  • The first thing I thought when I saw the host of the show was, Is that Ronald Reagan? Can anyone confirm if it's true or not?

  • @Angel19403 Yes, it was Ronald Reagan. One man calls him by his first name.

  • Ahhh...her expression at 2:11 into 2:12. So lovely...I love you to pieces DInah.

  • Yes, you are right. Jim

  • Is the host Ronald Reagan?

  • She was my girlfriend too. I still love her and listen to all her songs. I have been a fan for over fifty years. She was one of kind. A treasure for everyone to enjoy.

  • ...wish I was born in her era.. she went out like a rock star, O.D.ed at the height of her popularity. found some of her records at the thrift store and this song is on it. I love her voice so much, I play my 4 D.W. records over and over.. cant get enough!

  • Has anyone who viewed this clip realized that the Host/Commentator at the Apollo Theater was none other than the late great President of the United States, and Nancy's Husband, Ronald Reagan, I guess there was more to this man than His Party let us know, because Dinah and Mr. Jordan, according to my mother , who worked with them , had no time for phonies or two faced humans..Good for him...Yup! " Ronnie" Reagan. Dinah was / is inimitable and fabulous!

  • Christ... it's Ronnie Regan introducing!!!

  • she had a cute devlish look about her.

  • "Excuse me, Ronnie" lol! The record is in C, here she's in A, and swinging harder than ever. This proves she was the Queen!

  • Interesting to see Ronald Reagan doing the intro. Who would've known he'd become President of the United States?

  • @nagibler "Who knows what evil lurks inside the heart's of men"? ..."The 'Shadow does'.All is seen as today time is just a celluloid newsreel that may be found and viewed on YouTube.

  • i love her!!

  • beautiful

  • This footage is invaluable to those that know and love Miss D: from a musical perspective, notice how she was able to glide from her newfound pop success with her big hit record, What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" to her more comfortable jazz roots with "Makin' Whoopee!" And to have her Mercury Records labelmate, the great Louis Jordan doing romantic horn obligatos behind Dinah while leadint a swinging band. How cool is that?

  • WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great music great post one of my faves saw her before she passed at the Mich state fair w Les & Larry Elgart. Brings back great memories.

  • REGAN PUNCH

  • REGAN SMASH lol

  • look its ronald regan our former president @ the start of the video!!

  • Wrong Louis - it was Louis PRIMA who co-wrote "Sing Sing Sing".

  • you are absolutely correct...brain freeze." sometimes my mind and my hands do not work harmoneously. Thanks for the correction.

  • She had the world of 'blues' wrapped up in her songs. You should hear what she does to Hank Williams song. Thanks for the post!

  • Wonderful video..thanks for posting!

  • wow! what a clip!

    thanks for posting!

  • Great music ,something that brings us all together!Does anyone know what year this was made?

  • i so much love the "swingin' miss 'd'" album (on wich, by the way is a great version of "making whopee", much slower than this one).

  • Now this is my "girlfriend"! She's been dead about as long as I have been on this earth but Dinah is my favorite! Oh I just love her style so!!! My neighbor laughs at me because when I play Dinah's music I talk back to it. You know the usual phrases..."I know that's right"...."uh-huh"....tell it now"...*lol*. Great post!

  • @strongrj I hear you child

  • Wonderful Grandma Dinah. I haven't this version of her singing this song. Glad it was posted.

  • The difference is you Dinah.

  • The Great Dinah, I agree, about the cemetary. Lets hope her and many others are ok in Heaven.. Dinah is on my channel.

  • Class, Style , Substance, Beauty. Nothing could be fina than Dinah!

  • funny they call this blues and not jazz. however, its great anyway.

  • Shivery... lovely... thanks.

  • This is great!!!

  • The MC was the late Ronald Reagan!

  • Yes, that is Ronnie Reagan former gov of Calif & US president . I wanted to see & hear Ms. Washington & stumbled on him, pleasantly surprised!!!

I hear Natalie Wilson in her voice! So, Ms. Wilson was influenced by Ms Washington. Yes, this is jazz not blues. I hear jazz chords, not blues chords!

I sure hope Burr Oak Cemetary's, Ms. Town had enough respect for the remains of Ms. Washington! My prayers go out to the family of this crime-horrible! Please Regulate the Funeral industry!!!!

  • thank you
