  • What song is that at 3:50 ?

  • fast neck!

  • imho it actually sounds like mindless funk jamming. kinda nothing special or really original.

    awesome technique though.

  • Wow! I would have liked to have heard him jam without the effects.

  • I am impressed with the bass player, not the pedals.

  • so cool....

  • i totally heard voodoo child in there somewhere 1:53

  • @jmwhitebass yes you did

  • i cant fucking believe TreeHouse86 's comment makes me fucking cringe

  • floorless

  • daffy duck approves

  • without the effects, it would have sounded much better from what I felt.

  • I wonder how that sounds without the pedal...

  • that is some speed!

  • Man, sounds like my colon after I eat too much Mexican food!

  • @pennekre hahahahahhah you made my day

  • @pennekre you got a funky ass colon

  • Pedulla bass!

  • Play on Brother !

  • WOW

  • Yo @ Barathrun which related video?

  • wow

  • Frightening chops

  • who needs 87 strings!!!!!!

  • Dude all I want to do is learn how he played the chords on 0:39-0:51

  • @nwarollinna63 then watch the video "Doug Johsn slapping some chords".

Acttually it's in the related videos^^

    Peace

  • HOLY FUKING SHIT FUK

  • towards the end it would sound a hell of a lot better if 'doofus' didn't come in and play with the effects to 'better demonstrate the pedal'... should of left it as is

  • too much effect in i think!

  • I get the feeling that most of the stuff he did (with the exception of the delay riff) would sound a million times better without all the effects.

  • naabıon aq yaa sen

  • @ sirspankalot360

    thanks

  • i have been playing bass for a couple months now, but what is he doing at 2:18 when his hand playing goes up the neck?

  • @coltvids16

He is tapping the root notes on the E string with his right hand.

  • Great Doug ! ! this guy is PRO !

  • If you check out his other videos you'll find his left hand is also beastly but I agree, it doesn't seem very virtuostic - very original but not pushing any barriers

  • Flabb Flabb, 5 stars,

I'm also a bass virituose, but, not that good, hahaha

  • I believe it's an Ibanez. Ibanez at least makes similar ones. they have great fretboard versitility

  • its a pedulla

  • nice voodoo chilld

  • Slap that Bass!

  • because it's the easiest way to get funky!

  • what kind of bass is that. please respond

  • pedulla buzz

  • No, the Buzz is the fretless version. This is the Pedulla MVP.

  • Impressive!

  • he's crazy!...in a gd way...

  • I don't know of any funk song had that type of continuous playing..Funk has groove..that is just slap, pop, slap, pop and on and on

  • Ah, I just assumed you didn't like slap n' pop playing at all. Well, this is a pedal demo and not a real song, very few people would play like that continously for a whole song. As a short fill or solo on the other hand...

  • Good job!

  • the effects aren't bad, just a bit overdone, I'd think they'd sound fine if used subtly

  • yeah virtuoso ;)

  • nice playing but those pedals are annoying

  • No offense, but this video is titled: "Pedal Demo"... I mean really? What did you expect?

  • This guy gives me a headache. sam pattern in a different position. Just anoying

  • aw cmon dude

he has a really unique slap tech

  • His slap technique is a carbon copy of Kai Ekhart's

  • yeah thats what i thought

    i love garaj mahal

do you know any other projects he is in?

  • you're shit

  • Oh yeah...You can do better can't you.

That's it, hide behind the internet.

  • Did you realized I replied someone?

  • Whoops. In that case, go you!

  • cool pedalz

  • oh damn he is fricking good??

  • this is what i mean.play with sounds.

  • dude this is amazing

  • yayyy Pedulla! awesome

  • pretty nuts

  • thats some fucking funky shit! i NEED one!

  • i completely love what he does at 0:37 up until he changes the effect

  • son of b**+*h

  • Pigtronix should fire this ego-driven hot dog.

  • Too bad he can't simply play a note and let it sustain so that I can actually hear what the effect is doing.

  • the reason why he did that style is because that what he's known for. and for sure he was ask to do his own style of playing bass... coz he is showing the world that these effects can be used for what ever style you got.

    peace...

  • Thanks!

In that case I would certainly state that his style does not lend itself well to ANY effects.

All attack and no decay. I can only hear the initial "wah" and nothing else. I love the sound of the note decay on a good envelope filter. A kinda shimmering drippy sound as the note plays on.

  • Doug is a groove master my brother! He will give you nightmares!!!!!!

  • I will not argue he is really fast.

Sadly that is NOT the definition of "groove"

His technical mastery of the instrument is breathtaking but he really isn't grooving here.

If you are here at youtube I strongly urge you to look into the following: "James Jamerson"

"Meters Jungle Man" and "Larry Graham Funk Original Pt.1" --those are examples of real groove. You will likely be disappointed by how slow some are but they are actual greasy grooves, funky and in the pocket.

  • doug actually keeps better time than any drummer i've ever seen- he's not just technique - when you see him with a band he's not a wanker - he doesn't step on toes - his solo stuff is different

  • I believe you. I would suppose with a full band he is tight and solid. Trust me,I have too much respect and didn't mean as to sound if slandering this bassist. I guess I am just TOO INTIMIDATED by fast bass players! Ha!

  • Doug IS intimidating as a soloist, but when you see him as part of an actual rhythm section he actually inspires!

  • @4strings4me the only thing that gives me nightmares is his stupid pony tail. Get a haircut hippie. You suck.

  • @TreeHouse86 your a fucking dick

  • I'd have to agree. If I was the Product Manager for Pigtronix I would be asking Doug to write/play tunes that helped sell the device. Doing that would require that he compose something that fit the effect, which is what someone like Tal Wilkenfeld would have done. What's he played here, wasn't helped by the device at all, and frankly made me think he was more interested in selling his playing style, than the device.

Pigtronix guys: Hire Tal or Peter Muller, next time. You'll get more sells.

  • I certainly don't think that Doug needs the help of pigtronix to sell his playing. I think his playing in the video displays the uses of pigtronix products in a big way. I suppose they think so too, why else would they have hired him to demo the products?

  • mmmmmmmm Tal Wilkenfeld!!!!!!!

  • oh my god, thats awsom :0

  • sickness

  • Totally insane :]

  • Fuckin sick

  • 3:50 is fuckin BEAUTIFUL !

  • hes not doing anything different at 3:50, then he is for the whole video

  • lol yeah

  • Awesome!! I want one PIGTRONIX :D

  • very cool you funky pedals you got there mate.
