I'm not a Silent Hill purist, really. I'm looking forward to Downpour and I think it'll be an awesome game; one with flaws, of course, but one worthy of the Silent Hill title. But this... I don't know what this is meant to be. The actual premise is kind of interesting, even the multiplayer aspect... but why does it need that damn top-down view, when all other players will be online anyway? Why does it have to be so action-oriented and even apparently contain magic? It's just really weird.
This is a stupid game by comparing with the Silent Hill: Downpour which will be released at the same day. The Silent Hill: Downpour is awesome. It keeps the orginally view side. Not this stupid RPG with no horror...

Making a subpar Diablo clone and slapping the Silent Hill name on it in order to sell a few more copies is NOT risky at all. The riskier move would be to make a SH centered around a character with unique problems and fears, and tailoring the town to that. "But don't worry guys! We're recycling Pyramid Head and SH2's sexmonsters because you remember them!" isn't the same as taking a chance on something new.

The monsters of silent hill are a construct of the tortured mind of the individual who enters the city. In Silent Hill 2 pyramid head was just such a creature. However, that creature gained immense popularity. Due to that popularity he has been brought back multiple times, which goes against the intricate plot line of the story it's self. Try to be original please.

I do give Konami credit for taking this risk and who knows... it could pay off. A premise very similar to the online game "dead frontier"(great survival game btw). While at first glance it may not look like anything special, it's the sort of game with incredibly addictive gameplay thats hard to put down. Some will like and some won't but we'll all see if this game prevails when it arrives....
Wow, amazed at all the people condemning this game before it's release. Since this is for the psvita, an experimental direction on the Silent Hill series makes perfect sense. While it may be a gamble for the series it could very well work. Of coarse If the idea doesn't work, it will go down in history not as a failure but more as a "lesson learned" from Konami.

I mean I dont mind spin offs and departures, I really like Shattered Memories, but they need to be extremely careful how they do it. So I actually think the story is kind of cool, but the monsters are stupid (if you know about silent hill I think you'll know why... of course that's only if you played the good ones, i.e. 1 - 3 and possibly 4... hint hint they're supposed to represent a characters psyche). Character creation, I guess that's ok it's only the appearance of the character. The gameplay.... horrible and not even like a survival horror game, much less a Silent Hill game. It seems more like some kind of cash in.
This might just be me so feel free to correct me but then this has stopped being a silent hill game and has now become an excuse to cash in on the multiplayer craze that's been happening? Kind of like that real bad ghost busters game that Angry Joe reviewed sometime back.
@ Redonx - Yes PH was shamelessly shoehorned into Homecoming and shouldn't have been there, but his appearance still made sense. James got his appearance from a painting, he didn't make him up. His purpose in Homecoming was to punish the parents for the guilt they felt for killing their kids.
Personally i think the game premise of a book that lets you write/rewrite your character's life sounds like it could be deeply fascinating. I'm not sure why it was necessary to shoehorn such a concept into a preexisting franchise where it doesn't belong just to give the idea a recognizable brand-identity though. People aren't afraid to spend money on games that have unique ideas. This concept has the bones of a very good game; but it doesn't belong within the Silent Hill mythos.
Hey, Tomm, you know how Pyramid Head was in SH2 as a representation of James's sexual frustration and psychological state? And how when you put him into Homecoming everyone was pissed off because it made no fucking sense?
The only challenge will still be to give the game similar atmosphere, to the others in the series, which is where I can empathize with some of the opinions of other, more dissatisfied fans.

There is no INTENT to even try to focus on psychological horror--the GREATEST STRENGTH of the series--and there's no way to even have a strong, character-driven plot because it's multiplayer. Homecoming was at least a failed attempt to be Silent Hill. Now they've just given up and are milking the franchise.
Skip this and play Dead Nation instead. Or Amnesia, if you really want horror.

The monsters of silent hill are a construct of the tortured mind of the individual who enters the city. In Silent Hill 2 pyramid head was just such a creature. However, that creature gained immense popularity. Due to that popularity he has been brought back multiple times, which goes against the intricate plot line of the story it's self. I do give Konami credit for taking this risk and who knows... it could pay off. A premise very similar to the online game "dead frontier"(great survival game btw). While at first glance it may not look like anything special, it's the sort of game with incredibly addictive gameplay thats hard to put down. Some will like and some won't but we'll all see if this game prevails when it arrives....

Wow, amazed at all the people condemning this game before it's release. Since this is for the psvita, an experimental direction on the Silent Hill series makes perfect sense. While it may be a gamble for the series it could very well work. Of coarse If the idea doesn't work, it will go down in history not as a failure but more as a "lesson learned" from Konami.

I like the fact you can make your own character, I like the scenario concept, I like the background music, I like the mulitplayer mode, I like the special someone but the one thing that pisses me off about this (besides the fact it won't be on anything besides a PS Vita) is the bird's eye view and the fact that it doesn't look scary it looks like anything to do with Silent Hill. Why do you call this Silent Hill? It's clearly a completely different game, it's not just a different style of game like Homecoming (I personally liked it, but I can see why fans were disappointed). I mean I dont mind spin offs and departures, I really like Shattered Memories, but they need to be extremely careful how they do it. Silent Hill is just so much more personal and deep than Resident Evil, or any horror for that matter, it is quite protected by fans.

So I actually think the story is kind of cool, but the monsters are stupid (if you know about silent hill I think you'll know why... of course that's only if you played the good ones, i.e. 1 - 3 and possibly 4... hint hint they're supposed to represent a characters psyche). Character creation, I guess that's ok it's only the appearance of the character. The gameplay.... horrible and not even like a survival horror game, much less a Silent Hill game. It seems more like some kind of cash in.

@ Redonx - Yes PH was shamelessly shoehorned into Homecoming and shouldn't have been there, but his appearance still made sense. James got his appearance from a painting, he didn't make him up. His purpose in Homecoming was to punish the parents for the guilt they felt for killing their kids.

Personally i think the game premise of a book that lets you write/rewrite your character's life sounds like it could be deeply fascinating. I'm not sure why it was necessary to shoehorn such a concept into a preexisting franchise where it doesn't belong just to give the idea a recognizable brand-identity though. People aren't afraid to spend money on games that have unique ideas. This concept has the bones of a very good game; but it doesn't belong within the Silent Hill mythos.

There is no INTENT to even try to focus on psychological horror--the GREATEST STRENGTH of the series--and there's no way to even have a strong, character-driven plot because it's multiplayer. Homecoming was at least a failed attempt to be Silent Hill. Now they've just given up and are milking the franchise.
Skip this and play Dead Nation instead. Or Amnesia, if you really want horror.

Well since i got frustred with EVERY slow as a slug silent hill character when it comes to swing a freaking crowbar... yeah, i hope they make the game right in therms of gameplay. Because in terms of artwork, it'll be awesome to kick some manequins faces (i like them :D). And stop hating, they'll still make another shattered memories-like SH as i hope so.

ICE!"!, besides you just run the whole game... that idiotic, every time a monster appear you run, Silent Hill died alongside with Team Silent.

And besides that, the game isnt about running, thats the thrilling part, and imo, the worst part (i hate running against monsters x.x). And i simply ask you to play it again, but paying attention to the surroundings, exploring every corner and wall, just to see how interesting harry's memories can be among this game, who continues to change everytime i play it. @DehTinoco I appreciate your polite answer and proposition... but not possible I got rid of the game as soon as I finished, I helped my cousin beating the game tough, we both got different endings, but I still didn't like it, I'm not saying is a shitty game, I'm saying that for Silent H is a bad game, I don't think I'm that closed minded, I mean I played Origins and Homecomming, and I really liked Origins as much as the first 3, not that much HCMG, but Book of memories is my limit with konami.

@AlXV Well indeed they are compromising the atmosphere of the game. Thats why i liked shattered memories, they brought it back kinda (without the proper otherworld, sadly... i like the infernal otherworld =/). I just hope downpour will bring it back full thrust. And i seriously doubt they can make book of memories a good game. Not because they would be ruining SH, that would be a completely different game, but the concept of this book of memories just... i dont have so much hope on it xD
