The Descendants story sort of reminds me of my own. My grandfather wanted to move on after his wife passed away (reminds me of Elizabeth), so he wanted to sell his old house. And because of the location, my family could make a profit. My grandfather has 12 children by the way. And we are close to getting a real buyer... :') Makes me cry
I GOT PICTURES WHEN HE USE TO COME NANAKULI EVERY WEEKEND MY GRANDPA'S HOUSE, BACK YARD PARTY WITH DA OLD TIMERS, MY DAD DEM,MY UNCLES, BRADDAH IZ AND SKIPPY, AND DA NUUANU BROTHERS AND DA HOUSEMOVERS FROM RICHARD LEE TRUCKING AND AMERICAN HAULING TRUCKING. DAY USE TO PARTY,SMOKE SESSIONS AND JAM.
Mahalo Nui Loa for posting this! Everybody that watches this video, and everyone who reposts this song, is helping to save Hawaii, one mele at a time. Let's make Gabby proud! Mahalo a Nui!
Many years ago, I was completely unaware of Hawaiian Slack Key guitar as a great style and cultural tradition until I noticed that Ry Cooder had recorded an album with this Slack Key legend! I have Ry to thank for broadening my awareness and taste when it comes to world musics in so many areas!!
Saw Gabby years and years ago at the old Blaisdell Hotel. Sat in the rain to watch him and went again the next night. He had a spirit and a feeling that no Hawaiian musician has had since.
Wow.This is one of the greatest movements on You Tube.Look at Gabbys Eyes.!He`s so connected to Mother Earth. He can feel it all.He has an Inner Wisdom that will outdo any educated fool at the University.
Everytime Gabby plays Hi`ilawe, sounds different, new. Never gets old. Mahalo piha for helping keep traditional Hawaiian music alive. You do so by sharing your father's music and by continuing the musical legacy by virtue of your own fine talents on `ukulele.
This is a great song. I also love the IZ version!

Who was the single person who disliked this? They have no appreciation of culture or art...

So true, so true! Gabby occupies the same existential pantheon as John Coltrane, as Bob Marley, as Ravi Shankar. Mana nui loa, e hoʻomanamana.
