This song brought me to my knees, on the floor at the foot of my bed, crying... and just seconds before that, I was sitting down, slouched in my computer chair.
Thank you Mr. Atkins for this great gift of a song. Rest in Peace.
When this video started, I figured I'd write some kind of comment about how much class Chet had, since I have listened to a lot of stuff by him. Now I don't have the words to express my original comment idea. Whatever I would write would sound cheap.
Chet keeps his thumbpick put on during the whole interview. Some other guy told me Chet was wearing a pick on his beef bazooka too. But I don't believe it too much.
He was the real article. Great setup on the rooster joke. He made it look so easy. Tommy Emmanurl plays that song at every concert becuase Chet wanted it kept alive for future generations. It's a wonderful song, written by Bob Blinn and Jimmy Moore.
He was such a treasure. Royalty in country music. I miss him and Jerry Reed very much. They were both so very distinctive in the ways they played. I think Dan Miller used to interview Jerry alot. Chet also had a sense of humor...but could also tug at your heart. Anyone who has a dry eye after hearing "I Still Can't Say Goodbye" doesn't have a heart. Rest in Peace Chet...we miss you.
What an amzing man Chet Atkins.
