  • hahahah GUN-FU all style

  • My uncle met him, adn taky gave me a birthday present: Regards of the dragon, signed by him (as 'your friend Taky Kimura')

  • @AuIbTh he also signed a photo for me, when I meet him in 2006... ;-)

  • I had the honor to meet and train with Taky back in 2007 at his residence in Woodinville, WA. One of my friends introduced me. This guy doesn't train just anybody off the streets you have to do an interview with him first. Anyway, I was doing chi sau with him and he lit me up like a christmas tree. The energy from this guy is amazing! I was literally sore for 2 weeks. Not even Icy/Hot helped!

  • @Leonhart306 You're very lucky!

  • @Leonhart306 wtf he lives in woodinville,wa? i live in marysville washington

  • @Gh3masterofrock Yes, he does. You should come down and meet him. Not sure how you would get in touch with him, though...

  • Kimura the great Karate Master to join Bruce Lee to be a Kung Fu and Jeet Kune Do Martial Artist.

    Lol at Jesse Glover hehe!

  • i wouldnt say thousands of year od tradition i would say 3- 400 of tradition

  • What is the name of this documentary?

  • Hes really, good and he is the only official instructor of JKD other than Dan Inosanto. BTW I am going to meet Inosanto in about 3 months. My master is going to fly him over to our gym.

  • @Kirillcankicker - Kirillcankicker , how did your first meeting with Guro Dan go? What did you guys work on?

  • @PMATSRS

Unfortuantly the time has not come yet for me to see Guro Dan. My guro said it more like motivation,(aka he is broke) lol. I hope to meet and train with him some day though.

  • @Kirillcankicker LOL.Wel he has seminars everywhere! Keep updated to where he is going to be. It's usually like 150 a head. Well worth it. Good luck.

  • @PMATSRS LOL yeah... thousand of seminars with thousand instructors under him LOL

  • @Kirillcankicker I went to Insosanto's seminar back in 2002 in Denver CO. It was awesome!

  • lee's highest student not dan xD nice -_-

  • I sincerely hope I have the honor of meeting Taky Kimura one day. He's very humble and down to earth. It's easy to see why he was one of Bruce Lee's closest friends.

  • 請問他是木村武之嗎

  • As a JKD student in the Seattle area, I always find Taky Kimura's life story fascinating and his attitude an example to martial arts practitioners.

  • You are in Seattle? You're very lucky, because I meet Si-Gung Taky just one time, in 2006. It was an amazing meeting, you are right about him...

  • @dmhlam hi I am writting a book on Jeet kune do and want to add his biography in my book however I cannot find a good clear biography on the net. where can I find his life story? books, websites, etc

  • The guy who in 3 years achieved a 3rd rank in everything and ran a school for Bruce. Or any of his students who were never given instructor rank in all 3 area (on no instructor rank at all like Ted). I'm not saying they have nothing to offer. But to me when anyone has to distort or rewrite history common sense kicks in. If they feel that they have to distort facts then they can't be that good and they know it.

  • On the JKD certificates I think Bruce only ever gave two people ranks in JKD.

Dan 3rd rank (Instructor) and ted Wong 2nd rank (something like senior student.). Now dan recieved his 3rd rank after 3 years training with Bruce 64-67. After over a year training under Dan at the LA school and more than 5 years training with Bruce Ted only had a 2nd rank. So who do you think Bruce really had faith in.

  • @Kc1189 Bruce is not the one who gave Ted rank. Dan is.. Bruce only ranked 3 people. Taky, Dan and James Lee..

  • @PMATSRS Thanks I knew that. Good to see others that know it also.

  • @PMATSRS No. Bruce Lee give to Ted Wong 2nd rank JKD.

  • @CataJKD Yes he did. No one ever said other wise. But the fact remains the Sifu Ted, RIP, was not ranked by Sijo Bruce to teach JKD. TEACH..

  • I am not trying to diminish Taki in any way. Just the facts. Bruce gave rank in three arts.

    1. Tao of Chinese Gung Fu (Modified wing chun

    2. Jun Fan Gung Fu

    3. Jeet Kune Do.

Taki has a 5th rank in Jun Fan and none in JKD

James Yimm Lee had a 3rd rank in Jun Fan and none in JKD

I don't know if either of them had rank in the Chinese Gung Fu.

Dan had a 3rd rank in all three arts. So Taki is Dan Si Hing in Jun Fan not JKD.

  • Is Taky Kimura still alive?

  • yeeeeees! June 8: Taky Kimura, 85, graduates from high school Taky Kimura was taken to a Japanese internment camp the day before his high school graduation 67 years ago. He finally received his diploma at Clallam Bay High School and was Clallam Bays salutatorian. He was one of Bruce Lees first kung fu students and became a close friend to the famous martial artist.

  • Holy crap! 85!!

And graduating from high school? It's never too late to do what's important, I guess!

I read that Dan Inosantos is about 72. (?)

  • @blahmeblahblahblah i know he's still alive. If I'm not mistaken he is now 86 or 87 years old.

  • I got a chance to work with Taki when I was kid, He was a really nice guy, he had a training studio in the basement under his grocery store. It was filled with Bruce Lee photo's and posters. It was a small class of 10 guys. How lucky we were to be working with someone like him.

  • Taky never charged a dime for his lessons; risking liability by having the school in his grocery store basement formerly located on 8th & Madison in Seattle. He did this not for money or fame but to keep his friends thoughts and memories alive. Even Dan Inosanto in one of his books in his dedication referred to Taky as his Si-hing which means older brother / senior student. Just look in The Bruce Lee Story written by Linda Lee & Tom Bleecker at the top of page 177. Google book search it!

  • in my opinion Jesse Glover is the most skilled of these fighters...It's no mystery that Bruce and James Demile both said Glover was the true inspiration behind Lee evolving with his art. Lee orginially wanted to further his study of Wingchun...But he couldn't find a true master to study under here in the states..So he decided to become his own master and create his own personal style and Glover helped him with it...People simply don't give Glover any credit...He was the first and best.

  • I dont beleive that people dont give credits to Glover. He is a good teacher for his way & I saw some of his instructors under him. Very GOOD! But after I saw his stuff, I think that isnt Bruce Lee's JKD, that all.

  • I don't know much about Taky, but I do know my teacher Jesse Glover. He has no "instructors". Sure some of my fellow trainees have taken on some students, but they aren't doing it in the name of Jesse Glover as though it's some sort of system. Meanwhile you're correct (CataJKD) in that what Jesse teaches is not Bruce's JKD, and he will also tell you that all these "JKD schools" out there aren't Bruce either. And I think Jesse knows what he's talking about.

  • I saw an instructor under Si-Fu Jesse Glover - he's name is Pierre Hartman from Swiitzerland. I really like this guy!

  • CataJKD,

I agree, Hartman is great! Jesse travels to switzerland from time to time giving seminars, but understand it's not like he (Hartman) trained under Jesse regularly to subsequently become an instructor. But sure, these guys pick his brain whenever he goes to give seminars, and what's also great is when some of those guys pay a visit to jesse during our training (i.e. Tommy Caruthers).

  • at cashman2k

aswell as Jesse staying at Pierres home Pierre also has stayed and trained in Seattle at jesses school and trained personally with Jesse. Sure your right no one represents jesse in an instructor role. Nice to see someone pointing this out.

  • I don't know how much Jesse influenced the developement on JKD but Im sure as hell it was James Lee that put Bruce on the track to reconsider his previous developement and vise versa

  • AMEN!

  • taky is my uncle, this is weird. haha

  • you know, it was my understanding that Bruce wanted Ted Wong to carry on if...whatever happened. And James Lee died very early, soon after creating the wing chun book with Bruce.

  • Man, I can't believe anyone argue who is 'highest' - all these guys were Bruce's closest friends and teachers and in fact Bruce gave little worth to 'levels'. His main concern was charlatons trying to rip off innocent people. So he established very loosely organized 'schools'. Danny's evolution took him more towards his cultural escrima center, while Taky imparted more of a 'Jun Fan' , original seed. Both are JKD and continue to evolve. Just different branch, same tree.

  • I love Taky, and I think he's a kind and generous man,and I guess I'd have to agree that in that whole JKD/Jun Fan world he or Inosanto may of received a certificate stating he is the king, but Jesse Glover was without question Lee's first student and best friend. P.S.-I really don't think Taky gives a shit.

  • jesse got into an argument with bruce, bruce threatened him, jesse left. also, you see jesse's the art of wing chun dao? bruce, who only knew 40% of wing chun taught this guy, who only knew 20% and then he writes a book!

  • When did this argument take place? And where did Jesse supposedly leave from? And who told you this story? I never said Jesse did WCD(that's Demille's trip). Or JKD. Or JF. Jesse Glovers does NCGF. And he has done far more than simply "write a book."

  • Yes... good question! What are these %?! Who calculate? Which formula was used?! Veeeery funny! BTW, Bruce Lee's level in Wing Chun was very high, if you see the old clips...

  • from the demos i've seen i'd say bruce did better in wing chun than most wing chun guys these days.

funny a lot wc teacher make the "40%" claim but I wonder how they know for sure?

  • they use a mathematics formula! :) Take care!

  • @theScytheofGod - Jesse never wrote a book on Wing Chun. He doesn't do Wing Chun. It's not the only way to fight, you know...

  • @gungfu69 He wrote about a book called, 'Wing Chun Tao', his own bastardized version of the style, I've read it. Of course it's not the only way to fight, it's just popular now, that's all, and follows certain physical principles that at least makes sense. But anybody could get their ass kicked, you know?

  • Taky Kimura is not only bruce lees highest students. he was one of bruce lees best friends too.

  • Agree with you. :-)

And also is a great person with a high & good character, A REAL MASTER.

  • how was it when you met him in 2006?

  • It was in Italy at MILAN. I was invited after the seminar to take dinner with my Si-Fu Luca Marinello, Si-Gung Taky & his son Si-Fu Andy Kimura. We talked many hour about Bruce Lee and his art. Was something that I will never forget...

  • that is not true taky kimura was not bruce lees highest ranked studen nor is he.. dan inosanto is and was bruce lees highest ranked studen.. dan is the only man bruce lee gave the rank of instructorship to.. and is the man bruce left in charge of jeet kune do

  • I hope you are not drink some alchool and after that start to make comments on youtube... If not, please make a stop at 0:21.

Dan Inosanto receivet 3rd rank from Bruce Lee, Kimura 5th, Ted Wong 2nd.

In my mathematics and directors of this documentary, 5 is more bigger than 3...

  • i am not drunk.. it says in bruce lees bio as well as dan inosantos bio that he is the highest ranking student of bruce lee and in numerous books writen about bruce lee and his students

  • if u research it u will find out that taky has a 5th rank in jun fan gung fu not jeet kune do.. and that taky recieved his 5th rank in june fan gung fu after bruce lee created jeet kune do. dan inosanto is the only student of bruce lee to recieve the rank of instructorship in jeet kune do. taky kimara and james yee were the other 2 who had been certified to teach yet niether of them had recieved rank in jeet kune do its dan who has

  • But who say something about JKD my friend?! The clip & topic is about "Bruce Lee's highest ranked student".

Inosanto admit that Kimura is his senior, so why you say "that is not true"? Because you are the liar...

  • u am not the liar. it states in all the books about bruce lee aswell as inosanto that insoanto is bruce lees number one student

  • Please contact producers of this movie, and tell them that you are right, and 3 is more bigger than 5. Bruce Lee certified 3 instructors (instructor in his art mean minimum 3 rank): 1.Taky Kimura 5th rank, 2.James Yimm Lee 3rd rank, 3.Dan Inosanto 3rd rank. In this equation, somebody have the biggest rank DIRECTLY FROM BRUCE LEE...

  • I met Taky on Oct 10 2008.

I was amazed to listen to him and I can testify of his wisdom and humbleness.

  • You are very lucky to meet this real legend, I meet him in may 2006. He is really GREAT!

  • Greaaaat video! KIMURA IS THE BEST!
