@physic3 wtf? how the fuck is it possibly about incest?
where in this does it say anything relating to incest?
"Alive" has been revealed by Vedder to be part autobiographical and part fiction.[3] When Vedder was a teenager, his mother revealed to him that the man he thought was his father was actually his stepfather, and that his biological father was dead. The first and last verses detail those actual events, but the second verse is storytelling on Vedder's part.
@physic3 i did google it... it's not mainly about incest, nd a large part of vedder's life was about his real dad being a family friend, and him being led on by his mom to think his stepdad was his real dad. the fiction part is about incest and we know its fiction because im PRETTY sure Vedder never fucked his mom, or got female raped by his mom O.o
when this song came out i did my first jump in the 82nd abn div in sicily drop zone. and remember kissing the cold hard sand. good times. still takes me back.
@jappboy1 dude, I don't know what book you read, but Eddie clearly explained this on VH1's Storytellers. It's about him being raised by his step-father whom he thought was his biological father
Whoever the hell said it was about incest really needs to look up the lyrics to this song. Honestly. That's pathetic.
And I found out that the part that says "I'm still alive" wasn't meant to be a positive statement. Since Vedder found out the truth about his dad and how he died, it was a curse for him to still be alive. But fans changed it, & at shows, they celebrate & dance to that part, & Vedder states that it was those fans that turned around the curse.
When I first heard this album I just thought the music was great. Years later (add more life experience) I realize the depth of these lyrics. This is very important music! No wonder they didn't sell their soul to the industry -- they had far-more profound things to say than the industry would allow... Another non-sellout is Devin Townsend. If you like metal, he's just as true as Pearl Jam. Interesting how both are from the Pacific Northwest...
the first verse is true. the second one is a fictionalized account of the molestation by the character's mother. she "molested" him bc he looked like his biological father and the grief drove her crazy. "The look" he was referring to was the "look between her legs" (vagina). its true. its a trilogy of a fake story (with the exception of the 1st verse of this song). read, ppl. read.
@LilViper510 PLEASE can you answer me if i understand it correct the part of ...she walks slowly,i'm ready for u... and so on i'm wondering if i got it right wath i thought he sang...i'm very serious so please no joking just explaining thanx if you do so.
1st part true, second part him growing up, being a normal teenager experiancing his "first time" AND BEING LOST CAUSE HE DOSENT know who too talk too now cause he has questions and cant trust his mother his real father is dead, , hes growing up and has no father figure, hence the lead in too the third part. . even during the VH1 special he said this is a song about someone he used to know,,, referencing a young adolesent self...IDIOT
this song is not about incest hes dad left him at an early age and he mom remarried and took care of eddie his whole life and eddie believed that he was his real father until they eventually divorced and he was told the truth and by that time his dad was already dead in which he expresses in this song.,
Yes, it IS about incest. He said so himself in rolling stone. The first part is true, yes, but the second verse is about incest. The next part of the song is ' Once, ' where the son went out and kills people. The last part of the song is ' Jeremy, ' or ' Footsteps, ' where he's executed for his crimes.

Excellent video! I am so freakin glad the band found Eddie after the tragic passing of Andrew Wood. Both were awesome singers. I feel truly blessed to have music such as this in my possession.
