mr2 was definitely changing early in my opinion.

Not sure about turbo but max torque on mr2 na is 4800ish - sounded like it was shifting at 4000ish max. The butterfly valves in the air intake don't open until 5000 so that's way early to shift.

Perhaps turbo is different power band and intake dynamics but I'm guessing not...

Saving petrol? Scared of blowing turbo?

I reckon the Ferrari was playing nice to some extent. He/she was testing the mr2 but not going all out.

sloyota is partially correct. An NA MR2 is gear limited at 140mph while a Turbo MR2 is gear limited at 160MPH. You don't really need to do any tranny work to go faster, you just need to raise the redline, but you also need more power to trap a higher speed.

Okay buddy, let see this engine dyno of yours proving that you made 308BHP. I can't believe you went through all the trouble in uninstalling your engine and dynoing it at the output shaft. Assuming a 20% lose in drivetrain you got 246.4 RWHP. Wow that's a lot, but I'm sure I'm making the same power as you here buddy. Here's a break down for you.

FWHP = Front Wheel HP

RWHP = Rear Wheel HP

BHP = Brake HP

I actually achieve an accurate figure of 243whp, so you're not far off with your 20% tranny estimate. FWHP is often known as flywheel bhp. But I understand why it can be understood as front-wheel. I'm not laying into you buddy, I was just returning the tone you used in your original reply.

20% is a fair loss pal, 4 wheel drives such as evo's and scooby's loose upto 26% depending on overall set-up. Transmission and inertia are always missed in tuning a car but is very imprtant.

I'm a fan of Ferraris and it's obvious the F355 is revving through its whole powerband. C'mon people the F355 is great but its not exactly lightning fast. A mildly tuned Mr2 Turbo rev3+ at around 330bhp will stay with it. And thats exactly what happened in the latter part of the vid where both had even starts. Silly Ferrari arselicking fanboys take your blinkers off.

The SW20 MR2 is an excellent platform for tuning, and the 3sgte is a very solid motor. Ask T88MR2liter, he races with 650-680whp, although the car is capable of ~700. And as far as handling, search for Berk Technology MR2 time attack videos here on YouTube. Ferrari 355 = 380 HP, 8500 RPM redline, usually upwards of $100,000 for a clean example. I'd bet the MR2 was built for less than the cost of almost ANY Ferrari, and to say tuning an MR2 is a waste of money is ignorant.
