  • I loved that movie.

  • 2:11 onwards used to scare me shitless

  • ratigan's got swag

  • Let's just hope this movie airs on Disney Channel again real soon.

  • @TeamRocket2010 Doubtful, that channel has become way to girl oriented. Better chance of this airing on Disney XD I think. It's more of a boy's movie.

  • Hahaha, oh, how I love this movie. One of my favorite movies, especialy since Ratigan's one of my favorite disney villains haha XD. ''Oh, Ratigan! Oh, Ratigan!'' Love that song hehe X)

  • One of my favorite disney films ^^.

  • the great mouse detective was always my favorite disney movie as a kid and ratigain was my favorite villein and there is no disney villein as heatless as him and the best voice and pronely number 1 reason why i like him is because of Vincent Price ratigain does a lot of laughing and why no get the guy famous for the best evil laugh of all time XD. and on that note Basil is my fav disney hero XP

  • "Ooooooh, you want to light the looooad..."

LOL!! Oh, that line kills me every time. <3

  • @thebigall21 The voice if Fidget (the little bat) was provided by Candy Cardido who also voiced the pig minion in Sleeping Beauty, the alligator announcer From Robin Hood, and the Big Chief from Peter Pan.

  • Who voices the little black bat on 6:20?

  • I knew why Ratigan did a huge hiccup at 1:56, it's because Bartholomew said, "rat" on 1:54. And then Bartholomew got eaten by the giant cat.

  • Did the other guy die with him?

  • @MovieguruThe No. That would have made this movie unwatchably sad.

  • Oh Vincent Price, how you always prove your the best actor of the 20th century.

  • zomg its vincent price! and at 2:04 and several other times, is that Bill the Lizard from Alice in Wonderland??

  • I can't help but love this hilarious villain! And DAT VOICE. *melts*

  • He doesn't like being a rat? Ok his new name is mousigan!!

  • @TheMuramasa16 Good idea!

    -Professor "Mousigan"

  • This rat is among the most underrated Disney Villains. Probably in the same league as Prince John, right?

  • Seeing as how Basil is supposed to be some sort of Sherlock Holmes parody, it's no surprize he's a bit of a smartass.

  • That's the cleanest we'll ever see the Thames at 6:31...

  • You know I've noticed they put five fingers on Ratigan.

  • @watchensee Four actually, the thumb is not a finger.

  • @mercedesman93 Very true as we have four fingers & a thumb! :)

  • Ratigan would've made a great Kingdom Hearts villain. Imagine fighting him in the clock tower.

  • I wonder if the Disney staff gave Vincent Price an actual cape so he could be even more hammy.

  • So misleading like in Charlette's Web how they made Templeton. So unlike rats! Sorry people it's just that I've seen the goodside of rats, once you know the truth about rats you'll never look at them the same. Go movies though! :)

  • @watchensee Well to be fair we never see what any other rats are like in the movie...

  • Absolutely one of the top.

  • 0:46 he looks like Charlie Sheen

  • 0:24-0:25 my life in 7 words

  • Comment removed

  • In reality Ratigan should've been a good guy. Rats are very personable, affectionate, and they seek companionship. I had two pet rats and out of the rodents they're the nicest.

  • @watchensee True, but since when does Disney model animal characters after how the real animals behave? Look at all the evil wolves, stupid hyenas, energetic cats, cruel snakes, etc.

  • @mcmptn Yes very true! However when Walt Disney was alive he did show reality. I still say Ratigan should've been the hero! :)

  • @watchensee Glad to hear that Walt Disney did research before making his movies, even if his company doesn't anymore.

Why not? A lot of people like Ratigan a lot more than Basil. Ratigan would have made a cool hero. :)

  • @mcmptn Yeah Walt Disney had a way of showing reality he didn't push it in your face, but he showed it. Like in Bambi he showed how the animals of the forest have it with man, they even show a bird being shot. Dumbo is another one. A lot of people prefer Ratigan really? I thought Basil was kind of a Jerk to the little girl. Ratigan would've been a sweet swoshbuckling knight if he'd been the good guy! :)

  • @watchensee Yep. Basil has no social skills. Ratigan, on the other hand, has a sort of charm and witty lines (that are actually rather hilarious), so even though he's the villain, people like him better. (He also has one awesome theme song.) If Ratigan were the good guy, he would have been wonderful. That personality befitting a gentleman, sharp mind, good retorts, and fearless nature would have made him a great knight. Maybe even a prince or something.

  • @mcmptn Well one thing is for sure if Basil had been the badguy he would have been hated from the inside-out! I didn't like Basil's character when I first saw this, a bit of a Smartass! }:P

  • @watchensee I don't mind him being a bit of a smartmouth, but his "better than you" attitude and frequent moments of self pity aren't that impressive. He has the perfect temperment (sp?) to be the villain. He could very easily be someone that everyone loves to hate (as is the case with most villains).

  • @mcmptn Ha that's probably why he has too be the good guy. It's all that Basil has going for him! Ratigan has everything else charm, humor, and maybe a little sexy. =D

  • @watchensee Right. Basil would be the better villain: "Why do I have this bell? It's elementary, my dear Dawson. Your constant vexation has driven me to take drastic measures!" (Basil holds up the bell and rings it; the cat eats Dawson. Ratigan eventually apprehends Basil, and no one has any pity. Olivia becomes like the niece Ratigan never had. All we have to do now is find a female rat so the charming hero can "get the girl.") =D

  • @mcmptn A lady rat would be very nice! However I think if he were the hero every lady mouse in mousedom would be dying to get him. You think he's big, strong, well built, charming, and a little sexy. He would probably have to hide most of the time, because both female mice & rats would be chasing him like crazy. I like the idea that Olivia & her Father would become family to him! =)

  • @watchensee That's true. If he wanted to get married, he would have to disguise himself and found a female rodent who loved him for what she thought he was: just an everyday citizen of mousedom. Then once he was sure she loved him for the right reasons and he loved her too, he would reveal his true identity: the muscular, intelligant, sophisticated Ratigan! (I imagine she would then swoon into his arms and think herself very fortunate, and he'd devote the rest of his life to her happiness.)

  • @mcmptn Ah yes he would be quite the romantic if he weren't evil! Every girl rat & mouse's dream, a white knight.

  • @watchensee I wonder what his children would be like (if Ratigan were the hero we picture and he married one of those beautiful ladies). In that case though, I suppose evil Basil would eventually try to get rid of Ratigan's children (as a sort of revenge or something), and charming, "white knight" Ratigan would have to come to the rescue. :D

  • @mcmptn I didn't think about him having children....in that case lets hope a lady rat would win his heart, because for a lady mouse to have baby a little bigger than her body that would be a real strain on her. However if he did get a lady mouse his child would be a rouse! =)

  • @watchensee Yeah. Let's hope for a lady rat. Especially since rats and mice aren't known to have little "rouses." If he got a lady mouse, he'd have to adopt a child. He could fall in love with a lady mouse who doesn't really love him back: she just pretends to so she can be evil. A casual friend lady rat eventually helps him realize his error, and he marries her instead after they fall in love. Basil gets married to the evil lady mouse.

  • @mcmptn Yeah Basil, and the evil lady mouse would be perffect together! Although Ratigan could do both adopt, and have birth babies with the nice lady rat. They could raise the adopted mouse babies, and birth rat babies! :)

  • @watchensee Good point... :) I've got it! The evil lady mouse and Basil have mouse babies. Prof. and Mrs. Ratigan have rat babies. Mr. and Mrs. Basil try to destroy the rat babies, Ratigan saves the day and puts the evil mice and jail. To keep the mouse babies from going to the orphanage (since their parents are in prison) or being raised to be cruel by their parents' family members, the Ratigans adopt the little mice. The rat and mice children grow up together as close siblings. :)

  • @mcmptn And yes I can see evil Basil trying to destroy Ratigan's family.

  • Awesome villain, i always liked his character since i was 5 when i saw the movie 4 times in theaters in it's original release and even in it's re-issue at 10. He's one of my top 10 villains. Vincent Price was great as always, this is no exception.

  • Doesn't that cat chew its food?!

  • (holds up a bell and rings it)

(evil laughter) Now all of you are going to be eaten!

(PS: I'd never dream of actually threatening anyone, so I trust you all see this comment as the joke it is intended to be. No one take it personally, okay?)

  • I love you Vincent Price

  • Ratigan is the best villain to me.

  • Thumbs up if you already knew that Ratigan's first name is Padraic!

  • I just love Vincent Price

  • I wish Ratigan would step back from the ledge, you know. Padraic could cut ties with all the lies that he's been living in. And if Third Eye Blind wants to kill the professor, he'd be Jason Kreis!

  • I LOVE IT WHEN I'M NASTY!!!!

  • Ratigan makes evil look fun XD I always liked this fuzzy villain

  • Waiting for Ratigan to be in a Kingdom Hearts game... Please.

  • @Kryanwan8 I hope they don't do that. His voice actor Vincent Price died a good while back. He's the ONLY voice for Ratigan.

  • @Kryanwan8

Just not the same without Vincent Price...

  • professor ratigan is underrated

  • I'm a bit confused... when Basil rang that bell, was it supposed to set off the clock chime prematurely, or just to distract Ratigan?

  • @Swinger2006 Personally I think it was just a distraction, and to show how smooth Basil is. He rang the bell at the right moment for dramatic effect. Note that when Ratigan rang the bell, somebody else was going to die- so Basil rang it saying he was going to defeat him.

  • please tell me someone else besides me was terrified of ratigan near the ending when they were a child?

  • @BordersOfInsanity You're definitely not alone! I used to not want to watch this movie because of this scene when I was little.

  • @PadawanLinea I must like to punish myself since I watched the movie again and again anyway lol. still, nothing really beats classic Disney.

  • @BordersOfInsanity *raises hand*

  • @BordersOfInsanity Believe me, it took me years to get over his transformation.

  • @BordersOfInsanity After he snaps at around 7:52, I was shitting myself. As a kid, of course *shifty eyes*.

  • @VVoodzy 8:12 is the worst because he doesn't really look like himself there.

  • calling him a rat brings him humiliation and discomfort

  • @NickFury182 BWA HAHA. =)

  • I wish my kitty was that size and answered to a bell. :)

  • Can you imagine how intimidating Ratigan would be if he were a human? He'd make Frollo, Shan Yu, and Jafar quite tame by comparison.

  • @Swinger2006 Now try to imagine him being a REAL human instead of a cartoon character.

  • @mcmptn *shudder*

  • @Swinger2006 Exactly!

  • @Swinger2006 I think he would be more intimidating if we were mice. Scary in personality in addition to the fact he could tear your head off. His rat-ness is part of his character.

  • i love how ratigan has tried to convince everyone and himself that he is a mouse but when he believes Basil might win reverts to his primal rat side to defeat him. he shows his true colors

  • this movie is soooooooo nostalgic. no wonder the NC put ratigan as 6th best disney villian. this might have just been my fav disney movie

  • @toSTONEiGO The Critic actually ranked Ratigan as 7. but I do agree with you about the movie being nostalgic.

  • @Dinospikester OH MY GOD IM SO SORRY!!! *hangs himself*. peace brah.

  • @toSTONEiGO Dude no need to be sorry. Lol.

  • It doesn't matter if the movie isn't a musical, the villain will sing any dang way because that's what he does.

  • To quote the nostalgia critic:

Ratigan is "so evil that his picture on the wall actually smiles when you mention his name...NOW THAT'S A BADDIE!!!"

  • 0:36 is that the lizard from alice in wonder land

  • @breerex123 Yep, it's Bill the lizard.

  • That is the scariest unveiling of a fat fuzzy kitty with a blue bow in its fur that I have ever seen in my entire life.

  • Professor Ratigan...just another fine example of a Disney Villian screwed by gravity

  • This is the only villain that I just cheered when he was done.

  • @00:37 Bill the Lizard?

  • I love his bat lol!

  • I'm a big classics fan of Vincent Price. He's the best horror voice actor. I like Ratigan.

  • I'm never calling him Ratigan again. Let's say his first name is Padraic. And his mother was a mouse. All hail King Padraic! Will Third Eye Blind revive Padraic Ratigan as Jason Kreis? Stay tuned for the epic fail of the week?

  • Do Barbose next.

  • Olivia is really brave!

  • isn't that bill from alice in wonderland at 0:36

  • This was the first Disney movie too use a 3D animated scene

  • @narutofano03 Actually, the first was The Black Cauldron, but that movie didn't do to well at the box office because everyone was like "OMG! A PG RATED DISNEY MOVIE?!?!? HOW HORRID!!!!" Because back then there was no pg-13

  • @narutofano03 actually, that was the Black Cauldron, released 1 year earlier. :P

  • 8:42 I friggin' love how evil he sounds there. Vincent Price is pretty much the standard for pure vocal villainy.

  • Ratigan's sexy.

  • Crud sorry, hit send on my iPad too soon. Anyway, I just have to say, Vincent Price ROCKS!!

  • "Ooooooh, you want to lighten the LOAD..." One of my favorite Ratigan lines. I just love how Vincent Pricemsaid

  • Ratigan got style!

  • Just my FAVORITE disney vilains ever! "Ratigan" This is my childhood is one name! You can't know!

  • Padraic Ratigan - the (Mouse-version) Napoleon of Crime. He is erudite, refined, cultured, jovial, sophisticated and has a heart as black as coal. (Not to mention voiced by our very own Vincent Price)

His plans very nearly succeed - but ultimately, he goes from royalty to recycling.

  • Padraic Ratigan is actually soccer star Jason Kreis!!!!!

  • Ohhhh, what DELIGHTFUL depravity.... <3

  • "Basil?" As in, Basil Rathbone?

Please tell me Nigel Bruce plays his cohort.

  • 9:51 - :59 I knew it.

  • 7:27 - :29 'The' most evil move from 'Rat'igan!

  • See Ratigan is such a stereotypical villain....and I still love him, Vincent Price makes him awesome.

Great film, what a good memory from my childhood.

  • I love realistic villains from Disney and he takes the cake for me, i saw this 4 times in theaters when i was 5 in it's 86 release.

  • Ratigan he will perfect if he is in kingdom hearts lll & I think he's not going to join Maleficent group, because he's doing way, he's using heartless, take over Mousedom, & he will turn into a heartless.

  • Am I the only one who finds Ratigan kinda effeminate? ( I still love him though ) :D

  • @28canadiangirl I feel it comes from him trying too hard to be elegant and intelligent. Overcompensating because he's really just a big vicious brute in a suit.

They basically designed him for Vincent Price to just have fun.

  • @Bottery That could be true. Although it still doesn;t explain his obsession with pink and purple. XD

  • @28canadiangirl

Purple is a royal color, of course, and pink is a manly color whatareyoutalkingabout.

  • de niro of cartoons.

  • Next to Frollo's fight/death scene, this is probably the most detailed and interesting fight/death scenes I've ever seen from Disney.

  • 08:52 Best sound effect ever.

  • Ratigan...........ROCKS!!!!!!

  • Of all the Disney villains - I think Ratigan most represents evil's pride before a fall. The guy starts out as a polite gentleman (with some undertones of a barely controlled temper) before going absolutely batshit crazy.

  • 0:37 Lizard from Alice in Wonderland?

  • Professor Ratigan's laugh...

    (puts sunglasses on)

    is a Thriller.

  • Ratigan is my 9th fave Disney villain, just behind, 8: Dr.Faciliar, 7: Gaston, 6: Chernabog, 5: Frollo, 4: Hades, 3: Yzma, 2: Scar, 1: Jafar

  • Ratigan is my 9th fave Disney villain, just behind, 8: Dr.Faciliar, 7: Gaston, 6: Chernabog, 5: Frollo, 4: Hades, 2: Scar, 1: Jafar

  • hes amazing! OMG did anybody notice the lizard is the same one from Alice In Wonderland?? 8D

  • @ninjacatz10124 I titally just noticed that before I read your comment! I think that is the same one!

  • Seems like he'd of changed his name...

  • "Professor" Ratigan?Lmao what does he teach? XD

  • @Alexander82211 He's based off of Professor Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes stories. Moriarty is a Professor of Mathematics, so I assume that Ratigan's the same...?

  • @UselessRambling Disney's Ratigan is based off of Professor Padric Ratigan of the "Basil of Baker Street" novels, who is in turn indeed based off of Professor Moriarty of Sherlock Holmes. Coincidentally, Ratigan is a mouse in the novels.

  • @Sh4d0wKat Wow, I just got showed up. xD Thank you for correcting me. :)

  • @Alexander82211 Villainy? xD

  • I thought Vincent Price did an excellent job of voicing Ratigan which suits his evil personality. Back in the 80s when I was growing up, Disney villains like him did a great job at freaking me out, which is kinda what made watching classic movies so cool and fun to begin with. If they weren't so scary, how else would we know of them being villains?

  • I saw this movie in theaters when i was 5 when it came out in 86 4 times and had some stuff, too bad it never came out on video for 7 years until i was 10 when i also saw the re-issue in theaters and got it for christmas. Ratigan is my fave disney villain! my faves is him, Jafar, Frollo, Macleach, Shan-Yu. Sykes, Ursula, Maleficent, Scar and Cruella.

  • ratigans sooooooo cute! i want him as my talking pet rat! :D

  • that clock scene would make a great game boss place. i've never played KH so i wouldn't know

  • @ elvaelvirababe

Vincent Price is a classic villain. There is no one who can top him. Explains why he is the villain in almost every Edgar Allan Poe film.

  • My foot! My only foot!!!

  • Wish Daniel Day-Lewis could play him.

  • Just watched this movie again last week. Ratigan didn't scare me so much as Fidget when I was a kid. Fidget still creeps me out lol.

  • DUDE. I remember this movie. :-D I love this dude!

  • Is it so wrong that this villian scared me so much as a kid :O

  • Rat's have always made the best Movie Villains

  • Man I love it when animal characters reveal there primal side and go berserk.

  • Vincent Price was perfect for Ratigan

  • I used to crap myself as a kid when he turns into psycho rat at the end 0__0

  • Family Guy, Chris's Russian Mice

  • Why do Disney Villains always get a scary death? :D

    Scar - Eaten alive

    Shan-Yu - Explodes by a firework

    Ratigan - Falls

    Gaston - Falls

McLeach - Falls down a waterfall

Captain Hook - Gets eaten alive, i guess...

    Maleficent - Stabbed and falls

The Evil Queen - Falls and gets crushed by giant rock

    Clayton - Gets hanged

  • @jnefrh Don't forget Frollo's dark and almost child hood wrecking death - Falling off of a crumbling Gargoyle that is grinning like a devil and falling into a pit of molten rock.

  • @Themanwhofrowns That one scared the crap out of me when I was little.

  • @jnefrh Don't forget:

Frollo- Falls, crushed by a broken gargoyle, and burned.

    Dr. Facilier- Dragged to Hell.

  • damn thats one fatass kat!

  • @MrWaltDisneyClassic that's evil

  • 3:11

Man, wonder what Figdet has done to her...

  • Kippy Ratigan

  • Man... Ratigan seriously creeps me out in the clock tower scene :S

  • I ask people why they haven't heard of this movie, and they say it's most likely because it's not good. And to that I say,

1- have you SEEN the movie???

    and 2,

It's VINCENT FREAKING PRICE taking over the world in mouse (sewer rat!) form! What more could you WANT in life???

  • Ironically, Ratigan and The Horned King have the highest views, despite not being even close to being well known. :P

  • This is what happens when vincent price decidrs to try to rule the world, amazing awesomeness.

  • I got a pet rat, and named it Professor Ratigan.

  • @AdrenalineAddict610 Jolly Good!

...Just don't let him loose, please. I can't say I'm ready to have a ra- er, um... a mouse as President. Not yet, anyway.

  • 7:18 PIMP SLAP BITCH!!!

  • Holy crap. That's Dr. Warren from The Tingler. I love that movie. Ratigan is funny too. I haven't seen this movie in a while, but I remember it, and I still love it. Thank you.

  • I HAVE THE POWAH

  • I remember reading once that Vincent Price said Ratigan was his favorite role and it certainly shows in his voice acting.

  • Wait I just noticed, Ratigan is the villain with the most views out of this list of villains. Just shows that he rules!

  • @YuckeyDevil752 In the new Kingdom Hearts game Frollo is suppose to be in it cause they go to that world. Ratigan still needs to be in Kingdom Hearts though. He'd rule if he turned into a Heartless when in Big Ben.

  • 1, 2, skip a few, 50!

  • @Pikazilla Maybe Ratigan is another word for Not-a-rat
