  • Great song, Don Estelle had an amazing voice and Winsdor Davies certainly know how to play it up for the cameras, I've watched this, enjoyed the music and cried laughing at the same time! True pure entertainment, the likes we'll probably never see again thanks to the Fix-Factor and Britain's Got No-Talent!

  • Windsor Davies is hilarious in both this & It ain't Half Hot Mum.

  • great!!!!!!!!! woooooooooooooooooo!!!

  • Great VT, Don Estelle had such an amazing warm voice and never reached the heights he should of has a singer such a pity he was never recognised as one of our greatest singers.

  • @Cartier6 Yes!

  • @Cartier6 Couldn't agree with you more about Don Estelle. What an angelic voice! Thank goodness for You Tube. Kingoflimpets' post is the best YT clip of Don Estelle and Windsor Davies performing this song. It starts beautifully and doesn't cut off abruptly. It's beautiful! Thank you for sharing, Kingoflimpets.

  • Can't help but smile everytime I watch this !

  • i remember this when i was youngf great song

  • Sing lofty

  • Love this

  • Superb!!!!.

  • 17 people have no idea about music!

One of the all time great performances!

  • This is a classic it is timelessly gorgeous - big thanks for having this :-)

  • Well sung lofty, be at rest now knowing you touched so many lives in your career. R.I.P Don estelle. x

  • What a wonderful voice Don Estelle had, note Simon Cowell, this is what real talent sounds like.

  • Are the medal ribbons worn by Windsor Davies genuine?

  • This is timeless entertainment, by professionals, and not the dross we have so much of nowadays - masquerading as talent.

Aside from the entertainment value of "the boys", Don Estelle was a very, very nice singer and his family should be proud of him, and what he offered us.; now sadly missed by many.

  • that is funny man . i remember :)

  • This is a message from one angel to Jesus Christ ( during an incarnation ) about kissing his true love " Elle "

  • voice

  • Beautiful voie :)

  • Sublime voice..... and irritating, puerile accompaniment. Nothing against Windsor Davies (just doing his job, and very professionally), but this would have been so much better without the IAHHM comedy elements.

    RIP Don Estelle

  • 16 dislikes, nazi bastards!!!!!!!!!!

  • fantastic singer don estelle was..

  • cool video :)

  • great song..great show!...fantastic people!

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • Great song, you just wont see that sort of thing again... and that makes me sad:(

  • rest in peace don. you died alone but you were loved by millions.

  • Oh for songs like this to get into the charts again? such fun funky and feelgood stuff! just what music is supposed to do-lift your spirits

  • stupid boy

  • @scouseology1 Wrong Series, Thats Dad's Army

  • we should still be watching these great guys on tv but for the pc brigade telling us that the shows they were in are not poltiically correct..... i say fuck you pc brigage...i want to watch it ain't half hot mum and love thy neighbour and till death do us part....because they were great entertainment..and thats all

  • I remember laying on the fields on summer evenings close to home with this song ringing in my head when I was little and trying to hear if the the grass really did whisper. Running home and sneaking in through the back door to grab a drink and my dad would be sat there in his chair in the sitting room watching "It Aint Half Hot Mum" on tv. Those were the days when the air was good, things smelt, sounded and tasted good and folk loved a good tune and a sing-song. God Bless Don

  • what a lovely song why he didn't become bigger i'll never know

  • Don Estelle's voice was rich and smooth as butter. It's a shame the entertainment industry is fixated on looks or Don might have been bigger than Matt Monro.

  • saw them sing this in Jersey in 1974/5 and it still sounds great.

  • AS a little boy Don and Windsor were meant to come to a garden party thrown by the parents unfortunatly Don didn't make it but still have memories of sitting on Windsors shoulders.TANKS for the memory downloader

  • a few years ago i was in north london and i also saw don estelle selling his cd what a voice

  • I love it ain't half hot mum... i love don's voice but im in love with windsor davies :)

  • I appreciate the TV show they were as well as their performances, but would prefer this song sung by Don Estelle on his own. Windsor Davies is a good actor, he has a sister here in New Zealand and visited here several time but being a bit of a "Purest" , I prefer this song with just Don Estelle alone

  • Don Estelle was in Exeter a few years ago selling his new Cd. I can't remember the year though. A very good voice though.

  • thanks for youtube the world would not be the same with out it.

  • love this ..xxxxxxxxx

  • a little man with a great voice i remember watching it aint half hot mum loved the show

  • 16 people have told the trees there secert

  • Too good. It doesn't need the comedy, but the comedy makes it great!

  • soooo very kool ! ya just gotta love it

  • love that

  • Great, great voice. I love this song and have many versions of them. Don's with the greats, always will be. There's immortality for you.

  • brilliant don great voice, windsor comical genius fantastic

  • great memories are met listening to this very well made piece of nostalgia nearly half a million hits on here cant be bad....those who have a dislike for ths song must be either young or hard of hearing it made number one after all.....brilliant stuff....

  • Pure entertainment

  • .......unforgettable to those of us of a certain age

  • superb windsor davies just like my old sergeant major.

  • WOOOOOW!! THIS IS SOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL.Don had the most beautiful voice, and it's so nice to see Mr Davies not screaming:)) They performed this so well together.Well done boys.Thank you for sharing this.Lots of stars.

  • Awesome!! I remember this when it was in the charts, when life was so much simpler, and music WAS music; not like the dross that gets churned out these days...

  • fukin great

  • watch?v=ReNzgMLssNI

  • there will always be people with poor taste it cant be helped.i can remember my old man stood at the gate singing this . great song better memory.

  • this is excelent . theres obviously 16 idiots out there with bad hearing , who probally listen to rubbish like poop dogg and m&m .good thing is people - in 35 years time people wont even remember who they are . they'll show up on youtube in "musics most embarising moments" . the vidio of don selling his cds out side supermarkets is pretty sad realy , but now ive heard him sing ... i just have to get one . this clip is funny . he looks like hes still waiting for sargent major to yell at him .

  • Rochdale fella. Died alone in a council flat in the town :-( so sad.

  • What a voice.. enough said =)

  • Two Angels, hope they will meet again someday.

    RIP Don.

  • RIP Don......

  • How anyone could dislike this performance or song is beyond me. It is fantastic.

Two wonderful performers and one of them a really great singer.

We will never hear the likes of Don Estelle again.

  • @goinghomesomeday1 shut up lofty lol

    #

  • @marks8889 -- LoL - Last evening my wife & I watched some Dad's Army and were delighted to see Don Estelle in it. What an awful pity he didn’t have a greater part, he was (in my opinion) very much under rated by the TV bigwigs.

This video is just fantastic sadly we will never see their likes again.

  • @goinghomesomeday1 Don estelle is like Susan Boyle. If he stood in front of idiot talent quest judges they would laugh at him.

  • @MsSmallthings -- Yes, very true. I watched a programme some time ago, I think it was Britain's Got Talent (not sure). This young-lad who was a boy soprano 12ish (not sure) sang Pie Jesu. It really was fantastic and the audience gave him a standing ovation. The winners of the competition were 4 Pakistanis who had a dance routine which made no sense at all, just prancing about the place and shouting.

    Modern music!!!

  • @goinghomesomeday1 Could not agree more.....

  • Don Estelle has the voice of an angel and what a superb performance from Windsor Davies. Windsor really is truly wonderful in all of his performances but this one is a classic.

  • Absolutely addicting performance of a most beautiful song. Thanks for posting.

  • 16 people can piss off , beautiful voice , by the way for anyone who does not know , this was from [ it aint half hot mum ] , a comedy series from the uk in the 1070s , just for the ignorant ,,,,,,

  • 16 people were told to SHUT UP it aint half hot mum is the best sitcom ever made.

  • 16 dislikes,sad bastards!

  • I had never realised that Don Estelle had such a fantastic voice. Bloody hell - the boy can sing good!!

  • perfect british sarge

  • Lofty and Sergent Major Shut Up. They've got to be one of my favorite comic duos of all time. They don't make them like they used to :( and that's coming from a teen.

  • I love this so much, his voice is mesmerising!

  • Cannot cry anymore, all my tears have gone, thank you Mr. Davis,

and Mr. Estelle, you gave myself and my Grandparents so much

joy, God bless you gents on behalf of the E.D.L.! Peace! N.S.

  • this is great

  • Show them shoulders off, lovely boy!

  • Did you know that this is where the term "Grass" informer, comes from.

  • windsor davies is a true gent with such a great voice................lovely boy!!

  • Fantastic, the faces Windsor pulls are enough to win any talent show by itself!

  • wow!

  • They were a great pairing, I have their album and they are fantastic, complimenting each other very well.

  • Now that is scene stealing if I ever saw it. Windsor Davies, legend.

  • This is so cool what a neat voice the little guy has. Think Windsor Davies is very funny. Nice once. Great posting

  • absolutely fantastic

  • smile if you remember this :-)

  • one of my favourite sitcoms....come on GO! or 7mate...how about putting this one on.

  • What a terrific voice Done Estelle had! I'm learning how to sing and can now see how he was technically so good while having great 'song sense.'

  • Don Estelle - A voice of an angel!

  • Don Estelle, a little man with a huge voice.

  • Sing for me lofty.

  • a very sad and bittersweet song with many memorys three mins of talent that would wipe the floor with every x factor series. great stuff

  • 14 arseholes disliked this superb tune, must be ethnics, TWATS!!!

  • @yorkie6687 Doubt it-- I have a Paki pal who loved the show, as did all his family--he gave me all the old video's when he tranferred them to DVD.

Probably PC pc twats who disliked it, like the BBC twats pulled it off the air.

  • Windsor looks like my old Troop Sergeant.....eh Tiny....Sarge! Sarge!

There is only Three types of Sarge in the British Army.....DresSARGE....MasSARGE....and SauSARGE

  • I used to this song every day on radio two on wogan before going to school. It definately was one of the highlights of 1975.

  • such a wonderfully unique song and the voice of the guy wearing glasses is perfect for this song!

  • They so enjoyed doing that !

  • What a great voice Don had/has ?

  • I was talking to my father about this yesterday. We're English but we came to live in New Zealand in the late 70's. My dad said Don Estelle was very popular here in NZ and actually lived here for a while before he died. It is sad he didn't get the recognition he deserved in England but I'm glad he knew he had a fan base here.

  • I saw a sad thing a few years ago,Don Estelle was busking in Yeovil at the top of a car park. He could sing but I think he must have fell on hard times.

  • WOW! Thanks for this vid upload! LOVE Don Estelles voice! I STILL sing this even though I haven't seen it since i was LITTLE watching Top of The Pops!

Psychotic Windsor Davies! His eyes & deepness are great .

  • love the song, Windsor Davis is little strange thou

  • fookin great

  • audio a bit low

  • Perfect. Mr Davies, a performance that supports and entertains, Thank you.

  • Hi I am a big fan of Windsor Davies in Carry on England & Carry On Behind a good bloke

  • @discotruroman a good bloke and a very good comedy actor.

  • what a great voice. suprised we didn't get more of Mr estelle on vinyl back in the day

  • can't beat a bit of Davies and Estelle! PS - does anyone else find it bizarre how the thread to youtube videos like this often ends up with people threatening unpleasantries on one another? Surreal - doesn't go with the song somehow. What would Lofty & Windsor Davies say?

  • oh dear....... how sad........nevermind

  • "i will not ave gossip in this jungle"

  • Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright until they begin to speak thats to

    @mesmerizeme

    @flushorbluff

  • Great voice!!!! NICE.

  • They sure dont make em like this any more. You dont need talent these days to be a star fleeting fame is the game.

  • there is no doubt that windsor davies is performing the supporting role. the original song from the inkspots in 1940 had a guitar riff for starters then a tenor singing it through and a supporting voice speaking the words during: pretty much what is happening here. this is a faithful rendition. yes, don estelle does have a stunning voice for a little man. don't SHUT UP!!! don

  • Shame this guy didn't record any CDS ... just LPS ! Wonderful voice

  • 22nd May 1933 - 2nd August 2003. Don Estelle, who died on 2 August, 2003, at the age of 70, made his name as the character Lofty in 1970s sitcom ‘It Ain't Half Hot Mum’. Set in Burma during the Second World War, Mr Estelle played a camp military entertainer in the successful show. Away from the small screen Mr Estelle was a fine all round entertainer, using his powerful tenor voice to top the UK charts in 1975, when he and co-star, Windsor Davies, released a version of ' Whispering Grass '.

  • @mesmerizeme OWwwwwwwwwwwww someones just discovered wikipedia

  • @flushorbluff yes your in Wikipedia to it says your the worlds biggest cunt. Keep your sarky opinion to yourself no one in interested. I expect your queer live on your own and jerk off every hour. Spin and die of lung cancer you class one asshole. :)

  • @mesmerizeme I've not checked on wiki but as far as i know its a free country therefore i'm entitled to my opinion and in my opinion tis you who is the cunt so you just jog on and fuck yaself ya jumped up little twat

  • 13 dislikes?

Oh dear, how sad, never mind

  • Great to see Don Estelle and Windsor Davies were such good friends.

  • @GarryHarriman Great how people just Assume hey

  • I remember walking into Woolworths in Luton back in the 90's and Don Estelle was in there singing to promote an album. Shame that no one recognized him or paid him any attention

  • That has stuck in my memory for years. I wish the Beeb would show the series again.

  • Oooh, the 70s and 80s, how I long to go back to that time again, before the world went PC crazy,

  • @jrb1802uk Great comment!

  • I came across Don in a Woolworths store in Bridlington in 1983, he signed a record cover for me, a star to the end.

  • though he was Benny Hill at first..... great song dude

  • Brilliant. Such a powerful voice. Pity so many people are bagging Windsor Davies. He was (and still is) a great comic and talented actor. This was a stage take off of his persona on 'It ain't half hot mum' and should be veiwed in that context, as is Don Estelle as 'Lofty'.

  • Class

  • Recently bought the Aint half hot mum dvd collection as i only caught a handfull of shows growing up and love the cameraderie the cast all shared, there are moments when you can seem them barely able to stop breaking out in grins or guffaws diring scenes that really bring to home what a family they were.

  • Great song great voice, shame Winsor Davis had to spoil it

  • windser davis was so underated as an actor his work is just wonderful no one better as being a sargent and dons voice is golden brings back memerys of watching this as a kid

  • This would have been so much better without that TWAT windsor davies.

  • Wonderful!

  • Great voice Don. You were born out of your ideal time .. should have been singing alongside the inkspots

  • Have been singing this song for 35 years without finding out what song it was. Wow, now I know! Amazing!!!

  • Comment removed

  • He can't half sing mum!

  • Now I've got goosebumps

  • Lovely Voice God Bless Don Estelle

  • The little man's voice really does this song justice.

He actually has a very pleasant and vintage tone in the manner of his singing - he could easily have been a Correction Fluid Spot.

  • beautiful voice!

  • sing lofty! amazing singer

  • Magic! Don has a wonderful lyrical voice.

Love watching Windsor's facial expressions, very funny!

  • FAB

  • I loved these two and "It ain't Half Hot Mum" which was a favourite tv program in Zimbabwe right up until the mid eighties. This brings back so many memories.

  • LOVELY BOY LOVELY BOY!!!

  • performed bea -utifull

  • Puts that CD by 'The Soldiers' to shame.

  • I could do without the big guy ... but I love this. Thank you for posting it. ;)
