  • Thank You So Very Much, four years after you posted this beautiful song it still brings so much joy. I appreciate you staying true to the way the music was composed. Your ear and technique combined with your wonderful talent with guitar arrangements is nothing less than pure excellence. Again Thank You for being who you are and posting such great renditions, keep up the great work, you make a lot of people very happy with your truly marvelous talent.

  • @tropicical

    thanks a lot!

  • This is truly a great version of Senza Fine. Listening to you play it, is inspirational. Where did you get the music for this beautiful song?

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing your gift and such a beautiful masterpiece! You made my day!

  • wow that is great. you made me fall in love = ) you wouldnt happen to have any tabs laying around? if not its okay but great job!

  • Oustanding rendition of a gorgeous song. Thank you so much.

  • Hi, I like this song very very much and I also like the way you play it. I am learning to play guitar for six months now. I've been searching all the Internet to find some guitar tabs for this song but with no success. It would be very kind of you If you could help me with the tabs. I am not skillful enough to sing it by ear :) ... Thanks and keep up the good work !

  • Does "Senza Fine" pre-date "The Flight of the Phoenix," the 1965 movie in which it is heard? I thought it had been nominated for an Academy Award that year, but I could be wrong. If it was not an original composition for the film, it probably would not have been elgible. ??

  • @50Emerald

good question. not sure. maybe someone else can answer. Was "FOTP" an Italian film?

  • @troubleclef It looks like "Senza Fine" has been around since 1961, with copyrighted versions in 1964 and 1965, also. It, in fact, was not nominated for Best Song in 1965, so I stand corrected. It's a beautiful song and you do a terrific job in presenting it.

  • Comment removed

  • @troubleclef "FOTP" was an American film starring Jimmy Stewart. It's about a plane that crashes in the desert, and the survivors make a new plane out of the wreckage (as in "rising from the ashes"). Paoli recorded his version some time earlier. Since Connie Francis sang it in the movie, it's a new arrangement, and is therefore eligible for an Oscar, if I remember correctly.

  • @troubleclef “Senza Fine” was written especially for The Flight of the Phoenix, a USA production. Later, Alec Wilder wrote English language lyrics for it. I have three 45 rpm singles of different versions, including one by Ornella Vanoni where one side is Italian and the flip is English.

  • @50Emerald Senza fine was the B-side of a 45 RPM by Gino Paoli named "Gli innamorati sono sempre soli/Senza fine ", released in 1961.....so I think that movie rearranged it.

  • This is a very beautiful rendition of Senza Fine by the incomparable Troubleclef. I think that the version that is most familar to Americans of a certain age is the one performed by the Brass Ring. This was around the same time that the movie, Flight of the Phoenix, was released (1965?) in which the song was featured.

  • Lindo!!!!!

  • can you post those chords?

  • you are wonderful! thanks for the upload!

  • Bello da morire! BRAVO!

  • Beautifully played. Lovely.

  • Very great version!!!!

    Ciao

  • Wow. Very nicely done. You may want to check out the Wes Montgomery instrumental and the Boz Scagg vocal versions.

  • bravo, sir!

  • A beautiful performance. Thank you so much for posting this...may your fingers live a long and happy life!

  • Oh, but this is the famous italian song of great Gino Paoli! Beautiful guitar version! I love Gino Paoli!

    Ju

  • yes indeed. i wish i could find some recordings of Gino. can you recommend any? thanks.

  • You rock man...

  • Great job, troubleclef! Senza Fine is one of my favourite songs and your sweet, low-key version is especially lovely. Keep up the great work!

  • complimenti..!!!! troppo bella.

  • I love this song so much.. i keep listening to this video from hours.. thank you very much ^^

  • Sounds so lovely!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL PLAYING MASTER !!!

  • Sei un grande!You're the best!Gino Paoli's song.

  • I remember this song from the film when I was just a teenager and it brings back such fond memories for me. I am a professional musician and you do indeed play this beautifully. thankyou so much x

  • Bravissimo, complimenti!

  • God bless your hands Sir, you played this beautifully!!

  • This is one of my favourite tunes, and this guy has really inspired me to learn it on guitar!

Thankyou so much it makes me feel like I am back home in Rome, where I used to hear it played in Piazza Navona. Grazie mille signor.. grazie!!!

  • mille grazie to you too.

  • SUPER bye from SLOVENIA

    Egon

  • just beautiful. thank you.

  • Very nice take on "Senza Fine," Troubleclef. I've been a fan of this great song for years and play it on the chromatic harmonica. I first heard it in the 1965 movie, "The Flight of the Phoenix" where it was played through a radio at the aiplane crash site. I believe the song was nominated for the Academy Award that year and lost out to "The Shadow of Your Smile" from "The Sandpiper, " starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Again, excellent guitar-playing!

  • And it was Connie Francis who was singing it in "The Flight of the Phoenix."She did a beautiful job on this song.

  • One of my all-time favorite songs, beautifully played. In the past, I've played the portion of it that I knew by ear in E. Then I tried C and D. You're choice of B is very interesting -- not normally a guitar key. I've been learning the whole song off of your video, while trying to understand all the chord forms. Thanks.

  • true. b is a strange key for a guitar arrangement (i just learned it that way from the recording i took this from). but then again the little modulation section lands nicely in aminor so starting in b facilitates that.

  • heard this song the first time in the movie the flight of the phönix

    wonderfull song..great

    thank you for the music

    greets

    ender

  • linda, muito linda!!!!!

  • Loved it. This song is soooo sweet. I played it on the piano for my friend's wedding. I also like Ornella Vanoni singing it. Sometimes Paoli and Vanoni used to perform it together..great duo! well done, bravo!

  • Lovely. You know I ahve found that there are some hands that just cannot make these chords. That would be mine...although I can fake though many songs and use the entire fretboard, the fingers will not stretch press and move like other hands do. Anyway, I also found this song from looking up Billy Wilder about five minutes ago...and here I am. Wonderful.

  • yeah, Billy Wilder.... He just didn't make any crappy films, did he? I'm on a mission to see everything he was associated with (screenplay, direction etc). one brilliant and inspiring fella.

  • This will sound stupid to you sir, but I love this song, and because I can't read music, I would like to ask you if there is any way that I could get the TAB for it through you. I gave you 5 stars and subscribed to your channel.

PS: Avanti kicked ass. Julie Mills has a great rack!

  • OH this delights me to hear it INSTRUMENTAL - I was introduced to this fantastic song by -well- a horror movie - a lovely Italian actress sings it (Monica Mancini did the voice over), and I always thought how nice this would be strictly instrumental. I don't suppose you are familiar with this movie? Many guests dancing to this song get violently CUT IN HALF very suddenly - it is called "Ghost Shop," and is worth a peek JUST to see the stunning Francesca Rettondini mouthing it (pre-carnage!)

  • Ghost Shop? or Ship?

  • OH I AM AN IDIOT!! I loathe typos, hate hate hate them! A Thousand Pardons, I am usually NOT that careless. "Ghost SHIP", yes, SHIP. YouTube it, and you will see the Bewitching Francesca and her Wicked Bust singing the song. !)

  • There is also a delightfully ODD version of it, a 1965 Italian Variety Show singalong, with 8 or 9 people around a piano trading the lyrics around. Gino Pauli is at the piano, looking antsy. If I knew how to imbed a YouTube link within a post here, I would - try "Pauli/Senza Fine" perhaps, it is odd and entertaining, Fabrizio Ferretti, the "Frankie Avalon" of that era, is amongst them - so if you YouTubed HIM it may come up as well. (I hope this post was error free!)

  • Hello, crashingcrockery. I felt I had to answer your comment. I'm from Italy and I know what you're talking about. The name of the singer is GINO PAOLI and not pauli.

Forgive me for my intrusion. I was watching and listening to this channel's owner. He is a great guitarist and I see he has also a certain interest in italian music.

Funny that you heard about this song from a questionable movie like "Ghost Ship".

    Cheers

    Van

  • Thank you for the correction! I appreciate it! Indeed, "Ghost Ship" is where a lot of younger people and even teens have latched onto this wonderful song! Though not young, and a long time collector of Italian and American cocktail music records, this is where I first heard it too! Now I can't live without it, and must hear every recording of it! Paoli's is one of my favorites, as I believe he wrote it?

  • By the way, I checked out the clip of Francesca singing it. Yes, she is one beautiful creature. Never saw the movie. Is it worth watching?

  • Oh good heavens no. I love it, but largely for the opening, the luxury and glamour, the 3 minute HORROR that immediately follows Fran's Senza Fine, & the rest of it is fun but only to a small minority. Being in theater, I love the sets of the ruined (haunted) ship as seen some 40 years later, when the abandoned liner is found - the decay, rust and ruin, etc. (INCLUDING the Lady in Red!), but I don't think anyone should really...see...it (much as I like it). Monica Mancini did the voiceover.

  • Perfect. Very beautiful version of this fabulous song. Do you know the movie "Avanti, Avanti" it´s in?

    Jochen

  • UNA BELLEZZA INCREDEIBILE!

  • absolutely beautiful. I think I take up guitar! I could listen to your rendition of this masterpiece all day. lovely, wonderful, inspiring.

  • wow asombrozo !!!!!!1

  • Grazie!

even if the vid must be shorter than 10' ;)

  • wow! I love this song very well played sir, thanks for share

  • You hit all the right notes in this version too. I can even hear the accordion lines. Well done. Yeah, I love Paolo and Gina too...

  • nice one!! so glad to notice that you appreciate the "GOOD" italian music..i saw Mina in your favourite's :) !!..but this is not a surprise to me! such a musician, could never have bad tastes in music!!

  • thanks. yeah, i discovered Mina just a few weeks ago when i posted a version of "Ebb Tide" and a video of her singing it showed up under "related videos". Now I can't stop listening to and watching her. What a babe! and such an amazing voice. Seemingly endless youtube clips of her as well.

  • you look like my pep-pep. lol

  • I met this beautiful song by an add for a hair shampoo !!!! and I love it. I don't speak italian, but really love to get the lyrics.

  • gran chitarrista, complimenti

    Un saludo desde España.

  • I saw the movie "My Life without Me" & I just can't get this song out of my head! I loved your version of it. Is there anywhere I can download it so I can use as a ring tone?

  • I like this one such a peaceful rhytm and melody.

  • First heard this on Flight of The Phoenix when I was 7, now at 54 ,it still haunts Me...You are truly blessed to have such talent!

  • simply marvelous

  • Meravigliosa interpretazione!

  • Warm, sensual and beautiful cover. I know that you don't write the tablatures of your music, that's a real miss for all guitarists. If u ever will do or someone will do it for you, please let me know where to find the tabs of this Piece (note the first capital).

    BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I envy you soooo much!!! WIsh I were as talented as you are, you're so blessed!! Keep those beautiful tunes running from your magic fingers... Bravissimo!!! Mi piace molto... Oh btw this song was also one of the OST of the film Mi Vida Sin Mi (My Life without me), very touching... Thank you for sharing with us :)

  • From Italy........ :

    BEAUTIFUL.....I love your music.... Tank

    Marcello

  • great version

    my fie without me soundtrack

  • This song was also featured in the movie "Ghost Ship", where the version sung by Henry Mancini's daughter (I forget her name)was lip-synched to by an actress in the opening. Also a studio band called "Brass Ring" made a version of this in the 1960s that hit the top 10. Hauntingly beautiful, and you captured it well. Now favorited.

  • thanks. it's a very popular tune which somehow escaped me all these years.

  • Ah yes- Monica Mancini- and the Lady in the Red Dress (with the wicked bust) is Francesca Rettondini and looks FABULOUS. But ONLY LIKE THAT. At least to me. In real life, she is...okay. But as Francesca In the Red Dress, oh my...

  • Bravo... senza fine...

  • This such a hauntingly beautiful song I have just discovered Senza Fine sung by Peggy Lee in 1964 on a CD "Jazz chillout 111"that I already own...translated to English the song means so much more to me!!

Would love to know what Album Dean Martin originally sang this on??? If any one can help I would be indebted to you.

In the meantime time "Troubleclef"I have listened to your version over and over and would love to buy a CD of your music?? Is that possible.

    Cheers from Australia

  • Thanks. gotta love that Peggy Lee. Didn't know Deano sang it (for that matter didn't know Peggy Lee sang it either). Turns out to be a much more popular song than I was aware of when I recorded it.

If I ever have a cd I'll promote it through my channel, for sure.

    thank again

  • Truly great. I have loved Connie Francis since I can remember. Senza Fine always brings joy to my heart. Thank you Sir for this.

  • Sir i wish i could play that guitar like u

  • So Soothing on a Sunday evening in Western Australia....Your interpretaion of Gino's song is so wonderful..parred down to just the strings!!

I first heard the song when it was used for a marvellous movie called My Life Without Me, and bought two CD's featuring Gino at various stages of his career playing and singing this beautiful "Senza Fine".

Your sublime guitar version has just been sent to my husband who works in Angola & he will enjoy this while dreaming of home.

    Thank You very much

  • thanks so much. glad you liked it.

  • Bravo!! I loved the film too. Avanti tuttu quanti! I think know the reason I love Richard Rogers' showtunes so much—he often composed in waltz tempo. Muito bonito como sempre. Obrigada!

  • thanks. that movie is so great. at first I didn't think i was going to like it. Jack Lemmon's character is so nasty and mean. but the whole thing really grew on me. I guess you can't go wrong with a Billy Wilder film.

  • I thought I posted a rather lengthy complimentary message but it never showed..don't know why..any how the melody captured me at age 12 when I first heard it as the love song in the original Flight of the Phoenix nearly forty years ago now..remains unmatched..your rendition captured the essence of it all. I play guitar and so was left awed at your masterful chord selection...over and over...I'll be watching this for a long while and trying to copy you I admit..A topnotch performance...

  • Wow! Five Stars....I too fell in love with this melody after hearing it as the love theme of the original Flight of the Phoenix over 40 yrs ago...You have provided the single best solo rendition of this song that I have ever heard....I play guitar and could only marvel at the intricacies of your chord selection...I will bookmark your performance and believe me will try and copy you....I hope you can derive some sense of accomplishment from us recognizing that you are a consummate musician....

  • Amigo, I have loved this song since I "discovered" it, when I was like 12.. You really play it beautifully, made me cry!!! Thanks and God bless your hands!

  • thank you. glad you liked.

  • Thank you for your beautiful music!

  • I think you are a professional musician! Aren't you?

  • no, just a hobby

  • Bravo! For this and every your arrangement.

  • bravissimo.....i wish i could play like you....one day maybe

  • bellissima suonata! complimenti!

  • Beautiful, fantastic!! a five from me!!

  • What a beautiful tune that is. Thank you.

  • i agree. you're welcome

  • Beautiful.

Btw what happened to your bohemian rhapsody clip?

  • The maestro strikes again. Just gorgeous, as ususal. I am obsessed with all of this music now.

One request; How about some Peter Gabriel solo stuff?

  • thanks. I like a lot of PG's stuff. Haven't really come across something that i think will work. I noodled with "mercy st" and i think "san jacinto" might be cool but haven't gone any further than that.

  • Bravoo! magnifique! I like this song! it's so beaufitul! I enjoy it. 5 stars!

  • Waltz me around one more time, Tony.

    thanks so much

  • Gino Paoli composed this song (among many others which became legendary for those in love). He teamed up with another singer, Ornella Vanoni in life and in art. The two made beautiful music together. And your rendition of Senza Fine is very elegant, gentle, intimate... thank you :-) G*

  • thanks so much. i have Ornella's album in which she collaborated with Vinicius de Moraes and Toquinho. I didn't know she was this composer's significant other. thanks.

  • grazie per questa bela canzone!

  • hey trouble, this jovial song is also featured in another film by a catalan independent filmmaker, "My Life without Me". A precious film that everyone should also see: watch?v=jyGlkWsn-OY

5 stars for this "Senza Fine".

  • thanks for the recommendation. cheers

  • bravissimo! grazie per l'omaggio ad un cantautore della mia terra! Che ne pensi di suonare qualcosa di Nick Drake? Te ne sarei molto grato. un caro saluto da chi ti apprezza molto

  • thanks. mille grazie (sorry don't know the spelling).

i've played some Nick Drake stuff before but it sort of suffers without vocals which i can't do justice to. but i'd still like to do some as instrumentals or karaokes.

  • Dear Troubleclef,

always an authentic pleasure to listen to.

it really helps slowing down at the end of the day...

    amazing, as usual.

    cheers

    alberto

  • Bravo, I like it very much! What a lovely song. Have a nice day, Bernd!

  • perfect, what strings are these?

  • thanks. they're just d'addario normal tension pro arte's

  • Wow!

  • Wow that's beautiful, all you need is a white tuxedo and you could play that in a hotel lobby! Are you a classically trained guitarist?

  • thanks. yes, you can see some of my more 'classical' things in my channel by clicking on 'playlists'
