my rig sounds almost exactly like justin chancellors. I have a warick corvette std 4 string. Drop d, warwick A D and G strings, i switched the low E for an ernie ball super slinky.(gives more of a punch) and if you have a warwick bass youll know what i mean by this, you want the bass nob to click halfway, and the treble about 8/10 of the way up. I also have effects for fuzz and overdrive on the high notes. you'll want to use a pick. this should help anyone who wants to make a good tool bassCover

@31rS3RP3N7 Its a hard question really. The bass itself has so much to do with the overall tone. I brought up the lows and treble and kept the mids down on the amps EQ but boosted them on my bass.

I'm not quite sure why people are so big on the Wal simply because that's what Justin uses. Supposedly the Wal has good midrange response, but honestly, with a good bass and EQ, you can dial in that midrange tone pretty closely anyway, so going to the trouble and money of finding a Wal is pretty superfluous if you aren't a collector or something. Earnie Ball, Fender, Ibanez, Warwick, Schecter, etc. All of those will get you this tone with the right EQ settings if you get a decent model bass.

Very true - in fact JC used to play a Musicman Stingray, I saw him play one on the Aenima tour back in the day. But that pickstyle grind is a big part of the signature Tool bass tone - Stingrays are better suited to fingerstyle IMO - it wasn't the exact sound they were after. What's great about 7Sloth's covers is that he does his own thing, not carbon copy bass karaoke with everything tabbed out and all the right effects blah blah and he doesn't give a fuck either.
