This is a beautiful video. I hope everyone realizes the timeless majesty of these wild mustangs of ours. What a rare gift we have in the horses. Also, I just finished reading a GREAT book, a novel on the subject of horse slaughter during the 1930s (historical fiction). The title is 'The Last Good Horse' by David Martin Anderson. I encourage everyone to go to the website, TheLastGoodHorse, and/or read the author interview posted to YouTube (search under the author's full name). Thanks!
Nicely done video! This is a serious problem that is also addressed in David Martin Anderson's just-released novel, 'The Last Good Horse.' I suggest listening to the author's YouTube interview by doing a YouTube search using his full name. The book is excellent (deals with the mass slaughter of our mustang herds in Montana during the 1930s; historical fiction) and should be mandatory reading for anyone over sixteen.
Love this video! You truly are a horse Angel! There is plenty of land for the horses, it is being given to cattle (less 5% used for USA meat), mineral extraction mining and greed. Give them the 19 million acres you took away and let them run free again and be with their herd.
I work with wild Mustangs taming them so they can be adopted out. Its not about the BLM removing them, they have to the land can't sustain so many. ok i love mustangs i was taught to ride bareback by one but you have to be reasonable the blm is not trying to destroy the mustangs they are trying to preserve them. you recognize that they are not a native species in you video. but what you don't recognize is that they have no natural predators. so their is no way to keep their numbers in line naturally in their un-natural habitat. they are
over grazing and destroying the habitat of natural species. the blm is stepping in as a middle man to try and preserve the horses not eliminate them by stopping them your condemning them.
you know these horses are so valuable and people sometimes lead them to no use cause they hurt them really bad but i would join to help pretect all horses from abuse slaughter and many things that are bad so come on people please also be a helpful one
i want ot get a mustang and train it my self like my aunt lin she got a white stallion and named him reno hes the best horse i have ever met in my life ADOPT ! the BML pays you $700 if you can tame a mustang and find a adopter . But they make it so hard to adopt you have to fill out so many piles of paper work and then you have to wait 6 months for your paper work to be prosessed then and only then can you look into adopting one its a horid adoption prosess you may think they care but they dont
well i have seen them take foals and call them (Surplus) and leave them for dead just google it and there are some happy stories where they make it and some where no matter what the vets do they pass .The BML is quite stupid half the horses if not adopted with in 1 year can be sold for slaughter or put down that is in there policy. They are BEYOND unorginized these are living breathing animals they just need to geld som stallions and use irth controll on some mares and that will help the horses.
Okay you have no idea what you are talking about. First they do not kill the horses because mustangs are protected by law. And they do use birth control on mares but eventually it wears off before they can give them more. And i have no idea what you are talking about as far as them leaving the foals. Do you mean that they dont help wild foals? Because it is true that they will not help them as long as they are wild.
There are many misconceptions here on both sides. The BLM does not pay to train. It is a private group that does this (Mustang Heritage Foundation). After 1 yr the BLM does not put them down or slaughter them, that is only allowed once a horse is titled to an individual and no longer govt property. The wranglers do care and many own mustangs as their private stock. If you have questions let me know. I am closely associated with the goings on, and own 4 mustangs here, along with good QH stock.
I agree with purecountry1231. My dad youst to help mustangs out. he would tag them meaning that if they got hert then the person who did it would get in big trouble. The tag also meant that the horse was protected. I am not lieing because my dad showed me pictures of the horses and of him on the job.
The alarming rate of removal and giving birth control to some ares will drive them into extinction..I ask only that you educate yourself to the facts before you close your eyes..start with the CLoud Foundation, who can provide much information and facts.
Keep telling yourself that what the BLM is what is best for the Mustangs...you are in denial or not well informed, nature will weed out the weak. Man is disturbing the eco balance of things, they are after the wolves too now and it will only continue to benefit the cattle and oil industries, this is about money not about the betterment of humanity and ecology of things! There are many horse suffering in holding of the BLM at cost to millions to tax payers..
Thats true nature will take out the weak mustangs but there are still to many. They have to make sure there is not so many that they will graze on rancher owned land. They are not trying to wipe out mustangs because they are protected by law. And I have been to where they hold the horses and they are treated fine.
i agree and they just took another 20million acers from the wild horses and now the gover ment is CLOSING ALL public trails and parks to equistrians so they are trying to weed out horse lovers to.
Love Mustangs. I have 2 and they are the best horses I have ever owned. Culling of the herds is a necessity for the BLM or else all of them would die of starvation. They try to leave the soundest, best conformed horses free to continue to build strong herds but they are just too plentiful. Besides, I am sure that mine are absolutely miserable here where they have access to food 24/7 and have good hoof care and vet care when they get sick. *rolls eyes*
The BLM cares alot about these Horses and I know this for a fact. We so quick to judge but we are blaming the wrong people. They are trying to save them from what the ranchers or whom ever is threatining them. Yes we need to save them they are beautiful animals and I have grown up owing some of them but before they can b saved people have to stop forcing them out of there homes and just leave the open Range ALONE!!!!!
The Blm is not to Blame it is the Ranchers that are moving out into the open range. They are closing off water and food to those horses. and for anyone who knows Mustangs they travel Miles and Miles just to get to that food and water. So the Rancher call BLM and tell them to get rid of these horses or they will. OK so the BLM has to go rescue them. Should they just relocate yes. But you know what stop blmaing the wrong people It is the ranchers that are wanteing them removed.
They cant relocate the horses. Yes the ranchers are part of the problem but the horses have no natural predators so the herds will just keep growing until there is not food left.
Yeah Right! These guys really no how to handle horses!?They are no more than a bunch of over zealous idiots with no more regard for those horses than they have for common vermin. That being understood! The BLM makes plenty of money off of the surplus horses that go to slaughter. Money to support the existing horses is not the issue. The BLM simply does not want the horses. PERIOD! Their objective is to reduce herd sizes by another fifty percent by 2015.Mark it down.
Thats not true the BLM cares about the horses a lot and they dont want to have to do this but if they did not then the horses would over populate because they have no natrual preditors and then they would starve to death because they would destroy all the grazing land and if they did not do something with the horses then the ranchers would kill them so not trying to be mean but please do some research before you post un true comments like this
The BLM currently doesn't currently have enough money to take care of the horses they have, and are still taking in more. There are plans for them to start euthanizing horses. Well, I have an idea, How About You Leave Them Where They Are And Stop Taking Them!
because if the BLM did not do something with the horses then they would eat all the grazing land and starve to death and the farmers would kill them and they are killing horses that dont get homes so that they can take in more so if you want to help the horses then go adopt one
BLM is an abbreviation for Bureau of Land Management. BLM is part of the US government agency called the United States Department of the Interior. They are responsible for managing approximately 264 million acres of public land. The wild mustang live on that land. It is the responsibility of the BLM to see that the horses are taken care of and to do that, sometimes they have to be rounded up to decrease the number of mouths to feed, so they don't starve to death. It is a necessary evil.
(cont.) Having said that... I do NOT believe they should be slaughtered if they are not adopted. There has to be a better way and I think that should also be a responsibility of the BLM. Their job shouldn't end after the round-ups. It should continue until every horse has a new home. FIND A WAY BLM, it's your job to protect the wildlife that is on or comes from public land. Public land meaning -land belonging to the US citizens. Those are my animals and land and I want them treated with respect.
Fire Fly, I hope you realize that it's not the BLMs choice to slaughter the mustangs. The government doesn't have enough money to feed them and not enough people are adopting due to the horse economy currently. I'm not saying that they should be slaughtered (because I don't think they should), but it's not the BLMs fault. Also, they have started euthanizing (not good, but better than slaughter) the mustangs. Any way, if you hate this so much, why don't you adopt one?
sheepgirl66~ I have stated that the mustangs are a responsibility of the BLM. I certainly did NOT imply that the BLM enjoys slaughtering mustangs nor do I think the BLM is at fault. Lord knows, the mustangs would be in much worse shape if the BLM were not involved. My statement was to encourage the BLM and other organizations to try and find a better way to handle the "slaughter" issue.
(cont.)That could be through education, through incentives for people to adopt, a number of things and I certainly don't have all the answers. If I were in a position to adopt the mustangs myself, I would. I DO, however, donate my time and money to people who do/have adopted mustangs. I have also donated money to the BLM directly.
(cont.)It is my civic duty as a US citizen, to see that our branches of govt. are following the laws, utilizing the money they do receive correctly, and that they are doing their job to the best of their ability. If they cannot do their job, it is my responsibility as a citizen to get involved, find out why, and do what I can to help.
REPEAT ANSWER : That could be through education, through incentives for people to adopt, a number of things and I certainly don't have all the answers. Now...maybe in all your infinite knowledge of mustangs(because I did see your parents adopted one for you), government finances and the BLM, you could share YOUR solution. And I hope for the sake of those mustangs who weren't adopted by your parents, your answer is something other than euthanasia. Well, what is YOUR solution?
First off, you have to be 18 or older to adopt, that's why my parents got me one, so I would appreciate if you stopped treating me like a snobby stuck up kid. Second, that didn't even come close to answering my question. Third, I don't have an answer, that's why I'm not knocking the BLM. If you can't come up with an answer, stop putting them down for doing their job.
sheepgirl66~ People get treated by the way they behave. And for the record, I didn't "knock the BLM". You should try to not just read, but COMPREHEND the information being presented to you in someone's comment. 1) Scroll up and read my previous comments. 2) Try to comprehend my comments for their face value.
3) Stop trying to fight with me. I know this may be hard to understand, but this is not about YOU. This fight is for the mustangs. So, be part of the solution and NOT part of the problem.
I don't think you understand, I do care about the horses, much more than I care about arguing with you, which is why this is my last comment. Saving more horses comes with a cost. Do you realize that there are estimated to be 30,000 wild horses on BLM range land right now? In order to save those horses they need to do something with the horses they already have in the corrals.
(CONT)What happens when no one adopts those horses and they have no money to feed them with? Euthanization is better than starvation any day. Why don't you volunteer for the BLM and help the mustangs out that way? At least I do that, and try, as opposed to simply complaining about what other people are trying to do to help.
It's not that you have a mustang that makes you snob, it's your supercilious comments. And if you had done like I suggested... read and comprehend my previous comments you would have seen that I already stated the obvious..."It is the responsibility of the BLM to see that the horses are taken care of and to do that, sometimes they have to be rounded up to decrease the number of mouths to feed, so they don't starve to death. It is a necessary evil."
You, I am afraid, are as dense as a board fence. You only hear what you want and you insist on reiterating (that means repeating) the points I've already made to, in turn, make your case. This is MY final comment to you because you obviously have fallen off one too many horses or been kicked in the head by one. Continue your efforts for the mustangs and please do us all a favor and wear a helmet when you ride.
i think u both have good points. the blm probably isnt doing the right thing but again its not entiarlly their fault. im hoping to adopt a mustang in april but untill then im trying to help them. it doesnt help the mustangs to have u two arguing with each other! get up and Help!
Well Thunder (my mustang) Has strong feet and is naturally collected...tips..well they have good jumping skills so you can use them for cross country or endurance racing because they have really hard feet. They NEVER need shoeing because of their feet. If there is anything you need to know u can always email me!
I have a mustang gelding! I have found them to be Easily trained, most hve good sound minds and are easy keepers. Awsome trail horses (duh) but also good endurance, jumping, and pleasure horses. you can go anywhere with them. I found it easiest to bond with your horse before trying any training. let them figure you out before you try tofigure them out. just my personal advice.
Attend a BLM adoption and you will see something you don't see in the Save the Mustang videos. That something is more than 1 corral full of quiet, long haired, grey, nappy wild adult donkeys for adoption. I heard not a single EE-AH the entire time I was around them. Fortunately the BLM will care for those who remain unadopted. They are not a popular animal. I take my hat off to the BLM for treating them so kindly, as I witnessed.
I've stood next to the horses and the BLM as the horses are loaded into the trailers. The horses are in groups of five or so. The BLM opens a gate, the horses run out and into the chute that forces them into a single file and slow down so they don't get hurt. Not one horse was struck by hand or any item. Prior, I saw several be adopted and loaded onto private trailers with kind owners.
One would think the BLM will do anything to get these horses off their hands and into a new home, but they care more than that. They do a backgrnd check to see if you have any convictions of inhumane treatment to animals. They confirm you are financially able to house, feed, and provide vet and ferrier care. There are space, safe-fencing, shelter, and trailer requirements. They care. Watch the video- not a hand, whip, or stick is laid on a single horse. If anything, the guy looks concerned
Those who feel they should run free, understand they live a much better life under the care of a loving owner. Imagine if we set all our dogs and cats "free." Which life do you think they would prefer? Horses that are taken care of LOVE their owners. Most horses will run to their favorite owner when called. Many horses will even go out of their way to make you feel loved in return and make you laugh. I love em :)
They are beautiful souls- I have looked in their eyes. They are round up by the BLM. They panic and run in every direction, due to unfamiliarity with humans, when needing to move to another location. They are treated as gently as possible (notice no beatings) and guided through metal fencing to load them on/off trucks without smothering each other. They are then driven to places where horse owners are and offered for adoption. However, most people want a horse with pure blood lines. So,
like a human orphan, they go back to the BLM stables where they receive food, medicine, and professional care from the BLM in hopes that one day they will be adopted. The reason for all this? It is my understanding that they are breeding too fast and consequently consuming the open vegetation that our beef and dairy industry wants to graze on. I personally plan on owning several hundred acres of land and adopting 12-24 of them, so don't think I don't care. It will cost a lot to care for them
There are currenrly less then 30,000 wild horses left living on the range. There are over 200 cattle for every wild horse. The BLM only allows 1 horse per 2600 acres. Claiming range degrigation by wild horses, when in fact, it is the cattle which cause most of the destruction. Science has PROVEN wild horses are Native American Wildlife, just as Deer and Elk are. It takes a minimum of 250 horses to keep genetic viability, yet many HMA's are down to less then 60 horses.
Ergo; Wild horses that do not get adopted, do go back to the BLM for 2 more attempts, after which, they are deemed unadoptable and move to the "3 strikes" or "Sale Authority" catagory, which then endangers them to slaughter as BLM is required per the Burns Ammendment to sell them "Without Limitation to the highest bidder" all mustangs over 1- years of age automatically fall into this catagory :(
This is American history we need to save these wild horses. these horses are ment for the wild. they were not for us to ride they are not ment for slautghter we need to protect them and enjoy them from a distance or a picture. not in a pasture.
we need to save as many as possible there being treated like just toys for us to ride. Hello there animals with just as much freedom and so many can get hurt everyday from humans. WE should really think about what we do before we hurt these animals that deserve to be free for out own amusment.
In the wild, they risk cougar attacks, accidental injury, famine, dehydration, illness, and more. As an adopted horse, they may end up with acres and acres of alfalfa to graze on, protection from harm, limitless water, protection from pests that leave welts and get in their eyes, tons of love and affection, shelter, 100% protection at night, looked over every night for any signs of illness or injury, provided medicine as needed, and much more. There are even day spas for horses.
:'( Any time I watch videos like this it realy chokes me up, makes me all the more proud that I have my Mustang :( these horses are not given their full credit their ever bit as good as any other horse - they can be used a trail horses , ranch horses, pleasure, dressage anything! But some people wont give them a chance...... :(
ladybloodrose nailed it. I was a "pure blood only" horse lover until I hand fed, touched, and looked into the eyes of wild mustangs available for adoption. It was at a horse show were all entries were required to be former wild horses. I saw one of the most beautiful paints there I had ever seen. I saw 5 year olds and younger ride them. I saw a girl ride hers bareback and without a bridle. I saw 100+ people who loved their horses even though they are "genetically impure." It was unreal.
A ferrier that used to trima n shoe my horses back before I ever got a mustang was always so... Anti Mustang. Anytime I talked about them he went on about how untrainable, unpridictable they are. How they will tear threw your fences an destroy your barn an all that crap.. They just need a chance, an ya know I love it whenever I watch a horse show, or a barrel race an I see a Mustang competing against Qh etc. These guys got it all an then some on their "captive" cousins.
On a famous site that is popular for personal pics and data, I have a photo album labeled "Wild Horses (aka Mustangs)" that shows pics I shot of children competing in jumping, speed events, and presentation events on these "impure, non-trainable, unpredictable, destructive pests." I have pics of the wild ones for adoption coming to the gate, with the same "adopt me" look in their eye and body language as a puppy in an animal shelter. One paint was the most beautiful paint I have ever seen.
The most mustang-phobic seem to be those who fear your mustang getting loose and impregnating one of their "pure blood" horses, though the BLM castrates the stallions before offering them for adoption. Heaven forbid their "pure blood" stallion impregnates ones "impure blood" mustang mare, hehe.
It isn't a quandry. The Fish and Wildlife Dept, US Forestry Dept. and the Bureau of Land Management have been waging war on the wild horses for decades. Go to wildhorsepreservation website to get the true story of what is happening. Most are going to slaughter in Canada and Mexico, the roundups are making millions of dollars for the companies doing them. The horses are starved, die of thirst, foals are run to death. Why? So that hunters and ranchers can use OUR LAND for their use. Ck it out
Such a quandary; there isn't enough space for all of them in the wild, but not enough people adopt them. The ones not adopted hardly find a humane end. Definitely something needs to be done.
The very first horse I ever owned was a mustang mare. This horse was the best horse I ever had. I learned so much from her.

i want ot get a mustang and train it my self like my aunt lin she got a white stallion and named him reno hes the best horse i have ever met in my life ADOPT ! the BML pays you $700 if you can tame a mustang and find a adopter . But they make it so hard to adopt you have to fill out so many piles of paper work and then you have to wait 6 months for your paper work to be prosessed then and only then can you look into adopting one its a horid adoption prosess you may think they care but they dont
HorsesAreMyPassion05 2 years ago
I dont think thats true. The BLM cares they are just (like many other government run programs) very unorganized.
xxC1overCandyxx 2 years ago
well i have seen them take foals and call them (Surplus) and leave them for dead just google it and there are some happy stories where they make it and some where no matter what the vets do they pass .The BML is quite stupid half the horses if not adopted with in 1 year can be sold for slaughter or put down that is in there policy. They are BEYOND unorginized these are living breathing animals they just need to geld som stallions and use irth controll on some mares and that will help the horses.
HorsesAreMyPassion05 2 years ago
Okay you have no idea what you are talking about. First they do not kill the horses because mustangs are protected by law. And they do use birth control on mares but eventually it wears off before they can give them more. And i have no idea what you are talking about as far as them leaving the foals. Do you mean that they dont help wild foals? Because it is true that they will not help them as long as they are wild.
xxC1overCandyxx 2 years ago

TheVelvetKitten1 2 years ago
Keep telling yourself that what the BLM is what is best for the Mustangs...you are in denial or not well informed, nature will weed out the weak. Man is disturbing the eco balance of things, they are after the wolves too now and it will only continue to benefit the cattle and oil industries, this is about money not about the betterment of humanity and ecology of things! There are many horse suffering in holding of the BLM at cost to millions to tax payers..
TheVelvetKitten1 2 years ago
Thats true nature will take out the weak mustangs but there are still to many. They have to make sure there is not so many that they will graze on rancher owned land. They are not trying to wipe out mustangs because they are protected by law. And I have been to where they hold the horses and they are treated fine.
xxC1overCandyxx 2 years ago
i agree and they just took another 20million acers from the wild horses and now the gover ment is CLOSING ALL public trails and parks to equistrians so they are trying to weed out horse lovers to.
HorsesAreMyPassion05 2 years ago
Love Mustangs. I have 2 and they are the best horses I have ever owned. Culling of the herds is a necessity for the BLM or else all of them would die of starvation. They try to leave the soundest, best conformed horses free to continue to build strong herds but they are just too plentiful. Besides, I am sure that mine are absolutely miserable here where they have access to food 24/7 and have good hoof care and vet care when they get sick. *rolls eyes*

I love mustangs! Does anyone know where the real life Spirit lives?
wubbzie83 2 years ago
You do know that was just a Disney movie right? If you want to be technical, every herd stallion is a different version of "the real life Spirit".
Smrobs84 2 years ago
The BLM cares alot about these Horses and I know this for a fact. We so quick to judge but we are blaming the wrong people. They are trying to save them from what the ranchers or whom ever is threatining them. Yes we need to save them they are beautiful animals and I have grown up owing some of them but before they can b saved people have to stop forcing them out of there homes and just leave the open Range ALONE!!!!!
purecountry1231 2 years ago
The Blm is not to Blame it is the Ranchers that are moving out into the open range. They are closing off water and food to those horses. and for anyone who knows Mustangs they travel Miles and Miles just to get to that food and water. So the Rancher call BLM and tell them to get rid of these horses or they will. OK so the BLM has to go rescue them. Should they just relocate yes. But you know what stop blmaing the wrong people It is the ranchers that are wanteing them removed.
purecountry1231 2 years ago

JerseyRenegade 3 years ago
Thats not true the BLM cares about the horses a lot and they dont want to have to do this but if they did not then the horses would over populate because they have no natrual preditors and then they would starve to death because they would destroy all the grazing land and if they did not do something with the horses then the ranchers would kill them so not trying to be mean but please do some research before you post un true comments like this
xxC1overCandyxx 2 years ago
The BLM currently doesn't currently have enough money to take care of the horses they have, and are still taking in more. There are plans for them to start euthanizing horses. Well, I have an idea, How About You Leave Them Where They Are And Stop Taking Them!
truthstorm 3 years ago
because if the BLM did not do something with the horses then they would eat all the grazing land and starve to death and the farmers would kill them and they are killing horses that dont get homes so that they can take in more so if you want to help the horses then go adopt one
xxC1overCandyxx 2 years ago
what is BLM I love mustangs they are so beautiful
andreat345 3 years ago
BLM is an abbreviation for Bureau of Land Management. BLM is part of the US government agency called the United States Department of the Interior. They are responsible for managing approximately 264 million acres of public land. The wild mustang live on that land. It is the responsibility of the BLM to see that the horses are taken care of and to do that, sometimes they have to be rounded up to decrease the number of mouths to feed, so they don't starve to death. It is a necessary evil.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
(cont.) Having said that... I do NOT believe they should be slaughtered if they are not adopted. There has to be a better way and I think that should also be a responsibility of the BLM. Their job shouldn't end after the round-ups. It should continue until every horse has a new home. FIND A WAY BLM, it's your job to protect the wildlife that is on or comes from public land. Public land meaning -land belonging to the US citizens. Those are my animals and land and I want them treated with respect.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
Fire Fly, I hope you realize that it's not the BLMs choice to slaughter the mustangs. The government doesn't have enough money to feed them and not enough people are adopting due to the horse economy currently. I'm not saying that they should be slaughtered (because I don't think they should), but it's not the BLMs fault. Also, they have started euthanizing (not good, but better than slaughter) the mustangs. Any way, if you hate this so much, why don't you adopt one?
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
sorry, that was supposed to be a reply...
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
sheepgirl66~ I have stated that the mustangs are a responsibility of the BLM. I certainly did NOT imply that the BLM enjoys slaughtering mustangs nor do I think the BLM is at fault. Lord knows, the mustangs would be in much worse shape if the BLM were not involved. My statement was to encourage the BLM and other organizations to try and find a better way to handle the "slaughter" issue.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
(cont.)That could be through education, through incentives for people to adopt, a number of things and I certainly don't have all the answers. If I were in a position to adopt the mustangs myself, I would. I DO, however, donate my time and money to people who do/have adopted mustangs. I have also donated money to the BLM directly.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
(cont.)It is my civic duty as a US citizen, to see that our branches of govt. are following the laws, utilizing the money they do receive correctly, and that they are doing their job to the best of their ability. If they cannot do their job, it is my responsibility as a citizen to get involved, find out why, and do what I can to help.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
firefly, If you were in charge, what would your solution be?
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
REPEAT ANSWER : That could be through education, through incentives for people to adopt, a number of things and I certainly don't have all the answers. Now...maybe in all your infinite knowledge of mustangs(because I did see your parents adopted one for you), government finances and the BLM, you could share YOUR solution. And I hope for the sake of those mustangs who weren't adopted by your parents, your answer is something other than euthanasia. Well, what is YOUR solution?
firefly4tori 3 years ago
First off, you have to be 18 or older to adopt, that's why my parents got me one, so I would appreciate if you stopped treating me like a snobby stuck up kid. Second, that didn't even come close to answering my question. Third, I don't have an answer, that's why I'm not knocking the BLM. If you can't come up with an answer, stop putting them down for doing their job.
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
sheepgirl66~ People get treated by the way they behave.
So, be part of the solution and NOT part of the problem.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
I don't think you understand, I do care about the horses, much more than I care about arguing with you, which is why this is my last comment. Saving more horses comes with a cost. Do you realize that there are estimated to be 30,000 wild horses on BLM range land right now? In order to save those horses they need to do something with the horses they already have in the corrals.
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
(CONT)What happens when no one adopts those horses and they have no money to feed them with? Euthanization is better than starvation any day. Why don't you volunteer for the BLM and help the mustangs out that way? At least I do that, and try, as opposed to simply complaining about what other people are trying to do to help.
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
I also love the fact that just because my parents bought me a horse means I'm a snob. A $125 horse at that.
sheepgirl66 3 years ago
It's not that you have a mustang that makes you snob, it's your supercilious comments. And if you had done like I suggested... read and comprehend my previous comments you would have seen that I already stated the obvious..."It is the responsibility of the BLM to see that the horses are taken care of and to do that, sometimes they have to be rounded up to decrease the number of mouths to feed, so they don't starve to death. It is a necessary evil."
firefly4tori 3 years ago
You, I am afraid, are as dense as a board fence. You only hear what you want and you insist on reiterating (that means repeating) the points I've already made to, in turn, make your case. This is MY final comment to you because you obviously have fallen off one too many horses or been kicked in the head by one. Continue your efforts for the mustangs and please do us all a favor and wear a helmet when you ride.
firefly4tori 3 years ago
i think u both have good points. the blm probably isnt doing the right thing but again its not entiarlly their fault. im hoping to adopt a mustang in april but untill then im trying to help them. it doesnt help the mustangs to have u two arguing with each other! get up and Help!

Well Thunder (my mustang) Has strong feet and is naturally collected...tips..well they have good jumping skills so you can use them for cross country or endurance racing because they have really hard feet. They NEVER need shoeing because of their feet. If there is anything you need to know u can always email me!
FriesianFeathers 3 years ago

I take my hat off to the BLM for treating them so kindly, as I witnessed.
mikedilv 3 years ago
I've stood next to the horses and the BLM as the horses are loaded into the trailers. The horses are in groups of five or so. The BLM opens a gate, the horses run out and into the chute that forces them into a single file and slow down so they don't get hurt. Not one horse was struck by hand or any item. Prior, I saw several be adopted and loaded onto private trailers with kind owners.
mikedilv 3 years ago
One would think the BLM will do anything to get these horses off their hands and into a new home, but they care more than that. They do a backgrnd check to see if you have any convictions of inhumane treatment to animals. They confirm you are financially able to house, feed, and provide vet and ferrier care. There are space, safe-fencing, shelter, and trailer requirements. They care. Watch the video- not a hand, whip, or stick is laid on a single horse. If anything, the guy looks concerned
mikedilv 3 years ago
Those who feel they should run free, understand they live a much better life under the care of a loving owner. Imagine if we set all our dogs and cats "free." Which life do you think they would prefer? Horses that are taken care of LOVE their owners. Most horses will run to their favorite owner when called. Many horses will even go out of their way to make you feel loved in return and make you laugh. I love em :)
mikedilv 3 years ago
They are beautiful souls- I have looked in their eyes. They are round up by the BLM. They panic and run in every direction, due to unfamiliarity with humans, when needing to move to another location. They are treated as gently as possible (notice no beatings) and guided through metal fencing to load them on/off trucks without smothering each other. They are then driven to places where horse owners are and offered for adoption. However, most people want a horse with pure blood lines. So,
mikedilv 3 years ago
like a human orphan, they go back to the BLM stables where they receive food, medicine, and professional care from the BLM in hopes that one day they will be adopted. The reason for all this? It is my understanding that they are breeding too fast and consequently consuming the open vegetation that our beef and dairy industry wants to graze on. I personally plan on owning several hundred acres of land and adopting 12-24 of them, so don't think I don't care. It will cost a lot to care for them
mikedilv 3 years ago
There are currenrly less then 30,000 wild horses left living on the range. There are over 200 cattle for every wild horse. The BLM only allows 1 horse per 2600 acres. Claiming range degrigation by wild horses, when in fact, it is the cattle which cause most of the destruction. Science has PROVEN wild horses are Native American Wildlife, just as Deer and Elk are. It takes a minimum of 250 horses to keep genetic viability, yet many HMA's are down to less then 60 horses.
Learn the truth
MustangBlueWY 3 years ago
Ergo; Wild horses that do not get adopted, do go back to the BLM for 2 more attempts, after which, they are deemed unadoptable and move to the "3 strikes" or "Sale Authority" catagory, which then endangers them to slaughter as BLM is required per the Burns Ammendment to sell them "Without Limitation to the highest bidder" all mustangs over 1- years of age automatically fall into this catagory :(

This is American history we need to save these wild horses. these horses are ment for the wild. they were not for us to ride they are not ment for slautghter we need to protect them and enjoy them from a distance or a picture. not in a pasture.
trottinghorse16 3 years ago
we need to save as many as possible there being treated like just toys for us to ride. Hello there animals with just as much freedom and so many can get hurt everyday from humans. WE should really think about what we do before we hurt these animals that deserve to be free for out own amusment.
Xoanimegirl4lifeXo 3 years ago
In the wild, they risk cougar attacks, accidental injury, famine, dehydration, illness, and more. As an adopted horse, they may end up with acres and acres of alfalfa to graze on, protection from harm, limitless water, protection from pests that leave welts and get in their eyes, tons of love and affection, shelter, 100% protection at night, looked over every night for any signs of illness or injury, provided medicine as needed, and much more. There are even day spas for horses.

its kinda ba bad in both ways but at least we can try to safe them. Human can do more damage as well.

ladybloodrose 3 years ago
ladybloodrose nailed it. I saw 100+ people who loved their horses even though they are "genetically impure." It was unreal.
mikedilv 3 years ago
A ferrier that used to trima n shoe my horses back before I ever got a mustang was always so... Anti Mustang. Anytime I talked about them he went on about how untrainable, unpridictable they are. How they will tear threw your fences an destroy your barn an all that crap.. They just need a chance, an ya know I love it whenever I watch a horse show, or a barrel race an I see a Mustang competing against Qh etc. These guys got it all an then some on their "captive" cousins.
ladybloodrose 3 years ago
On a famous site that is popular for personal pics and data, I have a photo album labeled "Wild Horses (aka Mustangs)" that shows pics I shot of children competing in jumping, speed events, and presentation events on these "impure, non-trainable, unpredictable, destructive pests." I have pics of the wild ones for adoption coming to the gate, with the same "adopt me" look in their eye and body language as a puppy in an animal shelter. One paint was the most beautiful paint I have ever seen.
mikedilv 3 years ago
The most mustang-phobic seem to be those who fear your mustang getting loose and impregnating one of their "pure blood" horses, though the BLM castrates the stallions before offering them for adoption. Heaven forbid their "pure blood" stallion impregnates ones "impure blood" mustang mare, hehe.

lol! Oh yes heaven forbid ^_^.
Oo if you would send me a pm with the link to the site i would love to see the pics ^_^

Ck it out
fishmarc 3 years ago
Such a quandary; there isn't enough space for all of them in the wild, but not enough people adopt them. The ones not adopted hardly find a humane end. Definitely something needs to be done.
