  • I have tried sampling a song that has a tempo of 140bpm. The sample follows the tempo and pitch just like in the video but when i drop the tempo down to at least 92, the sample becomes choppy. Do you have a solution?

  • I love this vid. Is there any way this method can be used in logic?

  • OKay! Actually I fixed that other issue! :) I put the pitch on Mastetrack instead of the individual instrument. NOW! My midi keyboard won't monitor read now that I put sound flower in, Whats the deal there?

    Thanks! :)

  • @Comedyanatomy Play with your system settings and also play with your garageband preferences. You have to make sure you are playing sound "out of soundflower" and playing sound "into soundflower" to make a closed loop. You won't hear it out of yoru speakers while you are doing it.

  • HEY! Great Video! Thanks A lot! But When I change the pitch of one track, it does that to them all, Fixable?

  • Thank you for posting this, you just helped me fix my sample.

  • au pitch works great! thank you!

  • Actually, you can just press option-control-g to change and click on the orange track to change it to purple.

  • Love that beat. Whats the name of the sample?

  • how do you change it from purple to orange !!!!!!

  • Just download virtual dj and slow the sample there.

  • The background is hilarious Lol Ironing board, Iron, lamp

  • how do u change the tempo for only one of two tracks?? plzz help

  • hey i did all of the steps you told me to, but i still can't seem to record the track. would you by any chance know what the problem is..? thanks for the tutorial by the way, i'm highly grateful bro.

  • Hey Man, I have a question: I hear that the sample with the horns has its own drum set playing in the background. I know that once you insert your own loop both tempos will marry perfectly well, however do you have any techniques in order to not hear a mix up between your drum loop and the actual sample's drum set rhythm? Thank you, and keep posting please your videos are really helpful

  • Don't know if anyone else has asked, but, do you think you'll do a tutorial on mixing and basic mastering later? It's the only topic I've been trying to learn recently for my own work and I think you would do a pretty good job of a short and to the point tutorial (based on how you target these to people that at least know how to move around in GB). Also, awesome work man. Keep it up. I'll be sharing some of my stuff too when I get a chance!

  • hey, I'm having trouble installing sound flower. i download it and then once its on the last step it says installation was unsuccessful. Do u have any advice on this problem?

  • Hey, big question...I really have no idea how to get there.... I would like to take a song from my iTunes and change the beat on it. THEN I would like to add a beat to it with the same speed as I have sped up the song.

My problem is that I can not bring both to the same level. I can either speed up the initial song, then it speeds up the beat too much, though! Do you understand what I mean?

    Thanks in advance! :)

  • what sample is this !?

  • Ok so question. I've recorded my mp3 track into a real instrument (purple) and am able to adjust the tempo of the purple track..however, when i try to assign the sample to Radio Sounds, the tempo does not transfer. Any ideas?

  • i dont have a mac :/

  • does this work for garageband 11???

  • Bro, I fuckin love all your videos!! They've been extremely helpful. Thank you.

One other way i found to bypass using soundflower and change an orange track into a purple track is the shortcut "control + alt/option + G". Not sure if it has the exact same effect, but i think it should work.

  • I need help man. I installed soundflower but it's not showing up in the audio output settings in my system preferences

  • Hey I need help. Ok here it is. I want to change the pitch of an MP3 song on the garageband. I changed it to a purple region track already and checked the follow tempo and pitch but the problem is that the pitch won't move, it just stays on zero.

  • @mrkarlramirez - Checked out your videos, nice singing! OK, did you try to add the effect alled AU Pitch Change? Changing pitch w/GB isn't so great, lose a lot of quality.

  • @michaelromani Yeah i did but it still didn't work. :( Thank you by the way! Haha

  • Soundflower is not working for me. It's just not installing. Is there any other program I can use?

  • Awesome vid. Hey I've got a question: I began recording a few vocal tracks along with an imported track (yellow region track). Half way through I realized that I didn't set the proper key for the master track which matches the imported song. Matching them helps with pitch correction and autotuning. I locked my recorded tracks (purple) and then attempted to change the master key so that they wouldn't be affected, but wasn't allowed to because they were locked. Any ideas on how to do this? Thanks!

  • @vaanfluff Did you unlock the track? Can you unlock it? I'm not too sure what to say. ummmm. When I get into a situation like this I do one of two things. I copy all the audio, open a new project, set up all the tracks (leave them blank of course) then past the copied audio into the tracks. If that doesn't work you might want to start from scratch. Or, one more idea, you can export each individual track to itunes then just drag and drop them back into a new GB project.

  • @michaelromani Hey thanks for the reply. Unlocking the vocal tracks would cause their keys to change when I apply the master track key change. Drat. haha. I had run into this as well before too, but with a lot more software instrument tracks. This time it's only a couple of vocal tracks. I suppose restarting won't be too bad. It's my own fault. :D I'm afraid that by exporting and reimporting, I'll loose some quality, ooo unless it's uncompressed! Once again, thanks for the reply!

  • Hey man, Thanks again

  • 4:16 or just go on youtube to mp3 google search

  • how do u make two different tracks two different tempos? i want to speed up the song i'm using so it fits with the tempo of the drums, but when i change the tempo, it speeds up the drums too, so they still don't match.

  • whats the instrumental in the background?

  • @LEWSADERent - A track I produced that was on "The Creed of Apollo" mixtape. Send me a message on youtube and I'll forward you the download link.

  • dude, you are like THE garageband master.

  • @JosephCee hahaha, Thanks!

  • @JosephCee He is the garageband master

  • @tjnovak27 hahahaha. Not really. I get a bit obsessed with music from time to time and Garageband just happened to be the only tool I had so I had to make it fit my needs. Thanks!

  • how do you assign it to keys and keep the pitch and tempo change on the sample?

  • From the part in 5:03, how do I re-record my track to turn it purple? I don't see a record button on any of the tracks, and when I make a new track (such as the instrument one) it only shows the solo/unsolo and mute/unmute buttons. Help?

  • @MrElijahperks i have that question too.

  • @MissJamille1 Im working out of the garage band preferences menu at that point in the video. What version of GB do you have?

  • @michaelromani GB 0'9 version 5.1

  • You just have to figure out tempo set as your tempo (control alt g) Click on your track and adjust tempo as needed after clicking follow tempo and pitch.

  • bro, this takes garageband to a new level for anyone tryin to learn. What a service. Thanks

  • appreciate this stuff mane

  • Thank you for you're help, it really helped.

  • Its an easier way to change pitch of yur orange sample . simply (click control alt g) then click on yur track again . but can you send me the name of the sample in this video ?

  • @SmileToDaBeat - It's Grover Washington "aint no sunshine"

  • Thank you Brova! I've been looking for something like this, now I can get on with chopping my samples!

  • how can i change the pitch of a song from itunes in garageband 11

  • @puggirl1011 Do what I outlined in the video. Go to the "edit" menu on the right side of the screen. Find AUPitch and just change the pitch. Makes ure you are doing it to the track which contains the audio sample you brought in from Itunes.

  • what song are you sampling in this?

  • @jetsyanks8725 This is a sample from Grover Washington's cover of "Aint no sunshine." I chopped the first beat, litterally from like 1.1 to 1.2 from the 2.1 to 2.2 section and pasted it in but other than this portion of the song it is a straight sample. The verse section is a few samples overlaid on top of one another but still all are from this song. The drums are from the same song Kanye has in "Power" or whatever it is called.

  • @michaelromani oh thats so cool. i have 20 samples made from garageband. For the past 2 weeks i havent been able to find a good sample or original song to chop up. ill try finding a guy like him, thanks dude.

  • What version of GarageBand are you using? I have 3.0.4 so I dunno if this works with mine

  • @LuigiBoVerFinal This is '09. It should work on 3.0.4, the lesson I did in Lesson 1 won't work though, at least I don't think so. Maybe....

  • did you learn all this on your own?

  • @BIGG209 Yeah, sad aint it? I don't have anything better to do but to figure out how to make this program work for me.

  • @michaelromani thats cool, does garage band work on windows?

  • @BIGG209 no it doesn't its available for macintosh only not windows based pc's

  • fear the beard!!!
