  • This is like a rally special stage, and i have seen bigger gaps on the finish line between top flight WRC drivers than there was here. Fair enough the mini lost on a course more suited to it.. but you have to admit the price gap is considerable.

  • Deathsquad :D

  • the Porsche is a luxury item.

the mini is an every day driver. and probably one of the ugliest ones on the market right now i might add. right under the new fiat in ugliness.

  • loosing 2 seconds on such a short lap, is realy a lot in racing terms.

  • @jellycracker - I agree, but MINI never believed the Cooper S would actually 'beat' the 911. This was actually a test of how seriously a brand takes themselves, so in that regard MINI won and Porsche lost..

  • @CitizenSlide not sure what you mean... Are you saying Porsche aren't taking them self seriously? The guy talking in favour for Miny says they are all in it for fun, how is that serious? Porsche won on all accounts.

  • @jellycracker - If you follow the full story, MINI US' president Jim McD challenged Porsche US President to a race - it was clearly a marketing stunt, but Porsche didn't 'get' the joke and refused to play along, so the game was played without them. MINI earned significant amounts of kudos with their fans, Porsche were left wrong-footed and shown to lack a sense of humour, whilst MINI achieved their goals (lots of social discussions about their brand).

  • @CitizenSlide I did follow the whole story... Mimi made a fool of them self’s, and aren't even large enough to admit defeat. Porsche took them as seriously as they needed to, in order to beat them. It's hard to win with a losing hand, Mini bluffed, and lost. Amazing you Mini fans refuse to admit it. I have respect for Mini, but I don't see why you so eagerly try to put Porsche down, in order to praise Mini. Porsche has no need for such dirty tricks.

  • @jellycracker - why would you assume I'm a MINI fan? We reviewed the campaign as a case study, monitored user sentiments and performed a review of the value of the earned media generated by MINI - they clearly gained significantly from the whole stunt. I was embarassed for Porsche - and I say that having owned more than a dozen Porsche's myself - they should have laughed with MINI, played along with the banter and treated it in the spirit it was intended. Porsche can be fun too

  • @CitizenSlide If people will let themselves be manipulated by a media stunt like this, then let it be so. But for the rest of us, who actually think for ourselves, clearly sees that it’s ludicrous to race with a 911 S. A Boxter would have been plenty to beat the Mini, even a 968 perhaps even the 944 would have done the job. True racing credit is earned on the racetrack, not via manipulating media stunts. As far as I’m concerned, Mini made a fool of them selves.

  • @jellycracker - and that was the WHOLE point of the campaign. MINI's are for people who don't take themselves too seriously, don't mind making a fool of themselves but underneath that comic exterior is a car which is capable of taking a swipe at a true sportscar - losing and still walking away with a smile on its face. I've also owned a few MINI's myself (Cooper S & JCW Works) and would often choose to use our MINI (over our Porsche) for this very reason..

  • @CitizenSlide Prehaps you are the type of person who prefer to lose with a smile on your face, I prefer to win, that's why I'll go with Porsche.

  • @CitizenSlide im with you there!

I have no problem with being beaten by more expensive cars, what I like is the look of surprise on their face when they actually have to earn a victory against such a small car.

  • buy a mini cooper s jcw for 30k and then spend the 40k left that it would take to buy the Porsche and the mini would win. Shit put 10k into the mini it would win and you would still have 30k left over to buy something else like a down payment on a house and a fucking 60 inch 3D TV!

  • i think the point was you could come pretty close to a porsche at a fraction of the cost, but all said an done you're buying a fraction of the porsche.

  • @ting280

Welll they did challenge Porshce to a competition. In competition terms Mini still lost no matter what they were trying to prove. If this course was more technical and had more turns then the Mini would have won. Something like an autox course where driver skill matters

  • @apexi957 nah i don't really think so... reason being is that the porsche is rr so the handling is better, plus there's more power on tap... granted the mini is a lot lighter and has some pep on its own, plus less turning radius... with mods and an auto x driver the mini might have closed the gap but won? dunno... plus the porsche driver didn't take that turn properly at 4:22, if he did the gap would've been like 3.5-4 sec

  • Im watching this THIS IS COMPLETELY ASSININE! Why is this even happening...good race??!! Oh look porsche won NO SHIT SHERLOCK...In the end it dawns on us that some guy at mini said hey lets say how much each second cost....Stupid. Plus Lotus is way cooler anyway...

  • 38k for each second please. That is just the first lap. In a real race it would go like this in favor of Porsche:

    1st lap - 2 second lead

    2nd - 4 second lead

    3rd - 6 second lead

    4th - 8 second lead

    5th - 10 second lead

and so on.... you get the picture. The mini is just a 20000 car.

  • 2 seconds is HUGE on a track specially designed in the Minis favor. What was the point here? Maybe next time you wanna run your mouth on a world class sportscar don't bring a FWD shitbox to the fight. Where exactly would you see a course like this in the real world? a Neighborhood? Put them on the big track, the porsche will ruin this POS MINI!

  • It's funny how all of you people who post slam the mini. For a ~$20000 car I think it did an exceptional job against a world class auto.

  • hahaha

"we don't want to go fast...we just want to go around turns..slowly"

    HAHAHAH - MINI FAIL!

  • wtf is Joe Rogan doing here....

  • Typical. Even though Porsche obliges to do this ridiculous race with Mini and kicks Mini's ass, as everyone knew, the video ends with "yeah, but that's $38,000 a second." Look Mini, you wanted this, you got your clock cleaned, admit defeat, and STFU.

  • Not safe in a stock car. Come on. "Someone asked why we aren't using the big course... Not safe to go through 70, 80, 90 mph corners..." Be a man, people go to track days in stock cars all day long.

  • MINI should just shut the fuck up after a huge loss

  • They should have run the big track. Mini just made an excuse. Many magazines run that track in bone stock press cars, including mini's and porsches.

  • "it´s gonna be fun the only thing i can say it´s gonna be fun" what an asshole

  • Joe Rogan is such a loser,
