  • In this solo Jimi "is still alive" as well. Just a killer tune. Why do people have to

F their kids around. EV set a mark in rock few will be able to attain. \--/

  • Who else thinks Pearl Jam should play at the next Super Bowl?

  • @McReRe159 I am Australia, but hell yeah, Pearl Jam should play at any internationally broadcast event, and for the whole event. Who cares about a bunch of jocks running around after a fucking ball, show me the music. (btw i played state cricket, and i still think sport is a fucking joke.)

  • @McReRe159 Of course I meant Australian...

  • wiki that shit it is about incest, but its not about eddie vedder he just sings a story about it. like in their song "Jeremy"

  • @physic3 wtf? how the fuck is it possibly about incest?

where in this does it say anything relating to incest?

"Alive" has been revealed by Vedder to be part autobiographical and part fiction.[3] When Vedder was a teenager, his mother revealed to him that the man he thought was his father was actually his stepfather, and that his biological father was dead. The first and last verses detail those actual events, but the second verse is storytelling on Vedder's part.

nd this is from wiki so jaws me

  • @souljachild9 You got it turned around man.... Google it.

  • @physic3 i did google it... it's not mainly about incest, nd a large part of vedder's life was about his real dad being a family friend, and him being led on by his mom to think his stepdad was his real dad. the fiction part is about incest and we know its fiction because im PRETTY sure Vedder never fucked his mom, or got female raped by his mom O.o

  • @souljachild9 Yeah i know, i was just proving some one wrong because they said it wasn't about incest at all.

  • @physic3 i see, kk then yeah

  • when this song came out i did my first jump in the 82nd abn div in sicily drop zone. and remember kissing the cold hard sand. good times. still takes me back.

  • When i was a little girl, i remember my bro blaring dis song from his stereo...it has soo much meaning to me this day....<3 Pearl Jam

  • <3

  • <3

  • GOD i love Pearl Jam! Whenever I listen to them the shit surrounding me, just fades away!

  • This song played on the radio as I rode home from State prison(for drugs)It brought tears to my eyes.

  • 11 people are not still alive

  • @xxironwingxx I've killed them

  • 2:01-2:07 just give me chills

  • pearl jam confirmed in rock in rio 4

  • there's a book on song meaning's and this is in it i. its about incest dude's sorry :)

  • @jappboy1 dude, I don't know what book you read, but Eddie clearly explained this on VH1's Storytellers. It's about him being raised by his step-father whom he thought was his biological father

  • Whoever the hell said it was about incest really needs to look up the lyrics to this song. Honestly. That's pathetic.

And I found out that the part that says "I'm still alive" wasn't meant to be a positive statement. Since Vedder found out the truth about his dad and how he died, it was a curse for him to still be alive. But fans changed it, & at shows, they celebrate & dance to that part, & Vedder states that it was those fans that turned around the curse.

Just thought everyone should know :)

  • 11 people dont like being alive

  • When I first heard this album I just thought the music was great. Years later (add more life experience) I realize the depth of these lyrics. This is very important music! No wonder they didn't sell their soul to the industry -- they had far-more profound things to say than the industry would allow... Another non-sellout is Devin Townsend. If you like metal, he's just as true as Pearl Jam. Interesting how both are from the Pacific Northwest...

  • 11 people are very very stupid

  • @marcolovesinter97 you're stupider for caring about dislikes. This goes for any other retard who cares about dislikes, screw off.

  • the first verse is true. the second one is a fictionalized account of the molestation by the character's mother. she "molested" him bc he looked like his biological father and the grief drove her crazy. "The look" he was referring to was the "look between her legs" (vagina). its true. its a trilogy of a fake story (with the exception of the 1st verse of this song). read, ppl. read.

  • @LilViper510 Wow u were prolly jerking off writing this sick freak HestTheMan929's makes more sense.

  • @FightTheWar23 You're a dipshit.

  • @LilViper510 PLEASE can you answer me if i understand it correct the part of ...she walks slowly,i'm ready for u... and so on i'm wondering if i got it right wath i thought he sang...i'm very serious so please no joking just explaining thanx if you do so.

  • @SMURFJES1234 its about a juvinel guy effin his mother u got it now?

  • 1st part true, second part him growing up, being a normal teenager experiancing his "first time" AND BEING LOST CAUSE HE DOSENT know who too talk too now cause he has questions and cant trust his mother his real father is dead, , hes growing up and has no father figure, hence the lead in too the third part. . even during the VH1 special he said this is a song about someone he used to know,,, referencing a young adolesent self...IDIOT

  • Fucking great job with this vid man

  • who doesn't L O V E Eddie Vedder..

  • @jozy09812 apparently 11 dumb motherfuckers lol

  • Brillant! Fu--ing Brilliant!

  • 11 people died after disliking...

  • this song is not about incest hes dad left him at an early age and he mom remarried and took care of eddie his whole life and eddie believed that he was his real father until they eventually divorced and he was told the truth and by that time his dad was already dead in which he expresses in this song.,

  • Yes, it IS about incest. He said so himself in rolling stone. The first part is true, yes, but the second verse is about incest. The next part of the song is ' Once, ' where the son went out and kills people. The last part of the song is ' Jeremy, ' or ' Footsteps, ' where he's executed for his crimes.

  • Still love hearing this each and every time I go running listening to it on the IPod. It never grows old.

  • wow 11 dislikes, that,.. well,..lets say still LEARNING, about, the good stuff in life

  • 11 people must not know what this song is about ill enlighten you it a about a boy who is told by his mother that his father is his step father and how she rapes him because he reminds her of the dead biological father

  • best band of all times!!!!

  • I love this song!

  • WTF........ GREAT

  • I love to play this song so fucking much

  • at the end of the day all you can really say is i'm still alive

  • @lucasmanning1 "I'm Still Alive" isn't meant to be uplifting. Those words were a curse on Eddie's soul put there by his mother.

  • Just btw - it's "while" she walks slowly - not "oh" she walks slowly

  • this is all we can say at the end of a long day ooh i ohhh heey i ooh i still alive

  • awesome.....don't exactly get it but i think the singer is playing himself as the father

  • @99yomomma wrong! The father or the step-father are both nowhere to be found in the story told by the lyrics. The only two the listener comes into contact with are the mother and the son.

  • @99yomomma Fail..pure fail.

  • AWESOME

  • was this some sort of story?

  • @xXShrimpzXx Vedder's dad wasn't his dad. He never knew his real dad. His real dad was just a one night stand that his mom didn't keep in contact with. "I'm Still Alive" were words that haunted Eddie, because his thought was that after she was able to distort the truth about his life and the identity of his father, she didn't deserve to be alive. "I'm Still Alive" was never meant to be uplifting or happy. The fans made it that way!

  • @ComaAlpha I heard that Eddie did in fact know his real dad but that he always new him as just a family friend then his mom told him that was his dad and that his "dad" wasn't his real dad. But that's just what I heard.

  • @finding0rafter That could very well be true. I'm only going off what I heard on VH1 Storytellers and Eddie didn't go into that much detail about it. I wish I could find the MLB instrumental version. "A Dollar Short"

  • Is it not "I heard I'm still alive" ?

  • What are these lyrics about?

  • @cutator It's about being told you real father is dead and he finds out that He's still alive

  • How can you not like this awesome track?

  • @dune2online YOU"RE ON CRACK! THAT"S HOW!

  • now im a good fan of pearl jam but i never found out the name of this song till i sang it on rockband =D oh and, jeremy is my mid name =P like the song.

  • now i cant see, i just stare Oo

  • Best fucking song

  • Pearl Jam kicks ass, love this song.

  • that intro is SICK! I love this song!

  • that intro is SICK! I love this song!

  • Its not about incest. it's the actual story of the fact that eddie was raised by a man who was not his father, but his biological father remained a family friend. After his real father died, his mom told him who his real father was. It bothered him and he changed his name (after it had already been changed when his step dad adopted him) to his mothers maiden name. Hence Edward Severson III became Edward Mueller became Eddie Vedder.

  • @hestheman929 no it is an incestuous meaning!

  • eu amo essa musica

    pearl jam♥

  • Comment removed

  • the song is part of a pearl jam song trilogy that includes "once" and "footsteps". And yes, there is an incestuous tone in the song, its part of the story according to Vedder. "The look" is what the son is seeing between the mother's legs, not her face. Creepy, yes, but that's what he means

  • This song is about Eddie finding out that the man who raised him was not his biological father and his bio father died of MS. His mom told him this after she divorced his step father.

  • Pearl jam is an amazing band..forever and always :)

  • Thank God for Pearl Jam.

  • Incase you don't understand, the meaning to this song is creepy and disgusting.

  • @shazam963 how? its of a 13 year olds dad dying right?

  • @shazam963 No, it is about a mom having an incestuous relationship with her son after the death of the biological father.

  • @shazam963 yeah i thought i heard thats what the song is about

  • 1991-my birth year

  • best solo in a song ever from 3:43 to end...
