Oh my god, they were amazing.

The first few batches (not to many chips, but seemed like a lot, because I made a few at a time) were perfect, and tasted just like Lays, but then I started making them a little thicker, and leaving them a little 'mushier' inside, to make it taste a little better, and added some garlic powder along with the salt. It was fantastic! Thank you so much for this :)

There is no reason to make homemade chips. It's like 2 bucks for a big bag of chips, $3.50 of the premium stuff. No clean up, less work. You can even stick them up in the oven if you like 'em warm.

If you would give me one good reason to do this homemade chips I will concede. Otherwise, it's silly.

1.) no not fun

2.) it's deep fried in oil...that's not healthy no matter how much you try to fool yourself

3.) A bag of chips is less than 2 bucks. For the amount of effort it takes to buy potatoes, prepare, and cook those chips...2 bucks is well worth it.

4.) Less wasteful. How? Most potato chip companies even save the potato peels to give to farmers for their farm animals

When you try soaking the potatoes, you'll see that a lot of starch comes out. You're not adding water, you're taking out starch. (They don't brown too much.) It's important with fries, too.

I find it hard to perfect potato chips..I did it 2 methods. One same as yours..it tends to be oily and bitter on some burnt part ( the brown areas ).Second with thin coat of oil and baking it.

The second one comes out more evenly cook.But fail in comparison to my favorite Frito lay original potato chip.

I'l keep trying.
