  • This is a great song. I also love the IZ version!

  • Ry Cooder "Yellow Roses" from Chicken skin music features some of Hawaii's best. One of my all time fav recordings.

  • The Descendants story sort of reminds me of my own. My grandfather wanted to move on after his wife passed away (reminds me of Elizabeth), so he wanted to sell his old house. And because of the location, my family could make a profit. My grandfather has 12 children by the way. And we are close to getting a real buyer... :') Makes me cry

  • I fell in love with Hawaiian music after watching The Descendants.

  • @AstatineMime Astonished by it . Imagined it waw all twanging guitars . Never knew it was this haunting.

  • Who was the single person who disliked this? They have no appreciation of culture or art...

  • Aloha wao ia oi anakala gabby, mahalo ke akua no kou mele, maikai no kou puuwai kou mele, e hoomao kou mele no ka manawa apau, aloha nui

Now you can buy it, because it was in the film "The Descendants". There are also more songs from him :)

  • Mahalo Nui Loa for posting this! Everybody that watches this video, and everyone who reposts this song, is helping to save Hawaii, one mele at a time. Let's make Gabby proud! Mahalo a Nui!

  • Many years ago, I was completely unaware of Hawaiian Slack Key guitar as a great style and cultural tradition until I noticed that Ry Cooder had recorded an album with this Slack Key legend! I have Ry to thank for broadening my awareness and taste when it comes to world musics in so many areas!!

  • Gabby is just the very best. His music is the greatest.

  • Saw Gabby years and years ago at the old Blaisdell Hotel. Sat in the rain to watch him and went again the next night. He had a spirit and a feeling that no Hawaiian musician has had since.

  • Wow.This is one of the greatest movements on You Tube.Look at Gabbys Eyes.!He`s so connected to Mother Earth. He can feel it all.He has an Inner Wisdom that will outdo any educated fool at the University.

  • We love Gabby, thanks for sharing. Aloha!

  • Mahalo nui for posting. Gabby is the master.

  • that's my great uncle Gabby, my grandma Lani's brother; mahalos for putting this up-

  • thank you so much for uploading this video again! it means a lot to be able to watch it.

  • Ive watched this 10+ times in the 3 days its been online.

  • Everytime Gabby plays Hi`ilawe, sounds different, new. Never gets old. Mahalo piha for helping keep traditional Hawaiian music alive. You do so by sharing your father's music and by continuing the musical legacy by virtue of your own fine talents on `ukulele.

    Me ke aloha,

    Auntie Wanda

  • @wjc1952

So true, so true! Gabby occupies the same existential pantheon as John Coltrane, as Bob Marley, as Ravi Shankar. Mana nui loa, e hoʻomanamana.

  • Treasures!

  • Mahalo for Sharing these Video's of the Master. Truly Appreciate Seeing and Listening to them.
