. I appreciate the intelligent comments and discussion by the way
@troylee3 haha sweet..i had an honest question, so thanks for not bein a douch..ive never really understood the whole thing, so i feel better now...lol
and by the way...I had to sell the car about two months ago so we could put a bigger down payment on our new house. Had to get my daughter into a better school district. Kept the plate and planning on purchasing a 2012 or 2013. Things you do for your kids. haha
stock color. sterling gray metallic. I had to sell it a couple of months ago because we needed money to buy a new house. will purchase another one in 2011 or 2013. hopefully they will have another Bullitt edition by then.
